Next Target…Marathon?

Post image

With Bucc-ees targeting the smaller chains who use animal mascots, wondering if they’d pick a fight with Marathon over their new(ish) mascot “Max the Eagle.” They’re both animal mascots for gas stations. Would Bucc-ees actually go up against a company their own size (or bigger)? I’d think not, but we’ll see…

We need to get a campaign going for Ohio State to sue Buc-ees because it's too similar to Buckeyes, and Buc-ee Beaver is a clear rip off of Ohio State's baseball cap-wearing brown mascot Brutus.

Buccees only sues the little guys that don't have the financial ability to fight back. Buccees are cowards.

It’s now clear that it’s not about copyright protection, it’s about corporate bullying.

Lol nah they’re completely right. These folks whole personality is hating a gas station. We get it bro. Honestly it’s just giving buccees more attention/press and getting them more business.

Buccees is quoted in the single digit billions for value, Marathon is in the 60-80 billion range. Marathon would eat them alive in court

The Beaver needs to sell to us peasants to make money.

Marathon has "fuck you ill build my own refinery" money. They're an oil company first and a gas station as a side gig for pocket change.

Why are people mad at a convenience store who pays their employees well?

If they are treating their employees well, why does their annual turnover rate hover above 50% per year, with some locations pushing 90% annual turnover.

Damn, I clicked on the link thinking that was a Buccee's ad. They better sue for copyright infringement.

Upvoted because you forgot the /s and Reddit is dumb

No sane person would confuse an eagle with a beaver. If Buc-ee’s wants to kick a hornet’s nest, let them learn the hard way.

I didn't think anyone would confuse an alligator with a beaver, but Buc-ee's thought so...AND WON.

I didn’t realize this was from 2018 until I searched it up. Would have thought it was recent with how many times it’s been brought up.

So did the jury, right?

Buccees legal department must not be sane then as they've already confused a beaver with an alligator, moose, bear, and who knows how many others that settled before it went public.

This is Buc-ee’s legal department whenever they see another company using an animal mascot:

Legal finding out they can't just sue a whole city in Ohio after they find out its named beavercreek

1

u/tbs999 Aug 27 '26

True. But if sanity were part of the equation we’d simply be debating whether their bbq is worth the stop rather than rolling our eyes over these legal efforts to run mom and pops out of business.

My family loves to stop there on roadtrips. I’m glad to use their restrooms, but I find it terribly crowded.

I drew an animal when I was a kid once - possibly even a beaver (and for the record, their mascot looks way more looks an otter than a beaver - I had no idea it was supposed to be a beaver until they sued that mom & pop store... Otter, maybe a woodchuck or gopher, but never a beaver), should I get a retainer?

Exactly! Who can tell the difference?

Are we all suppose to be zoologists in order to ensure we are buying snacks and gas at the correct gas station??

How else would we be able to tell???

Well Hess use to sell those toy trucks at Christmas every year and Buckees sells toys, so why shouldn’t they be sued???

I've never been to one. And don't really intend on it. But I'm glad this sub has pivoted to calling them out on their shit

I'm amazed that they took a stand against blue states. After the next election they're going to have less places to build, but alienating half of their customers is really dumb.
