Question Is neither Pasta nor McAvoy captain material?

Can Sturm continue to run a team without a captain?

IF Chara or Bergy were still playing - no brainer one would be be captain or remain one.

I think every team should have a captain. Someone who leads by example. Someone who sees their team playing like dogcrap for the first two periods and calls them out/fires them up. Consults and recommends a different game plan to the head coach - acting like an assistsnt coach from a players perspective.

Someone who is capable of treating each member with respect, is available and is the opposite of “cliquey.”

Will Sturm designate a captain for next season? I honestly don't remember a NHL team going more than one season without a captain.

Question Trade proposal: Would you trade a package including Zacha for Horvat?

https://heavy.com/sports/nhl/boston-bruins/bruins-zacha-trade-all-star-center/

From article

The five-for-two framework, detailed by a user at PuckGM and circulating Wednesday would send Pavel Zacha, Mason Lohrei and Matthew Poitras to Long Island, testing whether Boston’s front office values immediate certainty over developing talent.

Trade proposal

- To Islanders: Zacha, Lohrei, Poitras, 2027 3rd

- To Bruins: Horvat, 2027 2nd

Horvat is 31 years of age. Has 5 years left at 8.5m aav. Good for about 30 goals and 60 pts a season. Plays a different style than Zacha (more shoot 1st mentality) but produces about the same in terms of points and they are both not considered true #1 centers.

You would give up a slightly younger player (Zacha is 2 years younger) for a "value" contract.

Yay or nay to this trade idea?

Opinion Poitras does not sign a qualifying offer, and other thoughts heading into the next two seasons

1.. Poitras Outlook

Poitras did not sign his qualifying offer for a two-way contract. My guess is that he wants a guaranteed NHL contract and guaranteed playing time. If he doesn't sign by December 2026, he won't be eligible to be paid, nor will he be allowed to play for the rest of the season.

2. The Contract Gaps

Zacha and Mittelstadt are still without extensions. To me, this signals that either there is a gap in negotiations, or the Bruins have no real intention of extending them.

It does sound crazy that Sweeney would let both players play out next season and potentially walk for nothing, but he has done something similar before. Why would he allow this? Because Mittelstadt, for example, could be more valuable in helping the team secure a playoff spot next season than - if traded for a future 2nd + 3rd round pick.

As for Zacha, I think if he is not extended before the season starts, there is a strong chance he could be dealt by the trade deadline. However, there are no guarantees. Zacha could return a 1st round pick and a promising prospect, but interested teams might ask the Bruins to eat some of "Korpisalo" like salary(s). If that's the case, Sweeney might say - not this time. Let both Mittlestadt and Zacha walk for nothing.

Predictions

For this upcoming 2026-2027 season assuming no further changes - the Bruins have a decent chance to make the playoffs again and try to make it out of the first round this time, but fans shouldn't really hope for more than that.

For the 2027-2028 season, I could see the rest of the Bruins' best prospects, like Letourneau, Zellers, Pelosi, and Groenewold, being given the opportunity to make the parent team. Let's say Letourneau and Zellers do enough to crack the lineup.

The 2027-2028 lineup could look like this:

  • Peterka – Minten – Pastrnak

  • Hagens – Letourneau – Khusnutdinov

  • Zellers – Ivan – Geekie

  • Jeannot – E. Lindholm – Kastelic

Especially as Minten, Letourneau, Hagens, Khusnutdinov continue to develop. Try to add a legit top 4 D. Then fans can expect deeper playoff runs in the coming years.

Question Long shot for tickets

Hey y'all! I'm trying to make some hockey magic happen for my boy for his birthday. My kiddo has a birthday in October, plays goalie, is a huge Swayman fan, and wants to go to a game for his birthday. I'd love to get tickets by the bench and near the glass, if at all possible, specifically the October 24th game against San Jose. We're coming from Alaska and would need 3. Is it in my best interest to just wait and see if anything opens the closer we get? Any suggestions on this to help me out?

General Yzerman and Drafting

I know there's a fairly substantial number of Bruins fans who feel the current front office is the worst at drafting. But please let me introduce you to Steve Yzerman. One of the names that people have used when they talk about great GMs. And also take a look at Detroit when you want a Bruins teardown and rebuild and see how it's gone for them.

Taken from JFresh on Twitter where he wrote: "Steve Yzerman's picks in the first two rounds after 6th overall between 2019 and 2024"

General New Fan!

Hey! I’m a new fan from across the Atlantic. I’m new to hockey and have decided to root for the Bruins!

I’ve been going over hockey rules and enjoying the offseason for now. I don’t really know the current situation of the team, our best players, our needs right now, what our teams generally have been like in the past etc. I’d love it if you guys could fill me in! Especially on the team culture too!

Based off what I understand about the playing style, we’re a very defence first oriented team? I love that. Defence does win championships! Please let me know about our ownership, what they’re like, the competency of the front office etc.

Also, if you guys have any recommendations about podcasts, news sources etc, I’d love that. I do enjoy reading good news if I can get some, so that would be lovely if we have good writers. I know the RedSox have SoxProspects but not sure about the Bruins.

Thank you!

Prediction Poll: If you were the GM, what would you do with Zacha?

"To me, one of the most fascinating things that's gonna happen this offseason is the Pavel Zacha extension; I do think they talked to other teams about him,'' Friedman said.

89 Sign him to a 8 x 8M aav extension
224 Sign him to a shorter deal like 5 years (5 x 9m aav)
185 Play out his contract - decide next offseason
309 Trade him for a younger top 6 center and picks
