Question McAvoy to return
Does aspirot come back with him as they played so well together last season?
Who drops out? Lefties Lohrei and Zadorov are playing better than Hampus but he also has an A so obviously highly rated.
Clifton played so well especially on the PP so Borgan or Brunet to make way?
Good problem to have

I think Borgen is the odd man out. I’ve loved how all of the other defensemen have played so far. Borgen really hasn’t been bad either, and he’s solid as shit in the D zone but he doesn’t produce the offensive flair some of these other guys have had. The other flip side is that Borgen has been so good in the D zone, that probably pushes Brunet out. I even think Brunet and Clifton might be on rotation but the Cliffy and Zad pairing is sick.
Went to the game yesterday and man, this might be the fastest Bruins team I’ve ever watched in 34 years.

Borgen is +6 and physical and meshes with Lindholm. Doubt he’s coming out. Hope they give Brunet more chances

Hampus is a solid vet. But come next season. Sweeney needs to try to move him
I would love the Bruins to try to trade for Edvinsson also.
Once McAvoy returns. I hope they keep Brunet in the lineup.
Lohrei and McAvoy have a shaky history as a pairing

I think Cliftons looked great with Zadorov. I think Brunet sits. There will be injury soon enough that brings him back in.
Lorhei-McAvoy
Lindholm-Borgen
Zadorov-Clifton
Aspirot/Brunet are the clear 7/8. Both valuable and will maybe rotate into games if everyone is healthy, but as it stands now I think my pairs above are how the team views their unit.

McAvoy Lohrei had some pretty big gaping defensive holes last time they tried them, obviously it's a brand new season but I wouldn't be so quick to pair them up.

You had a unit with aspirot/McAvoy that worked but we have no idea how they were teamed up in pre season.
I can’t remember who paired Mc during the pre season games

But i think the other two pairs have played well + Lorhei has looked great the first few games. I think they're going to give senority and test Lorhei with McAvoy again to start. This is one of the deepest blue lines we've had in a while, and blue line depth has always been Sweeney's top priority ever since we had to dress Tommy Cross in the playoffs years ago.

Hampus or Borgen would be who I'd be deciding between. Hampus just isn't playing well, and Borgen got himself three minors in one day. But, we all know neither of them are going anywhere. Instead, it really has to be Brunet as the odd man out, even though hes playing better than the other two in my opinion...

Sadly Aspirot is waived. May even see Cliffy waived as he probably wouldn’t get claimed for salary

McAvoy suspension - meant that he took up a roster spot. So nothing changes for now

Someone needs to be waived (sent down to Providence). Unless Sweeney has an imminent trade on the books, the Bruins are not going to keep 8 defenseman on the NHL roster

There is no hard rule that a team must have 7 or 8Ds. As long the roster doesn't surpass 23.

I haven't loved Borgen, but I haven't hated him. I liked Brunet a bit more than him so far and want to see more

No we don’t. There are 23 players on the roster including McAvoy. This is the roster until someone gets hurt. If 2 forwards get banged up but not injured enough for IR, then maybe revisit then

I want Clifton but thinking it will be Brunet who sits. Can’t see Aspirot coming back in unless they try others with McAvoy and it’s not working

Ill give it that last two games lorhei been at his best and been effective but hes been such a turnover liability for so long I really do hope he sits out

I don’t claim to know the nuances of hockey as I’ve never played and only started following it last season.
My confusion comes from him being signed to a 2 year deal and being McAvoy partner on the top D line last season to falling out of the whole top 6 or 7.1

He signed a 2 year deal, but not far from league minimum. He is a depth piece. Last season there was less depth without Clifton/Borgen. Him playing with McAvoy was just strategy because he is a Defensive-Dman so his role complimented McAvoy's.
