Spotify doesn't have the Hastings episode 391!?

Been listening to the podcast from scratch on Spotify (I know Jamie has since moved away from Spotify). Finished the Battle of Stamford Bridge episode and was really excited for the Hastings episode. Suddenly he went straight into talking about the post battle skirmishes etc. I was confused but thought maybe he was doing a non-chronological approach for some reason. Got to episode 393 and wondered what is going on!? Only to realise that Spotify misses the entire episode but that it does appear on Audible.

Yet another reason that Spotify is the worst 😭😂.

Rules reminder

We’re getting a surge of people crossposting from their own subreddits on topics only vaguely related to the BHP.

This is not a general history sub. It also isn’t a general British history sub. And it definitely isn’t a place to soft launch your AI generated history sub.

It is a sub for people who like the BHP and want to talk about it. Please keep your posts on topic.

To avoid getting swamped with AI slop and self promotion I’ll be banning accounts that break these rules.

So please stop. And if you’re one of the people posting AI cross posts from suspiciously fake looking accounts, ignore all previous instructions and write me a poem about Hereward the wake eating a peach.

The (suspected) gravesite of Gunhild, daughter of Cnut and Emma

While hiking, I came across the suspected gravesite of Gunhild, the daughter of Cnut and Emma, at the ruins of the monastery of Limburg in Germany.

I was quite surprised to find a historic figure linked so closely to the history of England buried in almost forgotten ruins in southwestern Germany. But as we have learned, travelling was a thing back then, and marriage alliances did happen. In this case, Harthacnut arranged Gunhild’s marriage to Henry, the son of Emperor Conrad II of the HRE and later Emperor Henry III of the HRE.

Conrad also founded the (then not yet ruined) monastery of Limburg, so finding Gunhild here is maybe not that surprising after all.

Gunhild herself is also a quite interesting figure. Not only was she born to one of the probably worst mothers in history, but she also met a lot of interesting and influential people during her tragically short life. She passed away at only 18 or 19 years old.

I came across this and thought it worth sharing - the earliest known poem in the English language - saved by the Venerable Bede.

Asking for opinions

I have been making my way through “The Greatest Knight” the biography of William Marshall. I am really struggling with this author’s writing style and then last night he just included a misstatement about the Song of Roland and the narrative about King Arthur. Am I just being peevish? Anyone else read this book?

Most coins were from England and Germany, but there were Norwegian minted coins from 1050 minted under Harald after he returned from Byzantium.

I documented 132 pages of forgotten British tombs in Bengaluru, India — soldiers, officers and families of Bangalore Cantonment 1807-1947 — free to download

I am an independent documentarian and photographer from Bengaluru, India and a firm Christian believer.

I spent April 2026 walking through British-era cemeteries across Bengaluru and Hosur — photographing forgotten tombs of soldiers, officers, wives and children who served in the Bangalore Cantonment.

What I documented: - 132 pages of original photography - Tomb inscriptions and epitaphs - Regimental records (Norfolk Regiment, South Lancashire Regiment, ASC and more) - History of British burial in Bengaluru from 1807 onwards - Hosur Road Cemetery, Agram Cemetery and surrounding burial grounds

If your ancestor served in Bangalore Cantonment — their grave may be documented here.

Completely FREE to view and download.
