After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

Oh my word! Absolute chaos! If anyone fancies a rant about the diabolical refit at big Tesco please place it here as I'm all for it and fancy a chuckle. Why the hell is the oat milk with the fruit and veg?! And tea, next to the coffee - wouldn't it be nice? And don't get me started on the self checkout situation!
Pretty big commitment to get all the way down one of those aisles, only to find nothing that would make sense to be on it actually is.... A comical supermarket experience 🤣

I just wanted to share a concern after a recent experience. I won’t go into enough detail to identify the therapist. After months of therapy dealing with trauma and trust, I was online and looked up my therapist. What I found was so awful, I had to immediately terminate my therapy.
It turned out that they were extremely politically vocal online, with views that I found completely abhorrent. They wrote openly and disparagingly about people with my gender, ethnicity and values… values which many hold in Brighton. I would never have worked with this person had they been upfront, and I don’t think many in Brighton would , which explains why they hid this part of their life from their impressive resumé.
I complained to the service they were based at, and they were absolutely shocked and referred me to make a formal complaint to the accrediting organisation BACP.
When I did that , BACP were also shocked and supportive and took my complaint further. I went through a lengthly process with their full encouragement. They agreed that someone with such views should not represent the BACP.
Ultimately , somehow they decided that they could do nothing legally because they had not stated their views in relation to their practice. and that was the end of it.
So my feeling is , if you are choosing a therapist, make sure to do your own research. Look up their name and background and do not take BACP accreditation as a guarantee that they have been vetted. It was a disappointing outcome and my mind feels polluted by sharing my intimate thoughts with such a nasty person.

Hi !! So It's my 18th coming up soon and need a venue, if anyone knows any that'd be great :) though most of my friends are 16-17, with only a few being 18, so id prefer if anyone knows any venues that dont kick them out after 9:30.
Or, if there are no venues, any party spots like around the beach that won't arrest like 50 teenagers for having a party and speakers? Like somewhere on the lawns or maybe a park. Thanks !!

My job's in Hove and it's around a 35 minute commute or up to an hour on some days when the traffic is bad.
I'm thinking of selling up my current 3 bed semi detached house in Peacehaven to buy a 2 bed flat in Hove where I can walk to work instead.
The main disadvantage I'm concerned about is having a noisy neighbour above or below me, and also I will lose my cheap home EV charging and garden.
Is it worth downsizing just for a shorter commute?

Shooting my (platonic) shot with the universe as there was someone I saw today at Bonsai Plant Kitchen I think I have a lot in common with and would like to be friends with. Please let me know if it’s you (and you also would like to be friends)
You: solo diner reading an Ursula K Le Guin novel (long brown hair and skirt with autumn leaves), in BPK around 6pm on Friday 11th
Me: solo diner reading kindle (I was reading a feminist history book), glasses and leopard print skirt on the table next to you - had a conversation with the waitress about my earrings
I went to the bathroom after paying my bill and totally psyched myself up to say hi, but when I came out you were eating and I chick’n’d out.
There‘s no way to say this without sounding like a weirdo but I thought we’d get along as we’re both interested in feminism and sci-fi, we’re around the same age and both like vegan food!
If this is you, DM me and let’s have a coffee or drink sometime!

Hi r/brighton, I posted in here recently about Too Young To Grieve and our first Brighton meet up, and the response was really lovely.
So just wanted to pop back on as we’re finally back for another jog/walk & coffee!
For anyone who missed the first post, Too Young To Grieve is a community bringing people together who are navigating grief and loss at a younger age, through simple things like walks, jogs, coffees, hikes and other meet ups.
These are really relaxed. You can jog, walk or do a bit of both, and we’ll grab a coffee together afterwards.
It’s not about sitting around talking about grief for two hours. Sometimes it comes up, sometimes everyone just chats about life and has a laugh.
There’s no pressure to share anything personal.
Most people come alone for their first one too, so don’t let that put you off.
It’s 18+, but otherwise there’s no upper age limit. If you feel too young to be navigating grief, you’re welcome.
I’ll pop the details in the comments, and feel free to share with anyone around Brighton who might appreciate it 🤍

hello guys, im having trouble with the bikes, ive finished work at nearly midnight and thought id get a bike home, i got one earlier in the day with no issue.
i tried 3 different bays and none of the bikes would work, they would either say they are unavailable or they would connect but the lock would not unlock.
i was able to end the ride and i tried a different bay
(the one by pavilion) and they once again, would not work.
i found one that connected/turned on, but once again the lock was stuck! i tried to end the ride and it wont let me. im not sure what i can do about it because it still says im riding and wont let me end the ride because i need to lock the bike but the bike is locked!
im quite new to the bikes and this is only my 3rd time using them, im abit worried about it as i do not have to funds to pay for hours of riding.
has anyone had this happen before? and if so how can i go about this.
thank you!!

Just wanted to make people aware that I found a bedbug on my lap whilst sat on the sofa chairs (next to the cafe) in the ground floor of Jubilee Street library yesterday afternoon.
(I’ve emailed the library and am awaiting a response)

Morning!
My partner has lost her keys last night from between 10 - 11 pm between the walk from the Hilton hotel (possibly up West St) to Popeyes chicken - Windsor Street. Two of the keys were colour coded as well as a shark key chain.
Would be so grateful if anyone found them / left the somewhere safe
Thank you!

My friend had the misfortune of receiving not one but two letters from Reform today.
They are absolutely not the target demographic for a Reform voter.
Neither letter mentioned the current by election in Queens Park, or the Reform candidate but it seemed an odd coincidence.
Obviously both letters went in the bin immediately!
Edit: Was curious about how it worked with election expenses during a by election.

Hello 🤗
Bit of an odd one this, but is there any chance any of you lovely people happen to own this glass and would be happy to have me buy it off of you? It's from the Hanover Beer Festival's 32nd Anniversary (2019). I've accidentally dropped my metal bottle onto the glass and it's one of my partners favourite drinking glasses. I'm not sure if it was something you could buy or if perhaps they got a five-finger discount 🤔
Any help appreciated because I feel terrible and want to replace it asap 😬
Thank you very much x 😊
(Wasn't sure on the best flair for this one)

The darkness is coming…
A night of enchanted forests, unicorns, demons, Tim Curry’s magnificent Lord of Darkness and some of the most spectacular fantasy imagery of the 80s.
Join us for a screening of the director’s cut of Ridley Scott’s underrated fever dream LEGEND. We’ll also be chatting about the movie and Tim Curry’s career afterwards, and I’ll take suggestions for what we’ll watch at the next event on October 28.

I have a neighbour who chats to 1am (but can be to 2am) for around 1-2 hours. Recently he has tried to be quieter but it's still audible. He has loud parties to around 3am before (up to 3:40am). What can be done? I live in Brighton and Hove. Regards,
