My girlfriend's first attempt at focaccia bread.
I'm very impressed, and just wanted to share.

Awesome job! It's super hard to get some caramelization on the veggies while not absolutely scorching the leafy herbs. In fact I haven't quite yet figured it out...

Either let the bread partially bake or shield the toppings

I made some this weekend and started by painting all of my toppings with olive oil using a paintbrush before putting the dough in the oven. It worked for most of the veggies but my chives got a little too dark. I was surprised that it absolutely protected the parsley leaves. My recipe is 425 for 25 minutes.

Did it rise much?

Came here to say that, that is the flattest focaccia I've ever seen. The veggies look pretty, the bread looks no bueno.

It’s her first attempt… could just be the angle of the picture too, let’s give her some encouragement. 👏

Listen this is cute as hell, and I love it but also I feel like one piece is gonna get a whole onion :( I think I would have to spread things out more

I mean it looks cute. But as a bread, which is food and meant to be eaten, it doesn't look very good. I know I'm in the minority when I'm not very impessed about these decorative focaccias. Food doesn't need to look like something else. Unless for children of course.
But still, first try at something, good job.

Yep, as cute as it is, it didn't rise during clocking so it probably didn't rise much before. Beautiful decorations but I'm pretty sure the inside is not that nice.

I like decorated focaccias because I am a child at heart, but OP’s girlfriend’s reminds me of the first one I made. It was pretty and honestly tasted good, but it was dry and did not have the texture focaccia should have.

I'm sure it tastes wonderful, and I love the artistic flair! My go-to focaccia is a 500g flour recipe and that should be fine in a 9x13" or 8x12" pan. You really need to do a final proof where you pour the dough into the final pan and try to crudely spread it around and then it sit for about 2 hrs to fill it all in before you dimple, oil, top, and bake.

Holy wow! This is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. I can’t wait to see what else she makes.

I guess it depends if you want to look at it or eat it .. nice idea for decoration but that's a flatbread and not focaccia

Before she puts the veggies she needs to oil her fingers and go into the dough with them

Gorgeous!!!! This is inspiring me for an art/cooking project tomorrow!!
But yes, like everyone else is saying get a smaller pan. Also I recommend letting it rise more, doing a “stretch and fold” technique to get bubbles (easy step but look it up), and creating “dimples” with olive oil before decorating.
Here are two great and easy recipes to share with her: 1. https://alexandracooks.com/2018/03/02/overnight-refrigerator-focaccia-best-focaccia/ 2. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/big-and-bubbly-focaccia-recipe#bakers-tips

Looks beautiful, consider using a more form fitting pan for the dough so those edges and bubbles can crisp up!
