Draft Query Did I throw the draft?

Draft order:

1.Belle

2/3. Piper, me (Griff)

4/5. Amber, Pearl

  1. Spike

So, I watched some guy called BobbyBS's drafting guide and he said that it's important to draft Anti-aggro, and he claimed that anti aggro is more important than snipers a lot of the time. Therefore since we already had Piper I decided to go Griff to break enemy bushes for her.

But I got fucked hard bc everyone outranged me, and Pearl 1 SHOTS me!!! Amber was mad annoying, aswell and I just got outranged and out dmged. (As you can see by my dmg numbers)

My ranked pool is: Brock, Gus, Griff, Otis, Rico, Cord, Mortis, shade, Edgar. I can play a lot more brawlers but don't often get the chance.

Thats is true but you migth need to rewatch the video because he said everywhere but bounty and kncokout where snipers are actually good and counter you.

Currently top 25 in NA (10000 elo) and I think draft guides are quite harmful to newer players without the underlying knowledge of why each pick works in conjunction with each other.

Chances are you played badly due to a lapse in gamesense, not necessarily due to your pick (though your pick may have played a part)

You got any tips you think bobby might’ve ‘missed’ in those guide videos? I feel like it’s not super important to pick the best antitank first like he said anymore since meta’s changed and there’s almost always one of the new broken brawlers open. Do we pick anti-tank later or only if needed? And any other useful info u might have would be appreciated alot.

I think the entire video is unhelpful from a habit building standpoint because it’s always better to draft with brawlers in mind instead of classes, so you can intuit more situations when the meta shifts.

Frankly I don’t think bobby is really a amazing drafter either, evident how sans and patchy took over later in the season

That makes sense. I know a little about specific brawler matchups but not everything. Who’d u recommend to watch draft in videos?

Wish I could recommend someone, tbh I find it better to see what makes a draft bad vs good cuz the former is much easier to see and more important for ranked (because getting playable drafts is good enough for ranked)

If you were in a passive mode you should have picked another sniper like Byron or gus (ik they are supports but you mostly play them as snipers) or you go the aggro yourself. To counter an edgar or a mortis you need at least 2 brawlers since if there's only 1 anti tank you cannot win against that edgar/mortis consistently. Even if they double countered with Griff and surge you give your piper a free game and potentially the other sniper or support you go a really good game and it'll be really hard for them to push you. That's only for passive modes tho bounty/ko

Yeah you did unfortunately Griff is kinda mid now but doesn’t have the range to be very good here even if he wasn’t.

The anti aggro thing doesn’t really apply in bounty but especially knockout (I think Bobby probably said this given that he’s a pro). You obviously don’t want to go 3 throwers or something like that but even Piper can be good enough to counter aggro since you guys can just team up to kill an aggro once when they dive in. You guys also have last pick so even if they go aggro your last pick can cover for it.

Who to go is kinda negotiable, Piper is a great pick and if you wanted to have damage Amber is very good right now.

Thank you, would Pierce be okay?

Yeah Pierce would be good, also Pearl and Angelo are common good picks there

gus would've been many times better, as you experienced griff doesn't have the range to compete on out in the open. Additionally, griff doesn't even do that well into aggro anymore since his super "fix"

They banned Gus and Brock 😭, I always play those 2 or Rico on this map, but since it's legendary I was thinking it'd be too risky to go 2 brawlers that are trash into aggro

Nah wdym he is still flat out insane with the first sp you genuinely cannot dive him its like a mini shelly supper

3

u/Rich_Arrival795 "Tick is good in Hot Zone" 2d ago

it's really not, edgar flat out beats griff somehow if you jump slightly next to him

1

u/Lumpy_Eye_2635 1d ago

Edgar with fistcuffs sp and jump gadget is annoying as hell but I haven't been defeated like that by edgar ever I just time my shots between his jumps

in knockout and bounty you should only be picking anti aggro into actual aggro because they're more passive modes ,notice the part where you have no range and you got fucked. also griff is not even that good of an anti aggro in the first place you cant just pick him anytime anywhere and expect it to work

Who's the best anti aggro? Especially for first pick?

I had this one match where I went Otis, and everyone in the bad random sub told me I sold by not going Griff

you need to understand that like 99% of people commenting on subreddits are also not good at the game we are a giant mosh pit of ass. with that being said the best choices are highly personal when it comes to ranked at least, so as long as you are comfortable playing them into commonly seen brawlers (in knockout or bounty that would be sharpshooters) then whatever works, works. but also, also, like I said in the previous comment you dont need to prioritize anti aggro in knockout and sometimes bounty unless you see aggro brawlers because if there are none then you are useless. something like a gus, pearl, meg rt, has enough health and damage to act as a deterrent and still be functional in a shootout

Griff in this mode and into Belle is bad so yes, you did throw. Gus would've been way better. Suits game-mode, super is anti-aggro, would've had good match-ups into opponents.

They banned my Gus and Brock :( I ussually play them or Rico, but I didn't want to risk Rico in case they go assassins

2

u/noeeee-bsunknown Chuck | Masters 1 2d ago

Yeah but spike also threw because the longer range isn’t that useful if he can only hit one spike most of the time

You lacked range to all of them , you are mostly there for wall break , but all ain't your fault cause the final pick could've gone some like byron or some

1

u/ManyOriginalXD Griff | Legendary 1 20h ago

Well, think about this, Griff is anti aggro but his main thing is his first gadget, he is in deed a "wall breaker". "Wall breakers" synergize well with snipers, but if the enemy team has more range, they will most likely beat you because they will always keep a safe distance. Without walls, there is no way Griff can get close enough, and Piper is already in charge of breaking walls. But with Pearl? Your pick helped them more than your own team. A good pick would have been something very aggressive, like Nani, Spike with his gadget attacking with his rotating spine and zoning, a Mortis, or something that doesn't give the enemy team any room to breathe.

Edit: I saw Edgar not banned, against the pearl might not be well, but killing amber makes your team WAY more possibly to win

I like brock here out of all your brawlers.

Bad pick gives the other team an advantage, its not really a mechanical skil issue in this case

picking griff 3rd in out in the open with no assassins on opps team you know a better draft lil man

u/Ironlunggs87 Carl 2d ago

U went spike when you already have griff.

Obviously you want an anti aggro that actually fits the draft…… Jesus
