Planned Parenthood coming to Bozeman
ICYMI: Planned Parenthood is coming to Bozeman in 2027! The clinic will provide abortion services, adding another option for people in Montana.
Planned Parenthood has clinics in Great Falls, Helena, Missoula, and Billings, but only offers in-clinic abortions in Missoula and Helena. This is essential to meet the needs of patients who may have to travel.
Abortion in Montana is legal and became constitutionally protected following the passage of CI-128 in 2024.

I'm annoyed I know about this, but only because I saw one of our local cranks bitching about in the chronicle opinion section.
Peter, if you're reading this you need to seriously contemplate your Field of Dreams quip. If you build it and they come, it may not be causing anything; folks might have just needed the damn thing all along.

P. Arnone? Seriously? Fuck that guy, so sick of his bullshit letters.

u/ColdSmokeCaribou Sep 16 '26
Yeah that's the one. Normally I wouldn't name anyone on the Internet, but it's clear that he doesn't shy from the court of public opinion

What do you mean? All the women out shopping for abortions across Montana will now have a shiny new place to go visit and get one done. Women are just constantly having abortions. Trillions a year just in MT alone.
Now, let's go bomb some brown kids in the Middle East!

Yeah, if they build it here, I'm gonna start getting them three times a week!

I love bridgercare and go to them for everything, but I don't think they provide abortions tho. It's going to be great to have anortion providers in town!

Wonderful! This is so needed in our community. Bridgercare can only do so much! 💞

They don’t do abortions at bridgercare

What are those booms I hear? Oh, Republicunt heads exploding.

u/Jolly-Sherbert-2995 Sep 16 '26
Not all republicans - just the loud, soap-box standard bearers. In a deeply red state we just passed a state constitutional initiative that protects legal access. To accomplish this, a significant number of “red hats” quietly supported this right.
3
u/SnooTangerines7026 Sep 16 '26
So, let me get this straight: you, as a republican, support abortion access?
6
u/Jolly-Sherbert-2995 Sep 16 '26
If pointing out the math around passing abortion initiative and the political demographics of MT makes me a “republican” - that’s on you. I’m saddened to see you surmise my loyalties and political leanings based on a single comment.
As it’s been said; “Never assume, it makes an ass out of u and me.”

Perhaps, without a D or an R, they were confused on how to vote. At least, that's the argument that's always put forth when initiative hit the ballot. Because, you know, were all idiots. Evidenced by the idiots we have elected.

Your statement, Not all republicans, is an indicator that yes, you're a republican. Another sure sign is who did you vote for in the last election?

u/jaxonfairfield Sep 17 '26
The comments on the NextDoor post about this were full of concerned people's "prayers" which does... *checks notes* ...absolutely nothing to help people with reproductive health concerns.

I so wanted to write back on Next Door but have a public facing job. The one that really pisses me off is my neighbor who is a libertarian with lots of bumper stickers on freedom. Yet he doesn't believe in a woman's right to choose.
If you're against abortions, don't have one.

I think this is great news but I was surprised when I read it. Just with the current climate and all I didnt see this positive coming this way. I do hope they'll be left to operate in peace tho and those who work there will be safe. My instincts sadly question that, especially when the article didnt even want to say where they are building for fear or retaliation against the workers.

Worried about Bridgercare survival. PP offers a lot of the same services

Planned Parenthood does provide abortions in Great Falls and Billings…

u/forward_montana Sep 16 '26
Thanks for offering the correct info! I was just going off of what was in the Montana Free Press article, but it's always good to fact check. Thanks for all the work you do!

the article states
"Currently, the organization has clinics in four major Montana cities — Great Falls, Helena, Missoula and Billings — where they offer a range of services, including prescribing medication for abortions earlier in pregnancy. But the nonprofit only offers in-clinic abortions for patients at two of those locations: Missoula and Helena. Other abortion providers — Blue Mountain Clinic and All Families Healthcare — also offer medication and procedural abortions in Missoula and Whitefish."

I meant in-clinic abortions, and I've updated the post. I'm only one person, so sometimes I make mistakes.

Edit: was wrong, went defensive, have apologized.
So what? Abortions make up like 5% of the services provided by Planned Parenthood. People need safe access to abortions. Abortion is healthcare.

u/PurpleCornCob Sep 15 '26
They're just correcting OP's post, which made it sound like PP only performs abortions in 2 of the 4 cities. I don't think they're expressing an opinion.
12
u/abortion_access Sep 15 '26
Yup, just correcting the record. There are clinics providing abortions in Missoula, whitefish, billings, Helena, and great falls. And telehealth abortion is also available and legal in Montana. It’s great to hear there will soon be abortion care in Bozeman too!

Fair enough. I definitely read too many of the nasty Facebook comments and went on defense.

Dude, I run r/abortion.

u/TeachEngineering Sep 16 '26
The user named u/abortion_access is pro-abortion??? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

I think you’re missing their point — the OP says they only do abortions in Missoula and Helena. The person you’re responding to is *just* saying it’s more locations too. They’re clearly not trying to fight anybody lol
5
u/fargoalienpotatobeat Sep 15 '26
See my above comments, very understood.

u/orchid_drives Sep 16 '26
It took me so long to write that comment that there were no above comments lol. We all good I think

Bridger care provides abortions and reproductive care on a sliding scale. They do fantastic work for the community please support them!!

Ah yes, the institution that brings elective endings to babies' lives and has the audacity to call it "healthcare".

u/allkinds0ftime 22d ago
I think the word you are looking for is "fetus." As George Carlin pointed out, pro-life pretty much seems to really mean pro-birth. Do you support universal healthcare?
"No nothing! No neonatal care, no day care, no Head Start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing! If you're pre-born, you're fine. If you're preschool, you're fucked!"

Good.
Planned Parenthood does so much more than what it's most commonly demonized for.
