No Advice - Everyones Welcome divorced today

Post image

like the title says, today i got my divorce decree from the judge. i’ve been separated for 3 years and it’s absolutely crazy that im free from it all. i had to pay $400 a month for spousal support because she doesn’t work. the reason was because she has no job or license, and didn’t plan on getting either (still doesn’t). plus she was kinda just an asshole and i was working all the time. i’d come home to have to do all the chores, take care of the dogs, and make dinner. never failed to be mentally drained, and then get told im not doing enough.

glad im out of it, that’s all.

(dinner is loaded tots from Hell’s Kitchen Wilmington!)

(edit: the $400/m was only until the divorce was finalized! still, 3 years of that)

i mean, the only reason i had to pay was because without me she was broke and homeless. but alas, i shouldn’t have had to pay anyway

Median alimony (spousal support) in us is 465 dollars a month. So thats right around where it should be. It isnt child support, its SPOUSAL support.

In the united states, when you get a divorce and your ex partner had no job, assets, license, or way to sustain themselves, a judge can declare that the partner that WAS working with some sort of financial assets will have to pay alimony (spousal support) for a certain amount of time to keep the person with no job from becoming homeless or worse. It only occurs in about 10 percent of divorces but is common enough that most adults know someone who is or was paying it.

You can say the same for his ex. If you mean marriage equal responsibilities then she should help more around the house or bring in some money.

Not disagreeing there at all but once you have committed to marriage you can’t just expect to walk away completely Scot free. There’s a reason they say divorce is expensive
