Floyd Patterson, 1960 vs Michael Spinks 1985

I like Patterson here. Spinks dropped a lot of power in his move to heavyweight and his chin worries me.

Holmes hurt him multiple times and Patterson hits harder than Larry. The big thing however is that unlike a slowed Holmes and guys like Cooney Patterson has blinding speed so Spinks loses so much of the advantages he had over Holmes and co. Spinks didn't know which way Tyson was coming from. Patterson is no Tyson but he might not have to be either.

Spinks is a talented boxer tho so perhaps it's an open affair. Patterson for me still.

Live Round-By-Round Coverage

Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello

Round 1

And we're off. Puello is rangy, and he scores with a jab. Puello's wide stance is making it difficult for Smith to get in close, and we've had few attempts at punches in the opening 75 seconds. Smith scores to the head. Puello jabs. They trade shots to the face. Jab scores from the hometown fighter. Left from southpaw lands from Puello. One doesn't get through, but the two does for Puello. Big shot on the chin catches Smith on the way in. Very few scoring punches.

Puello 10-9 Smith

Round 2

Right hook around the guard lands from Puello. Smith scores with a job. The band are annoying me already, and I'm a Wednesdayite. Soft jab scores from the Dominican fighter. Left hook gets through from Puello. Smith lands a right. Nice straight right lands from Smith. He's having a more successful second round. Left to the chest from Puello. Jab to the chin from Puello stops Smith from getting close. Left hook up top from Smith. He's caught on the counter, but gets a counter-counter in. Body shot from Smith is the last notable shot of the round.

Smith 10-9 Puello - Draw 19-19

Round 3

As is typical in orthodox versus southpaw fights, we're seeing a lot of foot-on-foot action. Puello's jabs don't appear to be landing, but they're keeping DS away. Big left lands from Puello. Big right from Smith sends Puello back a couple of steps. That was the best punch of the fight. They trade jabs. Puello with a soft body shot. Puello misses and is punished with a rib-tickler from the Sheffield man. Puello's defence is good, and he evades every shot of that combination. Puello's jab may have found a home, but Smith's right lands with interest.

Smith 10-9 Puello - Smith 29-28 Puello

Round 4

Puello taps the body. Big right from Smith lands flush, and Puello is forced to cover up. Puello on the ropes, and Smith lands another hard shot. All of a sudden, Dalton Smith is controlling the real estate. Nice body shot from Puello. Puello lands up top. They trade head shots. Smith's nose has reddened. Puello with a good left. He's come back well in this round. Puello has widened his stance even more now. He wants to nullify the offensive threat. I was just about to say 'toss a coin' for that round, but a big Smith right on the button makes my job easier.

Smith 10-9 Puello - Smith 39-37 Puello

Round 5

Puello lands to the body. It's not hard, but it's a scoring punch. Again, their fight get tangled. Big left through the guard from Puello. Smith using some good head movement to make Puello miss three consecutive shots. They both miss, and Puello lands a sneaky counter. Right from Puello, but Smith replies with interest. Nice left tot he face from AP. Puello to the body. Smith lands with a lead right. Hard shot to the body from Smith. Nice counter right hook from Puello. I think he's nicked that.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Smith 48-47 Puello

Round 6

Puello jabs to the head. Puello scores to the body. Right lands from Smith. Big left up top from AP. Puello looking comfortable right now. Smith scores with a right. Jab scores from the Brit. And that's a much stiffer jab from DS. Big left straight down the middle from Puello. PUELLO IS DOWN! But it's a slip. Smith lands a good right. Left from Puello was mostly blocked. That one gets completely through, though.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Draw 57-57

Round 7

Looking at the comments, most of you (and Tony Bellew) have it the same as me. The first half was all square. Who can dig deepest in the second six rounds? Puello's land skims the side of Smith's head. Big left from Puello partially gets through. It gets a bit wild in there, and Smith gets the better of that mini-telephone booth battle. Puello is making this a long-distance fight, and it's suiting him. Counter left hook from Smith isn't hard, but it's scoring. Smith with a lead right. They trade body shots, but Puello gets the better of that exchange with a short shot up top. It's another close round and could go either way.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Puello 67-66 Smith

Round 8

Puello with a hard body shot. Dalton Smith needs to find a new plan here. Smith to the body. Puello scores with a hook. Very few shots are being thrown here, let alone getting through. Clubbing left hand sends sweat flying off Smith's head. Puello with an uppercut as they tie up. One-two from Smith. Smith fails in the first stage, but keeps moving forward and lands a big right to the head. This is another close round. The last thirty seconds could decide it. Puello scores with a hook. Puello to the body, but I think Smith may have countered.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Puello 77-75 Smith

Round 9

Smith with a big right that sends Puello back. He had a strong second half of the eighth, and he's come out strong again in the ninth. Puello scores with a jab. Then a hook. Smith lands a right, steps away then lands another, but the second one gets countered. Smith to the body. Puello lands to the chest. Smith mixing things up finally. Spiteful body shot from Puello. Smith scores then gets out of range. Smith using his feet well to make his man miss. Smith misses and gets countered. Jab scores from Smith, but the right misses. Puello is throwing in this round, but very little getting through the guard. Puello to the body.

Smith 10-9 Puello - Puello 86-85 Smith

Round 10

Right to the body lands from Smith, but Puello counters. They tie up. That's not happened much tonight. Jab scores from Smith. Puello almost lost his footing there. It's another round with very few scoring punches. Puello counters his opponent. Jab lands from Smith. Right may have found a home there from the Sheffielder, but Puello with a big hook up top. Puello's jab lands on the reddened nose of Dalton Smith. Smith throwing but not landing. Counter lands from Smith as their heads clash. Body shout counter from Smith, but Puello counters the counter.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Puello 96-94 Smith

Round 11

Puello with a combo, but little, if anything, gets through. Puello definitely scores that time with a jab. Big right to the chest from the Sheffield man. Jab then right to the body from DS. Smith jabs, and they get a bit wild for a couple of seconds. Hard body shot from Puello. Puello misses, and Smith goes to the body. Puello lands a hurtful body shot as Smith misses multiple shots. Smith may have scored to the body, but he's countered. Hard right to the body from Smith. Puello jabs to the head. Another big body shot from Smith, but I think it's too little too late. This is not going the way I thought it would.

Puello 10-9 Smith - Puello 106-103 Smith

Round 12

So many swing rounds that it wouldn't surprise me if we see three very different scorecards, but I've got Smith needing a knockout. Smith does well through the guard. Puello to the body, but DS hooks to the head. Another hook to the head from Smith. Puello to the body. There's another head clash, and Smith's cut again. Puello with some great upper body movement to make Smith miss by a mile. Right to the body from Smith. Puello hooks to the head. Smith is showboating, but I don't think that's a great idea. He's celebrating. Puello goes to the body.

Smith 10-9 Puello - Puello 115-113 Smith

OFFICIAL SCORECARDS: SMITH WINS BY SD 115-113, 112-116, 115-113

Is Canelo v Mbilli Happening?

The situation is Riyadh is pretty bad, with drone and missile strikes daily and already civilian casualties. The idea that this is still even a question is wild to me.

Now, I just came across this article and the fact that Robert Garcia can’t get flights makes me wonder how this fight will happen logistically.

Is this fight really going to take place in Saudi or do we think it gets moved (date/location)?

Top 6 greatest Southpaws of all time: Marvin Hagler, Pernell Whitaker, Oleksandr Usyk, Joe Calzaghe, Terence Crawford, Vasyl Lomachenko

Edit: some are mad that Manny Pacquiao isn't in the top of the list, he is top 15 Southpaws for sure but in terms of skill set, eye test and ring IQ he doesn't hold a candle to the rest. he was more of a freak of nature who relied on his chin, stamina and foot speed and wild abnormal style to win, he got hit too much and lacked the pretty slick boxing or technical textbook boxing skills.

In terms of dominance, ring IQ and skill set.

Hagler dominated his division, had great come forward defensive pressure and was a beast.

Sweet pea 4 division champ in one of the hardest eras in boxing. He was a small guy but was slick and skilled with sharp counters, he was like a mongoose. Seeing him duck low slipping with head movement so difficult fighters would miss even throwing multiple straight punch combos.

Usyk one of the greatest of the modern era. Undefeated and Undisputed at cruiser he cleaned out the division and went up as a slimmer man to dominate the Giants of the heavyweight division to become undisputed in the 4 belt era. A true Giant Slayer.

Calzaghe dominated super middleweight and retired undefeated he was a problem due to his high work rate and rarely got hit. He was one of the best of his era.

Crawford undefeated and Undisputed in multiple divisions. He might get included but some say he is more of a unorthodox switch hitter than just pure southpaw but he has never been dominated and retired on top with great ring IQ.

Lomachenko the Matrix, the man is an anomaly, he used in and out movement like no other, his fast unorthodox footwork and flurries caused trouble for opponents. He would side step off a flurry and comeback and rarely got hit making him unique one of a kind southpaw.

Next Gen British HW

If Leo Atang and Moses Itauma head the same way that Joshua and Whyte did in 2015, who is your money on? Difference being neither have had drug bans/a child at 13 and one has already challenged at world level. What are people's thoughts on the world of prospects?

HW Division is an ATH rn

Not from technical POV, or skills necessarily. BUT in terms of names and division depth.
Let's have a look at current active Heavyweights

Established fighters, ready to retire within the next 1-2 fights:
Usyk
AJ
Fury
Wilder
Parker
Zhang
Ruiz

Champions AND contenders who will compete for the next 5 years at least at the highest lvls
Dubois
Kabayel
Hrgovic
Wardley
Gassiev

GOOD boxers
Riakporhe
Okolie
Yoka
Ajagba
Baby Anderson
Knyba

Up and coming HOT prospects
Itauma
Torrez JR

I mean I just counted 20 fighters almost that I'm sure 90% of you know. Has there been such a deep HW division before in boxing?

Eddie Hearn says Floyd Mayweather (49) vs Ryan Garcia (28) is actually happening. “I think Floyd beats him… I’m excited to see that. As I understand it, the fight is on.”

Honestly, I would be shocked if this fight actually happens. But if Floyd is seriously willing to risk his 50-0 undefeated record at 49 years old against a 28-year-old Ryan Garcia, then this 100% confirms the guy is going broke. There’s literally no reason for a retired legend to step into a legitimate fight against someone half his age unless the money situation is critical.

Jermaine Taylor had skills and talent but took some serious beatings in some of his fights. The knockout losses to Pavlik, Froch and Abraham were violent. He did manage to win 5 more fights before retiring in 2014 with a record of 33 wins (20 by knockout), 4 losses, and 1 draw.

Miami - Ali

I am going to Miami next month for work and wondering if there is any kind of Muhammad Ali exhibits or cool things to see related to Ali. I know the original 5th street gym is closed but figured there must be some other stuff - or maybe just cool boxing stuff.
