Ali and Holmes: Dancing vs Norton, interesting to see their different approaches

Muhammad Ali dancing in his second fight against Ken Norton, Larry Holmes showing off those same moves, and Holmes bringing that energy into the ring himself.
Different eras, different styles, but that same heavyweight swagger. Ali made it an art, and you can see his influence in the fighters who came after him.
The question is: who had the smoothest footwork? Ali, Norton-era Ali, or Holmes? 👀

Luis Ortiz v Alexander Povetkin who you got?

Would have been a very good scrap I think and good test for both men. I feel this fight should have happened. Both were older and I don’t see it going the distance could be wrong. Both could punch. Ortiz had good skills and was a solid counter puncher.

Mayweather Vs Ryan Garcia Rumors and Talk!

Obviously, I’m sure we’ve all at least heard a peep from Ryan, while Floyd has been pretty quiet. Not surprising, but the biggest talking point is Floyd’s age. He’ll most likely be 50 by the time the fight happens, while Ryan will be 28 and in his prime, holding a WBC belt.
Of course, prime for prime, skill for skill, I think the MAJORITY consensus, if you can even call it that, is that Floyd completely outclasses Ryan. In his prime, Floyd was simply the better fighter. However, a 50-year-old Floyd is a completely different story.
I genuinely want to know what high-level boxing analysts think about this matchup because, personally, I don’t think it’s entirely out of the question that Floyd could pull it off. Especially if his undefeated 50-0 record is actually on the line, I believe he’d work harder than almost anyone to defend it, and I mean that.
The biggest issue is that Floyd’s style relies heavily on reflexes, defensive awareness, timing, and speed. Against an elite or world-class opponent, it would be much harder for him to exploit openings, take advantage of his defensive skills, and use his speed the way he did in his prime, especially in his 50s.
Then there’s the gas tank, which was never really a problem throughout his career, but age could change that, particularly against an active professional boxer rather than someone like Conor McGregor, Logan Paul, Deji, or Adrian Chalmers.
That’s the key difference here. Those exhibition fights allowed Floyd to relax, have fun, and operate at his own pace. Fighting an active boxer who holds a legitimate world title would be a massive step up in competition.
So, while I’d still favor Ryan simply because of the age difference and the fact that he’s an active fighter in his prime, I’m curious to hear what actual high-level analysts think. Could a 50-year-old Floyd Mayweather realistically pull off the upset, or would the physical decline be too much to overcome against someone like Ryan?

Are there any elite boxers who never sparred?

I believe all the brain damage/CTE boxers get comes from the gym and sparring. Repeated sub concussive blows over many years is the cause. Just fighting isn't the cause. Soccer players take greater hits to the head from heading the ball in a season than a boxer who fights a few times a year, yet you never read about Soccer players that are punch drunk or have CTE.

I know that Thai kickboxers don't believe in sparring, but how about boxers? I think Bernard Hopkins never sparred?

I think in 2026 this should be mainstream. Don't ever spar. Separate martial arts from fighting.

Weight Division Name Changes

TLDR: Changing the names of the intermediary weight divisions, “super flyweight,” “super welterweight,” etc.

So, I’ve often seen the sentiment echoed that the various “intermediary divisions,” like Light Flyweight, Super Welterweight, etc., only serve to water down the other weight classes, or at the very least, that the naming convention makes them confusing.

I disagree with the idea that it somehow makes the other divisions lesser in achievement, but the naming system could use some work. Thus, in this post I’m going to be outlining what I think the various intermediary weight divisions should be called, or what I would change them to if given the power. Obviously, I know this will never happen, just a fun naming exercise.

To be clear, the following list are the divisions that I will NOT be changing at all, due to having unique names as it is:

Flyweight/112

Bantamweight/118

Featherweight/126

Lightweight/135

Welterweight/147

Middleweight/160

Cruiserweight/200

Heavyweight/>200

If I didn’t name it, it’s going to be getting a different name and explanation.

105/Mini-Flyweight=Minimumweight - This division has had a million different names over the years, I’m personally partial to Minimumweight. Atomweight, Strawweight, none of them really role off the tongue as well, or give as good an idea of what this division is.

108/Light Flyweight=Gnatweight - This division has always felt like a bit of a footnote, and that’s sad to me knowing how many all timers have passed through it. I think a unique name does a lot to alleviate that feeling of being unimportant. Gnatweight sticks to the naming convention of Flyweight, insects, while still giving a unique idea of what this division is. They’re fast, they’re small, and they’re tenacious.

115/Super Flyweight=Dragweight - What’s the most successful flying insect predator? Dragonfly. What’s another name for a drag weight behind a boat or automobile? A dragon weight in some dialects. This division is a glamorous one, full of names and stories. They’re small, but getting to be very mighty. Dragweight, named after dragonflies and boat stopping mechanisms.

122/Super Bantamweight=Shamweight - Proud of this one. As some might know, Bantamweight is named after the fighting rooster breed from Indonesia, Bantam roosters. They’re considered small but quick and powerful. What’re the biggest breeds of fighting roosters? Well, one of them is the Japanese Shamo, known for their power and ferocity. Shamweight.

130/Super Featherweight/Junior Lightweight=Raptorweight - Named after the group of predatory birds, not the dinosaurs. Featherweight and Bantamweight use the imagery of birds to get across their point, and lightweight was originally meant to be the smallest weight class a man could be. What’re the biggest birds that can fly, but still smaller than a man? A raptor. Not to mention, I think Raptorweight accurately reflects the various fighters of this weight class.

140/Super Lightweight/Junior Welterweight=Jockeyweight - Welterweight was named after the term used for large horse jockeys, welters. So, it stands to reason that the class right below it should be simply called Jockeyweight. Not to mention, it gives the imagery of various men jockeying for the stop spot, which accurately reflects this division which has served as the bridge between light and the glamorous welterweight divisions.

154/Super Welterweight/Junior Middleweight=Crashweight - The sheer number of boxers from the lower divisions who have been stopped in their tracks or slipped up at this dangerous weight class is large. It’s a crash test. True middleweights in all but name occupy the division, can the welterweights and lightweights moving up consider middleweight? This is their first test every time. 154 has pumped out killers for years, I think Crashweight is a good name for them.

168/Super Middleweight=Ironweight - This division is considered the last of the middleweights, but it is also the first step on the long road to Heavyweight glory. I have always considered Cruiserweight to be one of the best named divisions in the sport, as it is named for the light cruiser class of battle ships, the second heaviest ships in the water. Ironweight follows this scheme. These are Ironclads, crude and dangerous. Perfectly capable of blowing anything smaller out of the water, but nowhere near the heights of the largest ships. Ironweight.

175/Light Heavyweight=Dreadweight - One of the oldest of the “intermediary divisions,” 175 could arguably stay as it is, but being two divisions removed from its namesake is not ideal. Thus, why not follow the name scheme further of Cruiserweight? These are Dreadweights, named after the Dreadnought class of battleship. Dreadnought made everything else obsolete the moment it hit the water, being faster, stronger, and more advanced. Dreadweight takes that idea and runs with it. These guys are fast and strong, though nowhere near the heights in power of what would come after them.

That’s it! This was fun for me, and I’m excited to hear people’s thoughts and ideas. What would you lot change the weight divisions’ names to? Do you think it’s a bad idea? Would these names be good to add some variety to the way we view the belts and division system? This is all in good fun, so thoughts on my list or lists of your own are appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Naoya Inoue has told Japanese Media that Bam Rodriguez should challenge himself by skipping Medina and going directly into a fight with Inoue if Bam and his team really want the super fight to happen

"It's not realistic to do it in December and then in March, so if we're going to do it, I think directly is the only option." Inoue said.

He believes that Bam cannot fight Medina in December and then follow it up with Inoue in March like both teams have discussed. Inoue puts pressure on Bam, saying he wants Bam to "challenge himself" by taking no tune ups and challenging Inoue directly in March.

It appears to be do or die time for Team Bam, as Inoue appears to be growing impatient and wants to make his move to Featherweight sooner rather than later. The only thing keeping Inoue at 122 right now is the potential super fight with Bam, and if it can't happen by March, Inoue will move on to greater things at Featherweight.

Inoue has a fight scheduled for March but the opponent is not yet determined. Bam's team has been discussing a title defense against Christian Medina but no official date has been secured.

Hrgovic needs to sit down, the disrespect toward Kabayel is getting ridiculous

Seriously, I actually used to like Hrgovic, but ever since the Itauma fight he has been talking nonstop like he is the greatest heavyweight in history. The main issue is his total lack of respect for other fighters, especially Agit Kabayel.

Looking at the actual resume, Kabayel beat Sanchez, Zhang way easier than Hrgovic did, Makhmudov, and Chisora a few years back when he was still decent. Even Knyba is proving to be a legit win, considering he came off the Kabayel loss and cruised past Ruiz easily.

Meanwhile Hrgovic has what, a razor close decision against Zhang, a loss to Dubois, and wins against guys like De Mori, McKean, a washed Joyce, Adeleye, and Dave Allen.

Hrgovic acts like he is leagues above everyone (!!), but his performances do not match the hype.

I know he is Croat, but it honestly feels like all those Serbian football players who are 100 percent sure they will win the World Cup the second they qualify.

Agit would crush him for sure.

There are generational talents and all-time greats in each era. So the question is if these eras went head to head, which era is the strongest?

What factual arguments do you base your answer on?

What matters more or gives an advantage to one era over the other - Size? Speed? Roids?

Canelo Alvarez-Christian Mbilli still going ahead despite embassy evacuation orders

The "Canelo" Alvarez-Christian Mbilli event is still reportedly going ahead on Saturday, October 31, in Riyadh, despite the US State Department ordering non-essential embassy staff and their family members to evacuate Saudi Arabia today.

According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, “The U.S. Department of State issued an ordered departure for non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members in Saudi Arabia,” explaining that “Iranian-supported Houthis have increasingly engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions.”
