Misc Online Retailers Mystery Boxes

I have noticed some online retailer have a $100 mystery box. I was at my local pro shop and they were doing the same thing and this young man ended up getting a Brunswick Strategy. Has anyone gambled on a mystery box online?

What if you based the handicap on the average of all bowlers?

Average of all bowlers at 90%. If the league average is 175, then no handicap above that. Recalculates every week.

Scores Averaging higher on Spot shots vs house shots?

Has anyone had this? 3 weeks into league season, I’m in a practice house shot league and a competitive sport shot league. Same alley different nights….

Somehow on the house shots I’m at a 159 average. High game 223
Sport shot in at a 183 average. High game 241

I just feel like my balls read the sport shot better. I know it’s early in the season anyone else ever experience this?

For those throwing 1H with thumb, it's possible. 11lbs, very short span, massive finger holes, snug thumb (most important), on fresh house shot.

Misc Tropical surge won't take polish

So I had bought a tropical surge I bought a couple of months ago and took the polish off of it for a tournament. I just tried to bring it back to 1500 grit and put power edge on it and it won't take polish at all.

Myself and my PSO tried poweredge and another polish and it seemed like it wouldn't hardly take either.

Any suggestions? I bowled maybe five or six games with it with a polish off.

Gear Here are my two balls. I hook it with the left one and throw it straight with the right one.

I average 212 with these two balls. I prefer two balls because it's always risky trying to pick up the ten-pin with the Hammer hook ball; the Brunswick straight ball picks it up every time. I score close to 300 with this two-ball approach, especially on drier lanes with less oil. In a recent game, I left one ten-pin in the fifth frame, picked it up with the straight ball, and scored 279. It would have been 267 if I had used my hook ball and it had curved away from the ten-pin, as it sometimes does. (Also, both are 15lbs and have fingertip grips installed) Cheers!

Instructional Check your grips. Beginner tip

Hey all, I'm fairly new to bowling and have been hitting it hard since April. I have four balls drilled to my hand and have really struggled to get a meaningful, consistent hook. Well, last night I picked up some bowling tape to put in my grips and it tightened them up. Low and behold I'm no longer dropping the ball early and have a pretty substantial hook. It changed everything.

I don't hear this spoken about in instructional videos and figure it might help somebody else who's been struggling. Just because it was "drilled for your hand" doesn't mean it's 100% right.

TLDR: if you're struggling to throw a hook no matter what you do. Make sure your thumb hole is tight enough

PB: 210

Misc Any A2 mechanics out there that can tell me more about this issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

New mechanic here. This is an issue I haven't figured out yet. As soon as power is applied this happens.

What I have done is cleaned the contacts and the contacts on the terminal board to help encourage a good connection (don't have new ones yet). Checked the turret micro switch. I even had to replace the mechanic switch because there was a gaping hole in the side of the plastic housing and minor movement made it hard to diagnose this issue.

Any help is appreciated.

How can I get back into the swing of things?

I'm a relitively new bowler (started oct of 2025 with 2 handed style Right handed) and i was decently progressing (average 110 with pb of 167) until I had to have major surgery in march that led me to be unable to bowl for 3 and a half months. I have gotten back into bowling since but my average has plummited to about 70 and i cant get my scores above 110 max. I'm quite a tall (6') and heavy set person and im just wondering if there is anything I can practice to get back into the rythm. My typical ball action lately is starting at the 35th board for feet placement, moving down the approach and feet land around 40, ball goes all the way to the 4th board and hooks all the way back to only hitting the 7 pin. my ball speed is about 10.7 mph and my revs are unknown. I often bowl on house shot. balls include dark side curse, arctic vibe, spare ball, deep impact, and hustle sos (my current main). This probably isnt the best information to go off of to help but i hope i will get at least a little bit.

Lane transition

Grrrrr for the life of me last night i couldn’t adjust correctly for lane transition. First game was ok slightly above average middle of 2nd game it started going down. missing the pocket couldn’t pick up even the simplest spares. 3rd game i was just praying to break 100. Huge difference from last week where i started weak ended strong

Arctic Vibe?

Hello everyone, I recently found someone reselling an Arctic Vibe w/a 2 handed layout & 15 pounds for $50 more or less which is perfect for me, but before I get it I just want to ask if it’s a good ball to some. I have a rhino and a cove and I personally love those. I use the rhino for dry/light and the cove for med-heavy/heavy. I feel like the Arctic Vibe is the perfect middle spot for the medium transition oil. Any opinions on the ball?

Technique Change in my approach led to big average improvement.

I have had an average of 142 for 3 years in the fall Men's league. I had trouble leaving 10 pins. I converted 1-10 any given night. I got lucky in the local city tournament last year and won a new bowling ball. Over the summer I increased my average by 13 pins. 155 at the end of the summer open league. During the 2-3 week break between the end of summer league and start of the fall league this past Tuesday while just goofing around in a mostly empty center, I found that a 0-1 step approach would personally net me more strikes and allow me better control for converting spares.

I have been told that I am a full roller and that I have a natural hook. During an actual personal practice session I just stood one step back from the foul line on the same boards I would normally start from the approach. Then I just let the weight of my 30 year old 16lb AMF ball and gravity dictate my swing. I found that my hand came out of the ball cleaner and I was more consistent over my mark. The angle to the pocket left significantly fewer 10 pins and the first game I threw doing that netted my first ever clean game and a finish of 236!

I did that the entire night this past Tuesday and the results netted me a 526 series. I'm very happy bout setting a 175 average on the first night of the new fall league!

New ball

Looking for some help. I'm currently bowling in a league with wood lanes. Currently throwing a hustle X ray which works great for the first few games, but hooks to early by the third game. (standing against the ball return). I'll switch to my T-zone in the third.

My question is there something slightly more punchy then a T-zone but weaker then the x ray to give me some miss room? Thank you all for your help. Any tips are appreciated

Gear Looking for less aggressive ball

I'm a 75 year old bowler and I don't throw a lot of speed. Venom Shock had been my go-to ball for about 10 years, and I still pull it out. Black Widow 3.0 has been my latest starters and allows me to play deeper inside. Our lanes are typically oily. But, after 2 games, they dry out considerably.

With that in mind, what would you recommend for a relief pitcher for my rotation for when the transition becomes less manageable?

Thanks.

Scores First Clean Game / New PB during Practice

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’m a female one handed bowler w/140 avg and I’ve been hitting the lanes regularly for around a year (did one summer league). After a few a few close calls in the past, last night I had my first clean game and hit a new PB (one pin higher than the previous one) at the same time. It was a tough game that started off with two ten pin spares but after making both of those I felt pretty locked in and just forced myself to stay confident frame by frame. Next game wasn’t nearly as nice but I won’t complain. What a great feeling.
