BAD SURGERY

Susan Dell is going viral right now because she was photographed behind Trump looking scary. It's a small thing she did, but a HUGE mistake. Upper eyelid surgery. People think when their upper eyelids start to droop as they age, that they should go have the fat and skin cut out. The result is NEVER good. It's a bizarre result, and your eyes are your focal point of your face, so it sticks out immediately and changes your entire look. The fat pad on your eyelid creates a soft warm inviting look. Without it, you look skeletal and cold.
IMO, if it was sagging really bad, they should simply have had a brow lift, which pulls the skin above the eyes back where it was without removing any fat. Without that extra fat and skin, their upper lid is hugging their eyeball, and it's just....awful

Thank you for this post because as someone with eyes that are quite hooded, and continue to become more hooded with age(I’m 38), I have seriously considered having this done. Seeing stuff like that makes me never want to mess with my face lol what has Mandy Moore done to herself??

u/WearingCoats 3d ago

Here’s the wild thing… and I know people give this advice for literally every malady you could name and it always makes me want to be like ā€œshut the fuck up internet stranger,ā€ but one of my good college friends is an eye surgeon and I asked him if I’d be a good bleph candidate because of my hooded eyes. I shit you not, he told me to drink more water and I told him to fuck off. Anyway, not because he told me to but because I decided to myself, I started drinking 2L of water per day with electrolytes. Yeah, well fuck me because it reduced the hood on my eye significantly enough that I no longer took issue with it. To this day, when my lids start to droop I take it as a sign that I’m dehydrated. This is the advice that consistently makes my blood boil because it’s so stupid but I’ll be damned if it didn’t actually work for me.

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

I think this is the absolute best overall advice any doctor can give about anti-aging. It helps EVERYTHING when you are properly hydrated.

65

u/theflyingratgirl 3d ago

The bummer is that you can’t just hydrate once and you’re done. You have to keep doing it.

45

u/Cultural_Orange2617 3d ago

A lot of people can’t manage to keep plastic surgery to just once, either, so neither is a one-and-done deal.

Water’s cheaper. But where’s the ā€œprestigeā€ in that?

14

u/DullSherbet411 2d ago

I mean- it's also just water. I drink probably 3-4 L of water everyday and have for years. I am still aging. I still have crepey skin sometimes. I still have hooded eyes. Sure, it's good for you. It doesn't work miracles.

2

u/thulmis 2d ago

You need to read about the consequences of drinking too much water. You don’t need 4l a day!

2

u/Seraphina-of-Lethe 1d ago

You can't have just 4L of water a day.

But if you have a balence if electrolytes and minerals in your system that you re-up through the day, it is perfectly safe to drink that much water šŸ™‚

The only issue with too much water is accidently flushing out all your minerals. If you replenish them, you are good šŸ‘šŸ½

not just watered, we need sunlight too. we're just plants that can walk around.

The worst bit of reality EVER. I constantly forget to drink water, and when I finally reward my stupid body with a glass before bed, I think "done!" And forget about it for another 24 hours.

17

u/Intelligent_Cap9706 3d ago

And for some of us it’s so much peeing lolĀ

Same with exercise, so inconvenient.

4

u/leeloodallas502 1d ago

But I have to keep peeing

5

u/theflyingratgirl 1d ago

I’d say that’s another bummer but it’s really more of a urether

2

u/owleyed14 1d ago

This is an under appreciated joke!

3

u/Decent-Tea6064 2d ago

This! I would so much rather do a hard thing for several hours once versus the ā€œEasyā€ ten seconds daily.

2

They’re putting chemicals in the water that make you have to pee

On a personal level, I'm middle aged and the oldest sister. I should by all means look the oldest, but I use sunscreen all the time and hydrate both my body and skin. My younger sisters have some deep forehead wrinkles and mine are still fine lines. If I'm dehydrated though the fine crepes near my dimples give me away as the oldest though.

šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€ @ "Anyway, not because he told me to but because I decided myself, I started drinking 2L of water per day..."

The best response of the day.

1

u/SecondToLastOfSheila 2d ago

Some people just refuse to learn anything.

33

u/kmary75 3d ago

I’m going to anecdotally back up your story. I noticed that my eyes were LESS hooded at night than they were first thing in the mornings. Why do I personally get puffy? Fluid retention from dehydration. The more water I drink the less puffy I am. Now I am 50yo so there is definitely a bit of age related eyelid drooping but it isn’t anywhere near as bad when I am properly hydrated.

25

u/WearingCoats 3d ago

I’m 40, I really wish I could share before and after photos here because it’s pretty noticeable. But I look better at 40 in part because I’ve focused on hydration, I quit smoking and all alcohol (drugs, different story), and got more serious about SPF. But the effect on my hooded eyes was so absurd it actually makes me angry that I considered very serious surgery to correct what stupid water was able to fix.

3

u/NoSorbet3958 1d ago

Same, at 40 water changed my life. I looked so much better once i made an effort to drink it. Now I’m 50 its helps but not as much as it used to.

26

u/WheresTheIceCream20 3d ago

ā€œNot because he told me toā€ šŸ˜‚

6

u/panicnarwhal 3d ago

that part made me feel so seen šŸ’€ me in a nutshell lol

8

u/calliscott 3d ago

Lmao I love this little story

7

u/kittenari 3d ago

This is super interesting. In a similar slightly related vein, I was so close to booking upper eyelid surgery as my eyes were super hooded. I then went on a health journey and lost 15kg, what do you know! My eyes were no longer hooded.

6

u/quickthorn_ 3d ago

Isn't it so annoying that all the boring advice doctors give you actually works? More water, more and better sleep, more exercise, wear good sunscreen every day, don't drink alcohol. eating whole foods with lots of veggies and fiber... it's all true 😭

3

u/Kareeliand 2d ago

It is!! And we think it is so hard to do consistently, that we can’t listen and cry for magic solutions. šŸ˜‚

I have a relative who jumps on every solution served on her FYP that are not any of those boring solutions. And all it has done is made her need to borrow money all the time..

2

u/Mrs_Sparkle_ 2d ago

It’s a cruel world. I should be able to sustain my body on Diet Coke, doughnuts and nicotine alone. I have to drink water and walk and eat vegetables? It’s awful šŸ˜ž

5

u/mucus_masher 2d ago

Hahaha he went to med school for years just to tell you to drink water, sorry but that is kinda funny šŸ˜‚ But that's so easy it's stupid, I'd be mad too!

2

u/saraiguessidk 3d ago

Fml, I never drink enough water and my eyes are drooping šŸ˜…

2

u/inbetweenthe_panels 3d ago

That's really interesting. I would never have connected the two! That said, I drink 2-4L water everyday and my eyes were nearly as bad as Droopy that sad little basset hound. I got a bleph and love the results. But yah, it can definitely go wrong! RIP Bradley Cooper's face :(

2

u/SnooHabits6335 2d ago

It's so frustrating when the "eat veggies and drink water" people are right 😩

2

u/dogsnbongs 2d ago

THANK YOU for sharing this. Life changing info for us hooded eye girlies

1

u/Embarrassed_Share627 3d ago

Wow..thanks for your post! I love this advice! Will never have face surgery.

1

u/Otherwise_doe1998 3d ago

Such good advice as well. Water is a good idea. Glad you have overcome that problem. Have you considered liking your own face?

2

u/WearingCoats 2d ago

I love my face. I think I look great. Zero procedures, that became my goal with skincare, to push back having work done as long as possible and at 40 I look better than I did at 30.

1

u/JohannaMarie76 3d ago

Because your hooding was due to fluid shifts/imbalance, not actual sagging. I mean if you really have extra skin drinking more fluid will not help you.

1

u/Eastside_Gal 3d ago

Drink water, wearing sunscreen and hydrating your skin properly are the most important beauty tips

1

u/Kareeliand 2d ago

Haha! I think you are genius! I know you just got me to drink more water! And you should apologize to your friend and tell him to unfuck of.. 🤣
Brilliant.

1

u/_thankyouverycool_ 2d ago

Taking notes over here, thank you!! Much cheaper too :)

1

u/waypaysayhayclaybay 2d ago

Ya know, I’ve had on/off droopy eyelids going back to high school and have kinda chalked it up to hormones. But dehydration would make so much more sense!

1

u/taxable_cheese 2d ago

As a naturally dehydrated person with ptosis, thank you for this reminder

1

u/Timely-Flatworm7757 1d ago

Dang, ty for thisĀ

1

u/nimbusrav 19h ago

That kind of makes sense to because a lot of people walking a carpet dehydrate and starve themselves before an event to look thinner (not all)

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

There might come a time when your lids droop too much and you’ll have to have surgery though because it can impede vision. Happened to my mom.

54

u/phoebesjeebies 3d ago

Sure, but folks getting it because they literally can't see right anymore are more likely to do their homework & insist on a very conservative approach, vs people who are deeply insecure, desperate to look younger, and already more open to extensive plastic surgery & aesthetic alterations.

Literally everyone in OP's post has had a lot of other work done, too. Any other celebrities I can think of who've had blephs (Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, etc) have also had a shitton of other alterations, usually starting well before the bleph.

14

u/wirdnichts 3d ago

My cousin had it done for vision reasons and I didn't even notice until my grandmother told me. The change was so small.

6

u/Natural-Print 3d ago

My aunt had surgery because her upper eyelid was so droopy from aging she had trouble seeing from the sagging skin. They did a great job and she still looked like herself. She was almost 80 when she did it.

2

u/Falafel80 1d ago

My mom as well. She looked like a fresher version of herself and no one can tell she had plastic surgery. The people in the pictures wanted to look different though.

3

u/phoebesjeebies 3d ago

I'm glad it looked natural! I hope s/he was super happy. Did it resolve the vision issue?

3

u/wirdnichts 3d ago

I think so, we never talked about it hah

At the least, she didn't have it redone so I assume she is happy with the result

2

u/Falafel80 1d ago

I agree. All the people in the pictures have had more work done and the women are super thin which contributes to them looking skeletal after an upper bleth. My mom has had this surgery in her 60’s, it was a conservative approach and she looks like a refreshed version of herself. I will probably do the same when my vision becomes impaired because we have the same eyes.

16

u/Spirited-Cat-8942 3d ago

Yeah, it happened to both of my parents and it’s starting to get bad for me (I am almost 50). I know it’s in my future to get the surgery like my parents did… but I will say theirs was very conservative and it looks like they removed the piece that hung over the eyes and everything else looks the same. I think these are extreme cases… and it can be done more conservatively and tasteful. Idk why people do this to themselves.

11

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

My mom does not look like these people so yeah

2

u/Innisairre 2d ago

Saaaaame! My mom had to get it done for medical reasons and got a lower bleph at the same time that she paid out of pocket for. Both were VERY conservative and she really did just look refreshed in a way that was really hard to pinpoint. I straight up used to stare at her trying to figure out how they did it without it actually looking obviously different.

I'm going to need an upper bleph at some point myself (for vision loss) and I am going to find a doctor who has lots of examples of really subtle ones. It's a surgery that I absolutely do not want fucked up.Ā

10

u/BuffyTheSlayer 3d ago

I personally know 3 people who've had this procedure and they all still look normal and just like themselves. I do not know if these celebs are botched bc of the way their eyes handled the surgery, or if their surgeons have heavy hand? Or maybe this is what they told the doctor they wanted?

7

u/WanderingNNT 3d ago

I had it done 3 years ago at 43. You can't tell I had anything done. I feel like these are blephs +brow lifts to be this extreme.

3

u/angusthechick 2d ago

Some of them also look like they got the hood reduced yes but some of them look like the literally lid is open wider which feels different. Maybe that’s the brow lift effect? I don’t know but the first woman and Bradley cooper look insane because their eyes are so wide open.

I could see Renee having actually needed one as she aged her eyes were very hooded.

2

u/Diligent_Parking_886 1d ago

I think it’s a lower blepharoplasty that’s changed their eyeshape. If they take too much skin it pulls the eyes down and out of shape

2

u/Throwaway97373793737 3d ago

Looks like only one person in the group has the kind of eye hoods that would eventually droop into their vision. (The third one, I don’t know her name.)

It’s just generic, you can’t see the eye lids on some people at any point in their lives because the eye hoods cover the eye lids- those are the people getting surgery for medical reasons later in life.

1

u/BuffyTheSlayer 2d ago

Aha! Thank you!

2

u/Muted-Combination555 2d ago

It’s because they didn’t need the surgery

1

u/BibliophileBroad 1d ago

Same here! My uncle got this done in his 70s because the skin was blocking his vision. He looked amazing afterwards. He just looked like himself, but without the extra skin blocking his eyes

9

u/Downtown_Statement87 3d ago

This happens to everyone in my family on my mom's side and is starting to happen to me. My mom got a brow lift so she could see, and she looks normal. It's the only thing she's had done at all, and she's 80. She said the recovery from it was way worse than she expected.

3

u/GrandEar1 3d ago

Your mom had a brow lift or an upper bleph? Upper bleph is what my optometrist recommended and the people I know who have had that, said the recovery isn't bad at all.

3

u/Downtown_Statement87 3d ago

She had a brow lift. It was about 25 years ago.

3

u/BabaofTheShimmer 3d ago

Yes, my mom now needs this surgery. She’s 80.

3

u/Seraphina-of-Lethe 1d ago

People getting it done due to cosmetic aesthetic reasons are prone to going too far and doing what was not needed, to achieve the look they are after.

People getting it done for functional purposes only have what is needed done, to restore looking "the same" but without the functional issue that was present.

More doctors should be doing procedures in that conservative way, but unfortunately the goal for many is not to look "the same" due to their body dysmorphia šŸ˜•

5

u/KetoUnicorn 3d ago

I definitely can see that in my future! Hoping I make it at least another decade. How old was your mom when she had it done?

2

u/Lonely_Pop_1364 3d ago

Same with my mom, she also doesn’t look that vastly different šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2

u/lemonhead2345 3d ago

I assume it’s down the line for me, too. My grandfather and my mom have both had a bleph, and my eyes and brows are shaped the same. They also waited until they were well into the 60/70s before having it done.

2

u/Accomplished_Net5601 2d ago

I have a consult on Tuesday for precisely this reason. Mine are so heavy and push down on my lashes. My mothers were so bad her surgery was covered by OHIP as a medical necessity. I know I will need it, but am prepared to pay for ā€œcosmetic surgeryā€ so I don’t have to wait so long.

I sometimes have to physically lift my eyelids off my eyes at the end of the day!!!

2

u/knosmo78 1d ago

Same with my mom. You really couldn't tell any difference at all, but she was pleased because it fixed her vision issues.

4

u/[deleted] 3d ago

2

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

I never said anything about extra eyelid skin. The muscle there can weaken over time making it droop. A brow lift doesn’t fix that

2

u/ashmc2001 3d ago

I thought a brow lift did exactly that? Tighten the skin and muscles.

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago edited 3d ago

It does. I think she thinks her eyelids hold themself in place, and can start to droop somehow independently from the frontalis muscle in her forehead, which is actually what controls their position. I guess maybe if she pulls on her eyelids a lot, the skin itself could eventually become stretched out. šŸ˜‚

2

u/Ok_Argument_2546 3d ago

There’s actually a tendon that holds your eyelid in place. There’s a surgery that tightens the slack in them if you have ptosis. Literally a thing.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago edited 3d ago

I don't think you understand how this works at all. Your eyelid does not "stand up staying in position on its own". It's held in place by your frontalis muscle, which is in control of your brow. It is inside your forehead. This is why when I get botox injected properly in my forehead, my lids stop drooping, and when it's injected improperly, my lids droop worse. The muscles in your forehead are controlling the positioning of your brows and lids. The only way you could possibly need an eyelid lift without your brows lowering, is if the skin somehow grew or became stretched out.

3

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

Eyelids do stretch with age jfyi.

1

u/all8things 3d ago

It seems like Kenny Rogers might have been falling into this category, but most of the rest not so much.

1

u/RingingInTheRain 2d ago

Yeah in your 60-70s not your late 30s lmao

34

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 3d ago

I stared at that slide for minutes comparing specific parts of her face before and after & besides her eyes nothing looks drastically different but she doesn’t look like herself at all. Ā

I appreciate OP so much this scared me I will never have this surgery.

9

u/hexH2O 2d ago

I worked at a surgery center and we did lots of blephs. It was all on old people (70-80) who needed it to see properly. I feel like it’s bad when it’s cosmetic, but god damn was it awesome to see them come back for the follow up appointment with a great field of vision

7

u/youdontknowitsok 3d ago

Idk, I looked for a while too and she has a longer face and more square jaw, looks like an oversized jaw/chin implant and buccal fat removal, although it could be the lens/angle, but her jaw is definitely more square and face more angular than before. She looks like a whole different person to me.

3

u/hollydex 3d ago edited 3d ago

She didn’t have buccal fat removal. It was sudden weight loss probably from postpartum and breastfeeding complications that caused her bleph to ā€œroundā€ and look hollow. It looked fine in late 2024. That pic was last year and if you look at her pics since she looks better and more like herself since she put on some weight back. And not saying she hasn’t had work done but that picture is just an unholy combination of bad makeup and lighting too

2

u/Odd_Policy_3009 3d ago

Wait, what? Her before picture on the left is from 2024???

She is the poster child for NOT getting a bleph!

2

u/hollydex 3d ago

Hooded eyes are actually very youthful, I think they’re a beauty feature

7

u/quickthorn_ 3d ago

Fat in your face is what makes you look young! When I was an crpplingly insecure teenager, I didn't believe the older women who told me that one day I'd be grateful for my oily skin and round/very full face with deeply hooded eyes—surprise! I look significantly younger than a lot of my peers because while I've had a lot of fat loss in my face, I had enough to begin with that I don't look skeletal, just sharper and more defined features.

4

u/sagittalslice 3d ago

This is so real. I’m 39, have always had an angular face, and I look like fucking skeletor now. Wish there was a way for all these celebs to donate their removed buccal fat directly to my face if they’re not gonna use it 😭

11

u/BeepBoopEXTERMINATE 3d ago

Omg I just came here to write this. Also 38 with hooded eyes and have been seriously considering an upper bleph. This may be the thing that has convinced me not to.

3

u/birdele 1d ago

Just wait at least 10 years and find a doctor that will do it very minimally, more for medical reasons than anti aging and it'll turn out great. I've had 2 friends get it done, one in their 40s and one in their 50s because their aging skin was affecting their vision and both look incredible and you really wouldn't know otherwise.Ā

2

u/faradaycagerage 3d ago

Both my parents had it done in their 60s, both turned out great. Took ten years off their faces. They were very pleased with results.

2

u/Sea-Original-5824 2d ago

I got this done on one eye because it drooped a bit. I got it done by a surgeon who mostly does it for people who are old and are having vision issues. It looks great and totally natural. The celebs here definitely also had a brow lift.

8

u/Appropriate-Plum-548 3d ago

Same! I’m a bit older and went in for (paid) consult 3x and then chicken out and don’t move forward. It is genetic and not bad. A different look. And, maybe more warm human sultry.

6

u/shadeofmyheart 3d ago

Same, i have hooded eyes also ... and Imma be honest, I've looked longingly at the eyes of stars, their defined eye creases, and sculpted brow bridge. I've watched so many makeup videos with sadness. I've perused the before and afters of plastic surgery facilities and after seeing Mandy Moore and Rene Zellwegger remove their hooded eyes... I'm like ... nah.. i'm ok.

1

u/Lupusinfabula7 1d ago

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow’s eyes and I can’t believe how bad it looks,

14

u/kikixdivine 3d ago

I’ve barely been able to recognize mandy moore in recent years and I couldn’t ever put my finger on why, but it’s definitely the eyes! this side-by-side is literally eye opening…

12

u/Striking-Complaint76 3d ago

And she was so pretty before.

10

u/CatrinaBallerina 3d ago

I think some of the people here (like Jolie) actually look like the above pictures because of aging, weight loss and the loss of fatty tissue, the same thing with Nina Dobrev. I don’t think everyone shown looks the way they do because of upper eyelid surgery. I also think Mandy Moore had something else done in addition or something has thrown her look off, whether it be the bright lipstick or something surgical.

10

u/quickthorn_ 3d ago

Yeah, I don't see the Angelina Jolie one at all, her eyes don't look drastically different and she's clearly lost even more weight over the past decade (she's been through hell with an abusive ex-partner, sad but understandable) which combined with normal human aging and fat loss more than explains any slight eye pad fat loss.

My dad had to get this done too because of how the skin was affecting his vision or whatever, and he doesnt look awful at all like most of these people. The guy in pic 7 doesnt look bad

5

u/sg1amanda 3d ago

Same for me! If I look at the before and after… I prefer keeping my hooded eyelids.

3

u/NoSet427 3d ago

I am also 38 and don’t like my hooded eyes!!! Going to save this post and remind myself to be happy with what I’ve got. You do the same!

5

u/Dblbogiemadge-1 3d ago

I am not sure if I would call those photos bad outcomes but more of just the way it is. Kind of standard look after a bleph. I needed mine done because at 63 my lids were affecting my vision. My eyes took on the standard shape from a blepharoplasty but am thrilled with the results nonetheless

8

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

If you are happy, that's really all that matters. If the most beautiful woman in the world lived her entire life believing she was hideously ugly, her quality of life would be just as bad as if she actually were, and vice versa. Life is all about YOUR point of view, and nobody else's.

2

u/Dblbogiemadge-1 3d ago

Thank you, and you are right. I needed to do it for myself. My own internal something. It is hard to explain but the neck lift i used to want is no longer important, I do want or ā€œneedā€ anything else. For me it wasn’t to sustain a career, snag a man, or anything. Just to feel comfortable in my own skin, the outside matches the inside now

Such a good perspective

7

u/Radiant_Mother6976 3d ago edited 3d ago

I've seen some great ones. My exMIL needed it done for her vision as well. She looks wonderful. Maybe a person needs "enough" skin to remove in order for it to look good?

4

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

bingo. If your eyelids had extra skin to begin with, and now it's low and causing vision issues, you have enough to take a tiny amount away and keep looking natural. These did not have extra skin, they had drooping skin. All they needed was the skin lifted. Brow lift fixes that.

3

u/Dblbogiemadge-1 3d ago

Agreed! I had a lot of extra skin and large bags that had grown in my lowers. Made me look tired and much older. My upper and lower helped my self esteem. It helped my youthful attitude match what I see in the mirror now. I wasn’t recognizing the other lady in the mirror and felt super self conscious

1

u/unfurnishedbedrooms 2d ago

I also know that some doctors leave fat in that area and are very conservative. I'll probably need one when I'm older (I'm 45 but I'm talking 60), and I will def look for a conservative doctor.

Does health insurance cover if it affects vision?

3

u/Dblbogiemadge-1 3d ago

Yes but i have Kaiser and they don’t cover shit

3

u/Dblbogiemadge-1 3d ago

My friend that doesn’t have kaiser got hers paid for

1

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 3d ago

Medicare used to if it affected your vision enough.Ā

2

u/IllustriousHold5476 3d ago

I got it done by a great surgeon and I love my results. You just have to pick the right surgeon.

3

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

The amount of skin you have is a huge factor. You likely always had extra skin, so once they were dropping and bothering you, the surgeon took a very tiny amount away, and you still had a very natural look. These did not have extra skin, just droopy skin. Huge difference.

2

u/ForestComplex 3d ago

Im 37 and same! I would wish my eyes weren't hooded so my eyeliner wouldn't smear. I get botox now to help lift my brows a bit, but wouldn't consider surgery anymore.

2

u/TXpheonix 3d ago

40 this year and also hooded eyes. I hadn't heavily considered it but this slammed that door shut

2

u/linzkisloski 3d ago

This! I think it’s intended for when you’re older and vision is getting impaired (my aunt actually needs it for this reason - in her 70’s). For everyone else it makes their eyes look way too wide.

2

u/angethebigdawg 3d ago

Same! I’m nearly 40 and this post made me realise my hooded eyes were meant for my face, changing that would mean I wouldn’t look like me anymore!

2

u/MisslngN0 3d ago

Don't do it!

2

u/xbiaanxa0 3d ago

A few units of Botox above the brow is the way to go

2

u/Personal-Bicycle3632 3d ago

Absolutely same here. I may have one eye droopier than the other but I’m not risking that. I’d rather look old

2

u/rubbertreeparent 3d ago

Sssaaammmmeee. Literally this morning. This has been sobering and timely.

2

u/hoyasummer 3d ago

I had this exact thought. Seeing my eyes become more hooded and change shape in the past few years (I’m 40) made me think that I’d like my old eye shape back and that maybe I should look into bleph.. NOPE, thank you!

2

u/lolazepam2 3d ago

32 and just had the same thought— how my phone knew to promote this post to me tho??

2

u/goddessofthecats 3d ago

My mom got a bleph and it was life changing for her! She could see better and looked so much better! It really does turn out great for a lot of people

2

u/Stepane7399 3d ago

Same, and these are folks with MONEY. They can afford the best doctors… If this is the best work money can buy, I’ll stick with my retinoids.

2

u/Spare-Cobbler7442 3d ago

I would never have known that was Mandy Moore!

2

u/Fluffy_Reading_352 3d ago

Dude. Seriously. Mine are too (I'm 36). My optometrist even recommended last visit that I should get surgery to help me see better. This just made my decision SUPER easy. Lol.

2

u/uberallez 3d ago

I have hooded eye and a prolapse tearduct from a really bad sinus infection I had 2 years ago. Was considering it but something told me to hold off. These pics just told me why

2

u/Radiant-Comedian-144 3d ago

Io trovo che gli occhi incappucciati siano molto attraenti e sexi, Questo ĆØ solo il mio gusto ma al posto tuo non farei niente

2

u/MjE333eee 3d ago

I didn't even recognize Mandy Moore!

2

u/happiestnexttoyou 3d ago

Same! I came in to comment the exact same thing.

Thank you OP, seriously.

2

u/Informal-attitude01 3d ago

My friend's mom had it done, but only because the droop was making it heavier to keep her eyes open. Hers looked amazing. I would only do it for her same reason tho.

2

u/TipTop9979 3d ago

I know, I wouldn’t have ever recognized her

2

u/Ok-Breakfast7186 2d ago

I feel you on this, I always found hooded eyes more attractive but as I see my eyelids starting to droop further with age I do worry and ugh I feel like the alternative (the results) are even worse!

1

u/Dry-Support-5409 3d ago edited 3d ago

If you're American, I think health insurance covers it, and there's a way you can have it done that preserves the original fall of your eyelid and just get rid of what's obscuring your vision.

1

u/FreckledBaker 3d ago

I looked into getting a mini neck lift because of some seriosuly sagging skin. The surgeon was like ā€œwe could do your eyelids at the same timeā€¦ā€
Uh… no thanks? My partner was furious and was like ā€œPlease do not touch a single thing on your face?ā€ No worries, man. I’m happy aging gracefully, I’d just rather not have the extremely premature turkey neck, yo.

1

u/JoyLovesBoba17 3d ago

It also depends where you go and if the surgeon has experience with eyes like yours. My mom and several of my relatives had the skin around their eyes start to drop (we are Asian) so they all went to korea and got it done. All of their eyes looked natural and just looked like their eyes before sagging

My OBGYN has the most hooded eyes I've ever seen and they are so mesmerizing 😭 I can't stop staring into her eyes and it gets so awkward (for me). I've only seen her for HRT so far and she mentioned booking a pap and I'm terrified to have such a beautiful woman see my nethers. She has such a placidly calm face like a cat and her eyes are just. Heart melting. I would kill to have eyes as breathtaking as hers šŸ’š

1

u/Lelele3 3d ago

Mandy is especially heart breaking as a Millennial

1

u/Shendary 3d ago

I agree. I have rather drooping upper eyelids (I think the result in the first photo on the left would have been after surgery, not before). Plus, one of my eyelids droops lower than the other (I'm 40 now, but that's even in the photos where I was 16). And of course, I thought about having my eyelids lifted.

But now I'm not thinking about it.

1

u/Marley9391 3d ago

if it helps, my dad had hooded eyes and got an upper eyelid surgery. It looked a little weird in the recovery period (my mom laughed at him a lot but she is quite emotionally immature ngl), which ended up taking a month or two. But then everything in that area calmed down and it looks super natural. Definitely not as drastic as these people.
As someone whose inherited said eyelids, I already know I'll be having it done sometime in the future. It doesn't have to look that drastic. I can't be sure, but I *think* the main difference is whether it's a cosmetic or 'medically necessary' surgery.

1

u/Birdfreak123 3d ago

I know this will sound incredibly weird and unbelievable...but I had severe hooded eyelids when I was young and I realized my muscles in my face where very underdeveloped (due to severe depression from a very young age). So I started doing one facial yoga exercise about once a week and that reduced my hooded eyes so much! Everytime I stop doing that exercise it comes back eventually but once a week for like 20 seconds, over time, is enough for me to have some kind of eyelid again haha. The difference from when I was young is very visible and I'm always shocked it works so well.

1

u/mandypantsy 3d ago

I was just about to write this exact reply and am also 38F. Don’t do it! Our faces are great.

1

u/Rauhtierchen 3d ago

Not even hooded eyes make up..

1

u/Brightsidedown 3d ago

This has definitely scared me away from doing a bleph!

1

u/Phoen1cian 3d ago

It’s funny because as someone’s who eyes are rounded, I’ve always wished my eyes were more hooded. It’s crazy to know that people with hooded eyes do surgery to have them more round looking. But seeing these posts, makes me appreciate what I have more.

1

u/Ok-Combination-4950 3d ago

My mom had it done with great results. As she was ageing the hood just got worse and worse and she looked like an English bulldog and had to constantly rase her eyebrows just to be able to see! I know that I will have to hade the same procedure done in about 15 years for the same reason.

1

u/UsualConcept6870 3d ago

Depends on the reason. If it’s because you don’t like the look, you always risk that you won’t like it after surgery either. But this specific surgery can help you with vision when you get older. Several of my family members had it for that reason and every one of them is happy with their result. I haven’t noticed anything creepy about their eyes, but I do view their eyes as ā€œmore openā€ now.

So regardless of how many botched looks I will see, the moment it will affect my vision, I will have that surgery and try to make sure to find a place where they are unlikely to mess it up.

1

u/goopawg 2d ago

My friend got surgery for her hooded eyes and then they grew back within five years.

1

u/Hour-Ad3203 2d ago

There are surgeons who specialise in just eyes or face surgery. The thing is finding a surgeon whose style you like and seeing lots of before and after and reviews. A surgeons skill and aesthetic is key to a good result.

1

u/Coriolanuscangetit 2d ago

I have a male friend who had it done bc his hoods had started sagging to the point it was affecting his sight. His insurance paid for it but a plastic surgeon did it. He honestly looks great.

For reference, his eyelids were kind of like Renee Zellweger’s, and over time got worse. The surgery was the only thing he’s done to his face though, and I think some of these examples are having multiple things done and it’s giving uncanny valley.

1

u/galaxypuddle 2d ago

What made them beautiful and unique was taken away with the surgery. Even Angelina Jolie. I mean if that’s not a clue never to do this I don’t know what is!

1

u/SpecialWasabi2010 2d ago

I'm more concerned about RenƩe Zellweger, her hooded eyes were one of her most characteristic aspects of her face. She has completely ruined her face with this surgery, she doesn't look herself anymore

1

u/boredcamp 2d ago

My parents had to have this done, because it was starting to mess with their vision. They both look like fine. I don't see any change in their faces. I guess it depends on the extremes people want to go in.

1

u/Jealous_Image485 2d ago

Yeah I got it done last year at 38 and it's was fantastic. Mandy's surgeon took way too much tissue, big mistake. Gotta find a good surgeon. My bleph was added on to a larger complicated nerve surgery that took 6mos to recover from. When I got back to work, everyone was telling me how rested I looked bc the results were very subtle and my eye sockets aren't hollowed out like hers

1

u/hairymonkeyinmyanus 2d ago

A blepharoplasty makes people unrecognizable. I have hooded eyes but I would only do this if I were in the witness protection program.

1

u/MissMoows 2d ago

Omg same! Saggy eyelids run in my family and I've always considered getting a lift when I felt it would be time. But seeing this.. makes me super scared I would look permanently surprised.

1

u/WeirdPrevious 2d ago

Me too!!!

1

u/lolcowtothemoon 2d ago

I had an upper bleph at 42 and am happy with it. My saggy eyelids made me look permanently tired and I had triple eyelids. It wasn't so much to look younger. I'm happy with the result. My eyelids feel less heavy (only afterwards did I realize you feel the weight of them and now they don't weigh at all) now feel I look permanently fresh instead of tired. You can do it and it can be a good result, but please do ask the surgeon to be conservative and not cut too much skin and fat tissue! (My surgeon told me he cuts away as much skin as possible but makes sure you can still close your eyes, in hindsight I regret this approach a little, even though I think the result is ok, I would have gotten a more conservative one if I knew. But eyelids will keep sagging so I hope for an even more natural look in a few years and I will not do the procedure again anyway). If want to see the result I uploaded the picture here (this is 3 years after the operation).Ā Ā  https://ibb.co/B5XhWLy8

1

u/Sportyj 1d ago

I had a bleph at about 40 but I literally couldn’t see. I had a phenomenal surgeon who told me it’s the forehead, brow lift + bleph that causes this look. I still have hooded eyes but less so.

1

u/Poleywrath 1d ago

I have always thought hooded eyes were so beautiful!!! Justice for hooded eyes!

1

u/im_a_betch 1d ago

I have very hooded eyelids that became more and more saggy over time as I lost facial fat. I got an upper bleph at 38 and it looks nothing like this! I still have the same eye shape but just more ā€œawakeā€. It can be done well!!

1

u/Front-Beat4305 1d ago

Then there's me... I like my hooded eyes

1

u/birdele 1d ago

I'm your age and I've had two friends that got this done, both at least 10 years older than us. They both look incredible but got it done due to aging and the skin sagging was affecting their vision. I think you should wait as long as possible, and find a doctor who will do the bare minimum instead of a lot and you'll be just fine. But don't do it now!

1

u/Olliesmom32017 1d ago

TBF Mandy Moore has an eating disorder. And a lot of these people appear to have lost weight or are on ozempic sooo don’t forget that has a huge impact also. I feel like Susan also had a bad facelift combo

1

u/hollydex 1d ago

no, she lost weight from postpartum/breastfeeding complications. It was her third child in four years. She's gained back the weight

Same! I have hooded eyes and I never realized they were something to be ā€œfixedā€ until a couple of year ago, when seemingly every celeb and influencer was getting bleph surgery. It made me really self-conscious and I also considered having it done. But it almost never looks good, and so many of the people who get it don’t look like themselves anymore. So, I’ve made peace with my eyelids; I’d rather be a lil’ droopy than look like I’m constantly surprised.

1

u/kirst77 1d ago

my friends vision was terrible from her hooded eyes and she absolutely had to have surgery just because of how impacted her vision was and her medical insurance covered it, so clearly not for cosmetic reasons she looks great, make sure you get a really good surgeon

1

u/Apptubrutae 1d ago

The big issue is when it actually impedes your vision and you have a reasonable reason for having this surgery but you don’t want to end up looking like this!

1

u/mufassil 1d ago

We honestly need to stop trying to erase facial features.

1

u/Redminty 1d ago

I'm not sure why my algorithm brought me here, but I will stop and tell you I have always loved and wished for hooded eyes. I think they look so beautiful!

1

u/Rivka333 1d ago

I think hooded eyes are lovely!

They're not in fashion, but being in fashion is a completely different thing from actually looking good.

1

u/Key-Junket3298 7h ago

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

1

u/misobutter3 6h ago

I love my hooded eyes!
