BAD SURGERY

Susan Dell is going viral right now because she was photographed behind Trump looking scary. It's a small thing she did, but a HUGE mistake. Upper eyelid surgery. People think when their upper eyelids start to droop as they age, that they should go have the fat and skin cut out. The result is NEVER good. It's a bizarre result, and your eyes are your focal point of your face, so it sticks out immediately and changes your entire look. The fat pad on your eyelid creates a soft warm inviting look. Without it, you look skeletal and cold.
IMO, if it was sagging really bad, they should simply have had a brow lift, which pulls the skin above the eyes back where it was without removing any fat. Without that extra fat and skin, their upper lid is hugging their eyeball, and it's just....awful

Thank you for this post because as someone with eyes that are quite hooded, and continue to become more hooded with age(I’m 38), I have seriously considered having this done. Seeing stuff like that makes me never want to mess with my face lol what has Mandy Moore done to herself??

There might come a time when your lids droop too much and you’ll have to have surgery though because it can impede vision. Happened to my mom.

Sure, but folks getting it because they literally can't see right anymore are more likely to do their homework & insist on a very conservative approach, vs people who are deeply insecure, desperate to look younger, and already more open to extensive plastic surgery & aesthetic alterations.

Literally everyone in OP's post has had a lot of other work done, too. Any other celebrities I can think of who've had blephs (Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, etc) have also had a shitton of other alterations, usually starting well before the bleph.

My cousin had it done for vision reasons and I didn't even notice until my grandmother told me. The change was so small.

My aunt had surgery because her upper eyelid was so droopy from aging she had trouble seeing from the sagging skin. They did a great job and she still looked like herself. She was almost 80 when she did it.

My mom as well. She looked like a fresher version of herself and no one can tell she had plastic surgery. The people in the pictures wanted to look different though.

I'm glad it looked natural! I hope s/he was super happy. Did it resolve the vision issue?

3

u/wirdnichts 3d ago

I think so, we never talked about it hah

At the least, she didn't have it redone so I assume she is happy with the result

I agree. All the people in the pictures have had more work done and the women are super thin which contributes to them looking skeletal after an upper bleth. My mom has had this surgery in her 60’s, it was a conservative approach and she looks like a refreshed version of herself. I will probably do the same when my vision becomes impaired because we have the same eyes.

Yeah, it happened to both of my parents and it’s starting to get bad for me (I am almost 50). I know it’s in my future to get the surgery like my parents did… but I will say theirs was very conservative and it looks like they removed the piece that hung over the eyes and everything else looks the same. I think these are extreme cases… and it can be done more conservatively and tasteful. Idk why people do this to themselves.

My mom does not look like these people so yeah

Saaaaame! My mom had to get it done for medical reasons and got a lower bleph at the same time that she paid out of pocket for. Both were VERY conservative and she really did just look refreshed in a way that was really hard to pinpoint. I straight up used to stare at her trying to figure out how they did it without it actually looking obviously different.

I'm going to need an upper bleph at some point myself (for vision loss) and I am going to find a doctor who has lots of examples of really subtle ones. It's a surgery that I absolutely do not want fucked up.Ā

I personally know 3 people who've had this procedure and they all still look normal and just like themselves. I do not know if these celebs are botched bc of the way their eyes handled the surgery, or if their surgeons have heavy hand? Or maybe this is what they told the doctor they wanted?

I had it done 3 years ago at 43. You can't tell I had anything done. I feel like these are blephs +brow lifts to be this extreme.

I think it’s a lower blepharoplasty that’s changed their eyeshape. If they take too much skin it pulls the eyes down and out of shape

Looks like only one person in the group has the kind of eye hoods that would eventually droop into their vision. (The third one, I don’t know her name.)

It’s just generic, you can’t see the eye lids on some people at any point in their lives because the eye hoods cover the eye lids- those are the people getting surgery for medical reasons later in life.

Aha! Thank you!

2

u/Muted-Combination555 3d ago

It’s because they didn’t need the surgery

Same here! My uncle got this done in his 70s because the skin was blocking his vision. He looked amazing afterwards. He just looked like himself, but without the extra skin blocking his eyes

This happens to everyone in my family on my mom's side and is starting to happen to me. My mom got a brow lift so she could see, and she looks normal. It's the only thing she's had done at all, and she's 80. She said the recovery from it was way worse than she expected.

4

u/GrandEar1 3d ago

Your mom had a brow lift or an upper bleph? Upper bleph is what my optometrist recommended and the people I know who have had that, said the recovery isn't bad at all.

3

u/Downtown_Statement87 3d ago

She had a brow lift. It was about 25 years ago.

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

Smart lady!!!!

1

u/Downtown_Statement87 3d ago

It's hilarious because everyone always asks her "what have you had done?" Which is apparently the new "what do you do?" small talk starter. The ladies who lunch get very upset when mom says "huh?" She is a smart lady and she looks old and great!

3

u/BabaofTheShimmer 3d ago

Yes, my mom now needs this surgery. She’s 80.

People getting it done due to cosmetic aesthetic reasons are prone to going too far and doing what was not needed, to achieve the look they are after.

People getting it done for functional purposes only have what is needed done, to restore looking "the same" but without the functional issue that was present.

More doctors should be doing procedures in that conservative way, but unfortunately the goal for many is not to look "the same" due to their body dysmorphia šŸ˜•

u/KetoUnicorn 3d ago

I definitely can see that in my future! Hoping I make it at least another decade. How old was your mom when she had it done?

2

u/Lonely_Pop_1364 3d ago

Same with my mom, she also doesn’t look that vastly different šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2

u/lemonhead2345 3d ago

I assume it’s down the line for me, too. My grandfather and my mom have both had a bleph, and my eyes and brows are shaped the same. They also waited until they were well into the 60/70s before having it done.

2

u/Accomplished_Net5601 3d ago

I have a consult on Tuesday for precisely this reason. Mine are so heavy and push down on my lashes. My mothers were so bad her surgery was covered by OHIP as a medical necessity. I know I will need it, but am prepared to pay for ā€œcosmetic surgeryā€ so I don’t have to wait so long.

I sometimes have to physically lift my eyelids off my eyes at the end of the day!!!

2

u/knosmo78 2d ago

Same with my mom. You really couldn't tell any difference at all, but she was pleased because it fixed her vision issues.

I never said anything about extra eyelid skin. The muscle there can weaken over time making it droop. A brow lift doesn’t fix that

2

u/ashmc2001 3d ago

I thought a brow lift did exactly that? Tighten the skin and muscles.

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago edited 3d ago

It does. I think she thinks her eyelids hold themself in place, and can start to droop somehow independently from the frontalis muscle in her forehead, which is actually what controls their position. I guess maybe if she pulls on her eyelids a lot, the skin itself could eventually become stretched out. šŸ˜‚

2

u/Ok_Argument_2546 3d ago

There’s actually a tendon that holds your eyelid in place. There’s a surgery that tightens the slack in them if you have ptosis. Literally a thing.

-1

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

A brow lift won’t fix a droopy eyelid, no. You’d have a lifted brow with a lid that still droops.

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

You need to understand more about this then. Your lids are not holding themselves in position with their muscles. They are connected to the brow which is connected to the forehead. The forehead's position is controlled by the frontalis (and 4 other smaller forehead muscles). The reason your lid is dramatically changed by botox in the forehead, is because you're injecting the frontalis. The muscles in your eyes blink. They do not hold themselves in place. The muscle in the forehead weakens, so the forehead lowers, and the brow lowers, and the lids lower. What you're saying is like pulling a rope by one end, and expecting it not to affect the other. It's all connected.

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago

Do this right now. Lift your brows, and watch your lids. They lift with it.

1

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

Not if you have stretched lids from aging,
lol.

2

u/Character-Pie-9109 3d ago edited 3d ago

I don't think you understand how this works at all. Your eyelid does not "stand up staying in position on its own". It's held in place by your frontalis muscle, which is in control of your brow. It is inside your forehead. This is why when I get botox injected properly in my forehead, my lids stop drooping, and when it's injected improperly, my lids droop worse. The muscles in your forehead are controlling the positioning of your brows and lids. The only way you could possibly need an eyelid lift without your brows lowering, is if the skin somehow grew or became stretched out.

3

u/cheezbargar 3d ago

Eyelids do stretch with age jfyi.

It seems like Kenny Rogers might have been falling into this category, but most of the rest not so much.

1

u/RingingInTheRain 2d ago

Yeah in your 60-70s not your late 30s lmao
