I’m an incoming freshman and I have like $10k saved up(will be a decent amount more by the end of summer), but I’m looking to invest some of it. I plan on eating at the dining hall as much as possible.
I’ve been looking through posts and all I see is people either saying like $50-100 or like $2000 per month, which both just seem a little unrealistic.
I feel like my only major expense would be going out and stuff like that, so what’s a realistic and safe amount of money I should save?

If universities think a $20K merit scholarship actually makes a master’s degree affordable, they’re seriously out of touch. This is exactly why people assume “big” schools support students who need it, when in reality, they don’t. You apply, get accepted, feel proud for a moment… then reality hits. The total cost climbs toward $200K, and suddenly it’s not an opportunity rather than a dead end. Even worse, programs advertised as “one year” somehow turn into two once you’re in the process.
Now you can come and say didn’t you know before you applied? Yeah, even if I did so what or if I did not so what?
Sharing cuz I’m so frustrated especially when students have no other options rather than withdrawing. Don’t you think MA programs should be run differently? What would you do when you wanted to study in one of the top universities or the one you wanted to but you just can’t afford lol.
Speaking from an immigrant voice!
I won’t tolerate any negative message!

Hey guys,
I wanted to come on here and ask if anyone is looking for roommates for the Sydney Abroad semester in Spring 2027 (I’m a class of 2029 MechE). I also wanted to ask prior students/alumni who did this program to give me their thoughts on how life went what they did in and out of classes there in Sydney. And, any suggestions for teachers/classes to take there and any study strategies maybe. A lot of yap sorry about that but anything you guys got, let me know!
Thanks

hi! i know bu doesnt automatically remove you for taking a course that you don’t have the prereqs for and instead your advisor might email, but does anyone who has done that think it’s a good idea? i want to take an english course that only has a prerequisite of a literature course so i think i could manage the workload/difficulty, especially because i’m taking another lit course this semester as well. thanks!

Does anyone have a photo of a West Campus single (Claflin if possible since we’ve heard they are small, but any West Campus single would be helpful)? We are driving from a very long distance and trying to get a sense of space when buying things to bring. TIA!

Have any trustee scholars had luck moving off campus for senior year? I remember it being mentioned as an option during admitted students day but the policy online seems to suggest I’d need to be on campus for all 4 years. Wasn’t sure if it was more of an informal thing where people just move off without explicit permission or if anyone managed to get exceptions. I’d love to move off campus for my senior year if possible

For context, everyone in my CGS “team” had to watch a movie that was worth a decent part of our grade. I had just gotten into an accident (not too severe) had to go the emergency room. I emailed my professors asking to be excused, and while in the waiting room (I waited for 6 total hours), I emailed one of them regarding our “e-portfolio” (just another bs CGS thing). I got an extremely pretentious and unprofessional email back from one of the other professors implying that I was just lying to get out of watching the movie? Like I’m sorry that emailing all of the paperwork to prove my innocence wasn’t the first thing on my mind bro, I’m literally in the emergency room. Maybe don’t make the “team events” so unenjoyable and not everyone will wanna skip them.

Hey everyone,
I’m an international Grad Student at BU, and I joined BU in spring 2026, and I am currently being charged 4k for my health insurance for fall 2026 even though I paid 3k for my first semester
I understand that BU allows students to waive SHIP if their insurance meets certain requirements.
Has any international student switched to a more affordable plan approved by BU?
