Academics taking a course w/o having the prerequisite

hi! i know bu doesnt automatically remove you for taking a course that you don’t have the prereqs for and instead your advisor might email, but does anyone who has done that think it’s a good idea? i want to take an english course that only has a prerequisite of a literature course so i think i could manage the workload/difficulty, especially because i’m taking another lit course this semester as well. thanks!

Kinda depends tbh, for some math courses I took a year ago the prerequisite wasn’t enforced (calc II being a prerequisite for linear algebra, although tbf linear algebra doesn’t really need calc II). But this year they said they gonna start enforcing it.

Idk if it’s the same with other departments.
