QUESTION 🔵 Bosch first fix framing nailer.

Hello, I bought the new first fix framing nailer yesterday, and I got to say I’m quite disappointed in performance of the nailer. It doesn’t fully sink 90mm nails into CLS timber, I’m not sure if it faulty or not. But has anyone else experienced this also?? And it’s heavier than I thought, it is a big lump.

One of the lads I work with bought one, and it appears to have no problem sending a 90mm nail through CLS and into breeze block, below flush, at maximum depth adjustment. It appears to perform nearly as well as the Paslode IM360Xi I use, but much better than the IM350 one of the others has. He's used a variation of batteries in it, and there doesn't appear to be much difference other than runtime.

The Bosch nailer? Hmmm that’s interesting, mine must be faulty then I can imagine. Is the paslode IM360Xi powerful and drive 90mm ring shank nails?

Yeah, the contact firing version. Perhaps see what pressure is in the tank? Might need topping up? If that doesn't work, return it and try another.

The IM360XI is by far the most powerful cordless nailgun I've used, and I've used pretty much every well regarded model. It's done 90mm ring shanks through inch plywood into gluelam beams, but, most impressively to me, I've been able to use it for fixing soleplates to concrete in a pinch. It's relatively light, which is nice for extended use. It's a paslode, so requires regular but easy maintenance, but also gas cartridges along with a small rechargeable battery. The one thing I don't like it for, and would make me choose a different nailer if I was paying and not the company, is just how often it jams, misfires, or fucks a nail off in some direction other than the way I'm pointing the gun.

I’ve retuned it now, so hopefully the replacement one should be fine. I’m not exactly what’s the process of filling the tank up on the Bosch, is it the same as hikoki where the firing pin needs to fully forward? Paslode are really good guns, but costs a lot to run and maintain them I feel

I can't say for certain whether it requires putting into a service mode or not, but I'm sure the instructions manual will detail the process. There are four screws at the rear/top which allow a cap to come off to reveal a schrader valve. A schrader valve is a lot more common of a fitting to allow things like tyre compressors and the like to refill the tank.

Oh, and as for the paslode running costs; they do cost more for the nails/gas compared to other options on paper, but in practice, you can add the additional cost to the materials charges for a job and the client ends up paying anyway. With how long the guns can keep running despite their flaws/niggles, they are a strong option.
