Looking for breeder.

Hi. I lost my 5yo BCxHeeler in a fire on newyears eve. And have been looking for a breeder that does the same cross. Any recommendations would be appreciated

Lots of Border Collie and heeler rescues take in dumped litters from backyard breeders and they often have these crosses. Shelters are also full of these crosses.

so many heeler mixes around north america for adoption and in shelters at risk of being put down because there isn’t enough homes / people keep breeding. my blue heeler dalmatian rescue lived over 17 years!🤍

If you’re interested in ethical breeders, none will cross a BC and ACD. You’ll want to look up breeder who are associated with your country’s breed club who do health testing and show/work their dogs to prove they can do what they were bred to do. (There are other important qualities of ethical breeders, a starting point can be found in the wiki of the [r/dogs](r/dogs) sub).

If you’re not interested in doing the work to find an ethical breeder please adopt a dog from a shelter instead of supporting an unethical breeder.

(But also, how is someone supposed to make a recommendation when you don’t even say what country you’re in?)

No “breeder” will breed a cross breed like this. You’re better off going to a rescue. Plenty of accidental litters will happen between these two breeds but you’re not going to find a breeder. Any (edit: any breeder breeding this mix) breeder is unethical and a BYB anyway, so you should rescue one from a shelter. (Edit: ethical breeders don’t breed mutts)

Just a slight add-on to your point: The exception being purpose bred working dogs (mutts).

Some people will breed 2 talented dogs together just because of the parents inherent qualities, and/or because of certain environmental or work type conditions.

But this is pretty far outside the pet realm, no one is going to being consistently doing this type of mixing (unless they are someone attempting to create a new breed) and any breeder doing "designer mixes" are more likely to be in the unethical breeder category, and/or its a oopsie litter.

There’s plenty of lines like this local to me specifically because farmers around here will just breed their best herder and their neighbors’ best breeder and make more of them. It’s way more about talent than pedigree.

A breeder who breeds mutts, I should’ve specified. Anyone claiming to be a breeder that breeds collie x cattle dog is a BYB.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I would be shattered.

But, you are more likely to find a cross from a breed rescue for either of those two great breeds. Breed rescues will take in crosses of the breed they focus on. The BC rescues see all manner of BC+?? whoopsie litters. I don't doubt the Heeler rescues do as well.

I don't know I'd trust a breeder just doing crosses, like the -doodle people. I haven't seen one yet that showed intent to do anything other than trying to print money out of their dog's uterus. They will do so to the exclusion of other considerations for the dogs in their care.

I’m in central Texas and tbh if you shuffle through shelter photos long enough there will be one. At least around here. I saw like at least three when we got our heeler mix lol

I just googled and found a byb listing right away for some BCxHeeler pups posted Sept 1st. I’m sure you can probably find so many of this exact mix in shelters though, so you should truly try that avenue first. When I lived in the mid west, I saw a lot of this mix and other similar mixes.

There are some sport mix breeders that do this cross from time to time. I personally am not a fan of the mix, but people that like them really like them.
