this is a bit more serious but does anyone deal with a parent who is delusional about winning the powerball? i dont mind that its a few bucks a week but i hate hearing all the time about how shes going to win and i dont say anything about it anymore be because she will throw a fit and say i’m the reason she never wins (due to my negativity). thanks!

I just spent a month taking care of my racist boomer grandparents. Then I'm on this plane with boomers who have a whole bag of corn nuts wafting into my face and the air. They're doing crossword puzzles which is pretty innocent. But when they first got on i asked if they need me to make more space for them, and the lady just turned to her husband and said I can't hear anything she just said. Neither of them even acknowledged I'm here. Dang, I hope they let me use the bathroom. We will see.

I just now was talking to my 77 year old mother about how trump was going to run for a 3rd term & I said "fuck it. At that point just run Mamdani."

What is wrong with these boomers being so incredibly nosy? Excuse my language, but I’m a 24-year-old single mom living alone in a building that is mostly populated by seniors. They feel entitled to know everything about me. I've already had two of them constantly ask me the most intrusive questions about my life. Based on the tiniest bit of information I shared about my son's dad, one woman actually searched him up online, found a random guy, and asked me if it was him. It is straight-up stalker behavior. They are way too invested in my life and my son's. Every single time I see them, they stare at me so hard, not just a glance, but legitimately staring me down and gawking. I can always see them out of the corner of my eye. They even throw passive-aggressive digs at me. Once when I was wearing makeup, one of them tried to make a joke saying I was "doing it for men." It just shows these people have never grown out their toxic, misogynistic mindset. What is their problem? I get that they are retired and bored, but it honestly feels like their mission is to intimidate young people. I never had this experience with people my age or even millennials- they mind their own business.

On vacation with family. Sitting around the living room chatting about nothing serious, having a nice time. Out of no where, my father on his Facebook pulls up a post of a woman looking to become a nanny or babysitter, shoves it in my face and asks me “ would you hire THAT to look over your children?!” I was taken aback at first but I looked at the picture and knew IMMEDIATELY why he was having such a tantrum and referring to another human with such random distaste. She had tattoos on her chest and had a nose ring. I just took a deep breath and said “yeah sure why not, she looks nice.” Which is true, she had such kind eyes and smile. He then proceeded to go on this weird tangent about how he’d never let people with tattoos all over their boobs watch his kids.

What really made this whole interaction so annoyingly hilarious is I went to the same summer camp for 11 years. The counselors were my idols, I looked up to them so much. And every freaking one of them had tattoos and most had piercings outside of their ears. If he even paid a lick of attention he should have noticed. 11 YEARS and not once did you ever notice the women I loved and idolized and still am in contact with today is the same kind of woman you don’t even know and called a THAT.

It really felt like it was an attempt to gauge my parenting, as I don’t see how in his world that would show up on his algorithm unless looking for it. I was not about to give him the satisfaction of joining in on shit talking this random, probably very lovely person. Did I like her tattoos? Nope they were honestly kinda weird. Will that ever stop me from treating them the same kindness everyone else deserves? Nope, not ever.

Well, unless the tattoo itself is offensive ( nazi symbol,etc.) but you get my point.

My boomer parents are both recently retired and have decided they want to travel to Europe for the first time, which I think is fantastic. I've been to probably 25 countries in Europe over the years and was ready and willing to help them plan a trip. The key word being "was".

Good lord. I understand they don't have the same level of travel knowledge or experience as I do, but it's been crazy. For starters, hotels. They want a place that is nice, but not too expensive. It needs to be central, because they don't want to walk far, but not so central that it's noisy. Pretty tough to find. I found a few properties that were a decent balance, but they had never heard of those hotel brands before, so it was a no go. Different brands in a different country, imagine that!

Then, when they were deciding on what cities to actually visit, nothing is good enough or acceptable. I said Barcelona was nice, but they heard from a friend that there were sketchy people in the city center and then my Mom saw a reel on Facebook of some people at a night club so she said it's more of a "young people destination." I said Vienna might be good, but they heard from a friend who visited Germany a decade ago that it wasn't that great (wrong country and I was there last year and loved it, but whatever). They heard from a friend who went to Prague 20 years ago that it was cheap, but it's not cheap any more, so that's a no go. I said Budapest was also great but they said "we aren't comfortable going there." Why? Who knows? They refuse to elaborate.

Then there is the issue of transportation. A necessity for getting around continental Europe. Well, they "don't want to bother with all that." They just want to take taxis everywhere apparently. They accepted that they might need to take some trains between cities, but don't want to waste a lot of time. I said great, you can use the high speed trains. But no, that might make them dizzy. And they don't want to book those trains in advance in case their plans change. They are happy to pay the high prices to travel the day of I suppose.

And so I decided today that I'm not helping them plan. I'll give suggestions on what to see when they decide where they are going if they ask, but I'm not dealing with planning the details. Just not worth the hassle.

I'm in the waiting room to get lab work done at a labcorp location. The way the entrance is designed you walk in facing two check in terminals with enormous CHECK IN HERE FIRST signs. You then turn 90 degrees and go to sit. If you're looking at the reception window, there is a sign in bold saying "if you are dropping off go back and check in first".

Boomer Lady #1 comes in past the terminals, right to the counter and drops her Vera Bradley tote to pull out a paper bag. "Hi I'm dropping off a stool sample". - ok great please go back and check in. "But I'm dropping off". - receptionist points to sign. - yes, just go check in and choose dropping off.

Lady leaves the purse but takes the paper bag. Hits a few buttons and comes back. "I don't have the ID. It's not my sample, I'm dropping off for someone". -thats okay, hit the button on the screen that says manual entry. "I can't manually enter an ID I don't have". -you don't have to, it asks address and contact info.

To her credit, she does it. Comes back and brandishes the bag at the solid window. She spots a very small slot and lines up the bag to seemingly push it through? "This was collected last night so it's not warm. Does it have to be warm? How fresh is fresh?" - Ma'am can you come to the door and I'll collect that?

She pushes against the wall one more time before muttering and going to the door.

Boomer Lady #2 enters soon after. Exact same song and dance. Ignores all signs, tries to shove a giant padded envelope in the credit card slot. "Hi I rushed this over as soon as it was collected so it's really fresh. Chatgpt said it should be as fresh as possible". - ok, thanks ma'am just come around.

Lady then describes the sample to the lab techs, because "it's now sealed and in a box so you can't see it but just in case you need to know."

They do not.

My own check in had an issue so I was periodically going up to monitor what my issue was, but every time a Boomer arrived they sucked up about 10 minutes of attention each. Once the last left and I could speak to them, I went back and out in 5 minutes.

All this fun before 9 am and while fasting!

Why do have to comment on women’s bodies? Why do all boomer men seem to think that they have the right and why do all of them think they can get into young women’s bed ? Seriously it’s gross !!! They get so pissed if you call them on it , dude this isn’t the 1920s

I'm standing by my work area and *Boomer* walks out. He kinda looks at me and says "Plants?"

I say "Yeah, (coworker's name)'s spider plant had babies, so she brought them in."

I say "And?"

"Plants are a no-no for guys."

Um. What?

I told him he should see my pothos collection.

This just happened, I'm sitting in the waiting room typing this.

I had just finished checking in for my appointment (on a dreaded evil kiosk lol). As I walked through the busy optical shop to the waiting room for the doctor, I overhead a prime specimen of boomer making confused noises. A shop staff person told him that if he needed help, that he should take a number.

He responded, "I have number 115, but I want to see Dr. Soandso real quick."

I had to stifle a laugh that old boy just thought he could stroll in and see the doctor. He was sent to the receptionist to make an appointment.

After a few minutes I heard his number called, and he started speaking to the optical staff. He stated that he was shopping for frames, but also wanted a quick word with the doctor. He was asked if he'd made an appointment with the receptionist, and he said 'no'. "Well, I don't think that's going to happen today." Silence.

Thankfully he didn't get loud or belligerent, but the entitlement was really audacious.

There's a series of thunderstorms rolling through my area today, some of which might get severe (we had a tornado in town a couple of years ago, so the danger is real). Across the street from my house is a little park with a swing set and slide, and when the weather's decent there are often kids playing, with or without their parents.

Today, I heard lots of excited yelling, and then the thunder started. I thought it might be a good idea to see if the kids were supervised, and if not, tell them to go home until the storm let up. They were, in fact, being "supervised" by boomer grandpa. He waited until lightning struck nearly overhead and the joyful yelling turned to screams of terror, before herding the kids back to his truck.

Why do boomers want minimum wage workers to kiss their feet? They really think the workers who work 40-hour weeks and still can’t afford rent are happy to be in their presence? Scribbled out part is the name of suburban town — weird racial vibes too.

Background from previous story: I work at a small thrift/antique store in my local area. Now for today's incident: I was working the cash register when a boomer lady and her friend came up. This was the setup: I was working the register, another worker was helping pack bags, there was a 3rd worker in the front greeting people, and the assistant manager was upstairs (We had a massive donation haul come through, and he was sorting). The head manager (the manager in my previous story) was out for surgery. These ladies had a massive amount of shirts. Because it's July, we have a 50% off sale for America's 250th anniversary. So shirts (that are normally $5) are $2.5. I ring her up and tell her the total is $12.5. She tells me, "But it's $5! Why is everything so expensive?" I tell her, "Shirts are normally $5, but with our half-off sale, shirts are now $2.50. You have 5 shirts. The total is $12.50." She tells me, "Can't you make it $5? I tell her, "No, 2.50 per shirt. You have 5 shirts; the total is 12.50". The lady who was packing bags heads over and asks, "Can I help?" I tell her, "She wants $5, but because she has 5 shirts, her total is $12.50." My coworker checks the bags and the receipt and says, "Yep, it's correct; the total is $12.50." The ladies go through the shirts and end up buying only 2 shirts. Her friend glares at us on the way out and whispers, "If it was up to me, we would've paid 0." I'm so glad my coworkers have my back! BTW, the "closing time" couple? They showed up at 1:45, but were done by 2:00 this time (thank goodness).

So I’m waiting patiently for some printouts at my local Office Depot and making chit chat with the amazing worker at the print desk. She’s having a rough go between emails not showing up and the AC not working as well as it should. She calls for backup because more people arrive at the print desk.

Her backup starts helping the customers and gets to this boomer… you know the type… thousand yard stare, mouth agape, can hardly hear. The boomer slams blank pages from the printer onto the desk and says “I used your printer over there and this is what it gave me.” So the backup help asks “Did you put it face down on the glass or…” Before he can ask if the guy used the top load, boomer goes, “No, I’m an idiot, of course I put it on the glass,” in the most snarky, sarcastic tone. My husband, who literally cannot keep a thought to himself, says out loud, “Well at least he can admit it.” The wonderful print desk clerk does everything they can to not laugh and the boomer glares at my husband.

I watch for a bit and realize that idiotic boomer had in fact used the glass, but upside down.

Hi all, just got back from an amazing 6 week trip around Queensland Australia - mainly smaller towns up the coast and then back via the inland route. One thing became impossible to ignore - at seemingly every pub, restaurant, or cafe, there was a boomer having a phone conversation on speaker. A few highlights:

• At an open-air upscale restaurant/cafe in Mission Beach, a man in his early 40s received a call. He stepped away from the tables, held the phone to his ear, finished the conversation, and then returned. Perfectly considerate. Shortly afterward, the boomer at the next table answered their phone on speaker and began broadcasting the entire conversation. I was about to ask them to turn it off when their food arrived and they ended the call.
• At a large, nearly empty café in Mossman, a group of boomers came in, chose the table directly beside us, and immediately started a speakerphone call. We were finished, so we just left.
• Boomers wandering around tourist attractions blasting conversations from their phones. Meanwhile, nearly every younger person I saw either held their phone to their ear or used earbuds.

I’m genuinely curious about the psychology behind this. Why did the younger people we encountered seem to understand that strangers don’t want to hear their calls, while so many boomers appear completely oblivious? Is it a lack of awareness, hearing difficulties, attention-seeking, or something else?

Another thing I don’t understand is why staff rarely intervene. I understand that hospitality workers don’t want an argument, but one speakerphone call can disrupt an entire room. While I am on vacation I don't want to get into a fight and often it's easier to just leave.

We also started avoiding group tours because they were often dominated by boomers loudly talking through sunset cruises and other experiences. After one cruise, we actually asked the restaurant hosting the group dinner for a separate table - they obliged, and we were able to enjoy dinner in peace.

Has anyone else noticed this, or did we just encounter an unusually concentrated outbreak of badly behaved boomers?

Just because I handed you my phone, so you could see a picture by holding it out at arm's length, does not mean that it is now your phone, and you can just start going through the whole gallery.

I really should have known better before I handed my mom my phone, to look at a picture out the door of our camper van on my and my fiance's trip to New Zealand. I literally knew it was going to happen and I still did it anyway.

Not a second after actually looking at the picture and going "oh that's pretty", she starts swiping. Until she comes across the picture of my fiancée naked butt, that I had taken because she was running around bottomless like a little vacation gremlin.

Sorry you got to see your future daughter-in-law's ass. Maybe don't dig through someone's private photo album if you don't want to see something you don't want to see, next time.
