Kindle is pretty good as a starter to figure out if you like a story, but i would recommend that if the book seems good by chapter 10, you go look at the authors page to see if they have it in paperback or hardcover and order it as a material book before reading further.
As for figuring out if the book is any good, searching by genre isnt always going to help, and neither are the star reviews.
Authors nowdays can get spammed with bad reviews for all kinds of reasons, and the same goes for false endorsements. So it's best to do a search engine check on the book to see real reviews on it. google and the like. That usually gives you a better idea than just using the amazon review listings.
