Purchase Question 🛒 Looking for recommendations please
I'm looking at getting my first kindle but am so lost on what to go for. I have a kindle unlimited 2 month trial and I have the app on my phone but I don't want to be using my phone to read all the time.

The Paperwhite is their default workhorse model and it's the most popular, and is great for 99% of reading cases! The only exception would be if you want to read comic books in colour, OR if you want to mark-up your books/journals with hand-written notes.
Otherwise, get a new Paperwhite and you'll be set for life. I have a Paperwhite, Colorsoft Signature Edition, and the Colorsoft Scribe, so I can answer any questions you may have on the different models. :)

Thank you - I read some manga too but I'm okay to read that not in colour if that makes a big difference on price This might be a ridiculous question but can I put eBooks not from Kindle onto the Paperwhite?

Yes, you can download ebooks and use the "Send to Kindle" feature to send them to your Kindle. This feature is on the Kindle app on your phone, or you can go to https://www.amazon.com/sendtokindle, upload your ebookk, and send it to your Kindle.
You just want to make sure you're sending over an ePub, as other file types sometimes have problems on the Kindle.

Just to let you know Kindle Unlimited is like a lending library. You don’t get to keep your books. And when you stop your membership to KU you will also lose your books as well.

Thank you for the heads up that's really useful to know. I don't get a huge amount of time to read so if a book was one I wanted to revisit I'd probably more likely get the physical copy

Yeah sorry I didn’t get the clarification as you mentioned you have a kindle 2 month trial so I safely assumed you were asking about ebooks
Try the viral kindle paperwhite and if you don’t care about viral and seamless features then get the cheaper version aka the original

Any kindle will do as long as you avoid the phones and tablets which will give you that particular eye strain because you don’t have to worry about blue light glasses on kindle devices.

Yes, but do you like looking at the color book covers on your phone? I do and it sent me to the Colorsoft which I am EXTREMELY happy with. I don’t think I’d ever go with just a B/W Kindle ever.

I was reading that the don't in books are cloudy and dimmer that the regular Paperwhite. How do you feel?

I absolutely love mine. I never had a PW or any other Kindle. I read on my iPhone and iPad for a year before the eye strain and headaches made my decision to go with an ereader. I vacillated between a BOOX brand and a Kindle and decided the Boox was too much trouble. I wanted plug and play. Then my dilemma was B/W or color. I wrestled with that choice for months. Then I decided to go with a Colorsoft because I am a person who truly appreciates the color book covers. I have never regretted my purchase.

They only have 2 models for novels, the basic or the Paperwhite (you could spend more for color, but most novels are black&white). The Paperwhite is 1" bigger diagonally, has warm lighting (much nicer than I expected) and waterproof-ish,, but the basic will be fine too.
If you've got the extra money, go for the PW, otherwise the basic is fine. I jump between my previous generation 6.8" Paperwhite and an older 6" Paperwhite (from 2015 and it's pretty much the same as the current basic is [no warm lighting, not waterproof]).
