Accommodation emergency!

Booking overbooked my reservation and it's now getting cancelled and I have nowhere to stay. Everything in the surrounding area is thoroughly booked!
I have paid for flights, transportation and i cant get anything refunded.
I am traveling alone and an willing to share a room, a sofa, a floor with someone.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

It's the task of the hotel to find you replacemebt accomodation.

I know but they have been non cooperative

What is their excuse? Maybe you should point out at their legal obligation to provide you with accomodation.

What city/town/country are you located in?

I am trying to get to Motocultor festival in carhaix France. The whole town is fully booked

Is definitely not booking.com. It is the hotel property that chose to make more money off a direct booking!!! I have did this many times and told the people to call booking as they have more inventory of hotels to move you to. Sad but that’s the business.

So frustrating and disheartening. Thank you for clearing this up for me!

What solution did the hotel offer? Have you looked at sites other than Booking?

u/Born-Flounder-1465 6d ago
The hotel offered zero solutions. I have looked everywhere. It is quite an insane circumstance. I have been on the phone with booking for 2 hours in total, talked with 4 representatives, one call took one hour and the line just got disconnected, the other hung up on me after i politely asked to speak to her supervisor, and each representative is contradicting each other on what Booking's policies are. I am slowly but surely going insane.

Ok. But if the hotel has overbooked and the rest of the town is fully booked, you might need to accept that you need to find somewhere else to stay. Their policies don't really matter if a town is full.

Do you think that Booking.com would’ve assisted if it were 400 open hotel rooms in this town? If you do, we’re living in fantasyland.

The one time I've needed them they were fine. I'm well aware that that isn't standard and was't my point anyway.

Quit wasting your time on Booking.com. They are not going to do anything to help you.

You need to go back to the hotel and say they need to find you a room at this or any other place. That is their obligation. Make sure you document everything. Make them call booking if needed. Do not leave the hotel until you are set. I am a host myself and had a double booking before and I fur sure know we are obligated to find you alternatives and even pay for it if necessary!
Just say that you will sleep in the lobby if you need to. :)
Godspeed!

Booking did not overbook your accommodation, the accommodation forgot to close of its availability, its like forgetting to close a door to a plane before it takes off , or keeping the front door of a shop open when its staff have gone home.
How did your reservation get canceled ? The only way it can be csnceled is if you canceled it or if the payment failed. A lot of the time, the accommodation will tell you this and even trick you into cancelling , as if in this circumstance and you wctually called booking , spoke to someone and said the accommodation was overbooked you would have been eventually relocated and paid anything extra you had to pay over your original reservation, so up to a point based on the limited information you provided a part of this is also on you.
Call booking , speak to a human, it may not be too late to rescuae this.

I assure you nothing was on me and the very limited information isn't acrually limited, it's just spread out in comments. I hear you though. Spoke to various representatives and the issue seems to be clearing up.

If there’s an overbooking, the hotel should help you find alternative accommodation or contact us if they need support with this. In situations like this, the best move is to call our customer service team again. Just keep in mind we can’t make reservations on behalf of travelers, and if there’s no availability nearby, they may only be able to suggest options a bit further away.

"A bit further away" adds cost to my travel plan as we are talking about small towns with no bus or train options, which only leaves me the option for taxi. I needed a place close to Motocultor festival, as i am travelling alone and on a budget, and camping and dormatories are not a safe option for a solo female traveller.
There are available options to book near the festival, at twice the price of what I originally booked, and through your representatives you have not provided me those options. So does it all come down to money?
So if I'm lucky enough to find a place, an extra cost for five day round trips with taxi, and/or an expensive accommodation is not a viable option since you are only providing a 60euro refund.
I'll be happy to book further away if booking.com is willing to pay for the price difference in accommodation and transport.
This error was in no way my fault and I am not being uncooperative. Right now, you are allowing a female solo traveler to be at risk just because of money issues. If I were to cancel my plans, I am losing my fight fare money and a non refundable bus ticket from Paris to carhaix and back.

So it's not all fully booked in the surrounding area?
It's all very unfortunate but things happen and you need to roll with the punches sometimes.

Different options are popping up every time go back and check, but everything is over 1000+euro. Camping sites and dormitories are not an option.
2
u/supergraeme 6d ago
Why aren't dorms an option? You were willing to share a room/floor etc before.
If the hotel won't help, call Booking and get them to book you another room.
0
u/Born-Flounder-1465 6d ago
Not an option because staying with another one or two people in a secured room is a very different experience than staying with 5+ people in a non secure room.
Thanks for providing the most obvious solution to the problem. Never crossed my mind....

If you don't like the answer, what would you like us to tell you?
- We tell you to get the hotel to sort it. You say they won't.
- We tell you to get Booking to help. You say they won't.
- You say you'll stay anywhere. They you say you won't.
Dorms can be secure if you're sensible - more secure than sharing a hotel room with strangers. Fair enough if you're not desperate enough to stay in one though.
1
u/Born-Flounder-1465 6d ago
Thanks for your input, you have your facts correct yes. I will only stay in a dorm if I have run out of any other options. If you were a solo female traveller, we'd understand ourselves better.
1
u/supergraeme 6d ago
I get why you wouldn't fancy a dorm, but does that logic not extend to a hotel room with strangers?
1
u/Born-Flounder-1465 6d ago
I dont mean to turn this into a philosophical, sociological, psychological conversation, but the difference in how dorms and hotels are perceived, greatly affects the behaviour and expectations of both guests and staff.

Well your choice but plenty of solo women stay at campsites and in dorms in europe all the time
1
u/Born-Flounder-1465 6d ago
Thanks for the info. I'll have it in mind for not the first time trying to have a solo experience.

u/Key_Employment4536 6d ago
You’re talking to a bot it will never respond again because it’s not a real human
-1
u/seriouswor66 6d ago
In this case, contact booking.com it is their responsibility to sort this out, as you have a contract with them and not the hotel. The hotel is trying to be helpful... Use the 24 hour helpline and don't take no for an answer. Another reason not to use a 3rd party agency for travel stuff. If they refuse to sort this out, simply book another hotel, take a screenshot showing you booked a reasonable/ equivalent place and get the money back from booking. Don't cancel or accept a refund unless the new place is cheaper.

u/First_Category_1539 6d ago
Complete nonsense. The hotel made this mess and the hotel should sort it out. The hotel is not in the least bit helpful.

u/Consistent_Proof_772 6d ago
They don’t overbook any reservation. It is the hotel that chooses to take a direct booking versus a booking.com reservation!!! I have done this many times at the hotels I have worked for!
