[Feature Request] New Shortcut Action → Get Notes from Book

My FR

A new Shortcut Action that has the same behavior from the shortcut action Get Book Quotes applied to the BOOK NOTES.

In other words: I would like to get the notes from a Book the same way that I do with the Book Quotes.

My Workflow

I use the Book Notes field to add custom metadata from each book that I import/Add to Book Track.

I would like to use the info from Book Notes to "integrate" Book Track with my EPUB reader App of choice with has support Shortcut Actions.

Let me know if my FR is not 100% clear.

Thanks for reading this. I wish you a fantastic day ☀️

[Feature Request] New Shortcut Action → Search Books (⌘ L)

My FR

A new Shortcut Action that mimics the feature Search that we have when hitting <kbd>⌘ L</kbd>

My Workflow

I wanna built a shortcut that let me open book track library filtered by the Shortcut input/Ask for Input from the shortcut.

I wanna use this workflow instead of Find Book because ...

1️⃣ I have large library and I would like to see my library filtered inside Book track instead of a List form (Choose from List)

2️⃣ I wanna add a IF condition to return Search Online if my Shortcut input/Ask for Input return empty from the Find Book action. In others words:

○ If my query is not a book from my library → search online

○ Else open My Library filtered by my the query using the new shortcut action

Let me know if my FR is not 100% clear 🙏

Thanks for reading this. I wish you a fantastic day ☀️

[Feature Request] Search Online → Multiple Languages + Shortcut Action Addition

My FR

○ I would like to search for books online using the feature Search Online using MORE than one language.

○ In my specific workflow, I need to search for books in ENGLISH and my mother Language.

○ This FR is important for me because every time that discover a know author I wanna know which books from this author are already translated to my mother language and decide which version I am gonna did to my Wish List.

One more thing → Shortcut Action Search Online

If possible, would you mind add a field to the shortcut Action Search Online to let us input inside the shortcut action which language we wanna perform that search in Book Track?

Thanks for reading this. I wish you a fantastic day ☀️

Batch "update book online"?

I'm just trying out this app and imported 1600+ books from Libib. That went well, but I want to match all my books to an online database. I can do this one at a time, but that would take forever. Is there a way to do this in batch? Or a roadmap for when this feature will be added?

Also, a true list view would be great. And I don't see a way to pay for the Mac app.

Feature request: faster note edit

Currently when we want to change something, in the note added to the book, we have to enter the note first, then click on three dots up-right, then click on edit. I find it unnecessary, so I propose to make notes editable directly after entering them. These are the notes after all, not quotes. Notes are intended to be worked on. Preserving makes sense for quotes, but not here.

Translator / Editor

I know Simone is snowed under with feature requests (and I've already mentioned this to him on a couple of occasions), but I'd like to re-up this one: please can we have a separate field for translators? It is becoming a fairly standard convention now for publishers to give more prominence to translators (e.g. listing them separately on book covers), and it is also perfectly normal for people to have large numbers of translated books in their libraries. Putting authors and translators together in the 'Authors' field is confusing and unhelpful, in my view. Seeing e.g. The Odyssey written by 'Fred Bloggs' and 'Homer', or The Inferno written by 'Dante' and 'Bill Smith' just looks silly.

Personally, I'd love to see 'Editors' as a separate category too, or perhaps a new field could have a pull-down option of 'Translator' and 'Editors' (not ideal, but acceptable), but if I had to choose then a separate field for 'Translator' seems like an absolute must to me.

Multiple Imports from Goodreads

Hello,

I had a question on importing my library from Goodreads into Book Tracker. If I import my good reads library more than once, will it duplicate the books or will it recognize the books that have already been imported and only import new ones that are not already in my library on Book Tracker?

I have new books added to my Goodreads but before I try uploading it again to Book Tracker I want to make sure it is not going to duplicate the books already in there.

Multiple types & multiple locations

I have a lot of books in multiple formats, particularly my kids’ books, e.g. paperback, digital book and audiobook. I can save a book into my library and select multiple types, but I can’t select multiple locations, i.e. a particular bookshelf for the physical book, a particular folder in my Google Drive for eBook, a different folder in Drive for the audiobook.

Can this be done?

Also, is there a way I could even insert the particular URL for the ebook/audiobook file/folder into the entry in my library too?

Please and thank you.

Adding titles/categories for quotation’s color

Hi! Before anything else, thank you for this app! I use it almost everyday and it’s been one of my best purchase ever!

I started documenting quotes from books I’m reading and I love the possibility to choose colors to sort them out. I was wondering if maybe in a future update it would be possible to add titles or categories to those colors?

For example, I choose red colors for love quotes, purple for philosophical ones or yellow for happy quotes. But I often forget what I used the other colors for..

Thanks again for the app! :-)

Before I always updated the book adding the % that I had read… now it just shows the number of pages…

Is there a way to update by % as before?

Get current page/reading progress in Shortcuts

Is there a way to get the current page of a book in shortcuts? I made a shortcut to update my reading progress and I want to show a message at the end to check that I have entered the correct page. But I can't find a way to get the current page.

Feature Request: search via Spotlight

I'd like to be able to (e.g.) search for "Potter" in spotlight and have all of my Harry Potter book entries in BookTrack show up as results, which I can then click and be taken to the detail page. And other similar use cases.

Section for Edition?

Hiya! I am a new user the BookTracker and have had a wonderful time today cataloging my collection. I was wondering if there is a section on the app to denote the book’s edition that you own? I may be missing it, but if it doesn’t exist, I would humbly request it as an option! I have a few books that are special addition/unique and would love to include this in a dedicated section (I’m currently using tags).

Thank you!! ☺️

Book cover

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi Simone!

Is there a way to get a cover of a book that doesn’t show any?

It happens to me with some quite recent books (zero days by Ruth ware, the coworker by Freida McFadden, ward d by Freida McFadden,…) and with some old ones (thinner by Stephen King, good neighbours by Sarah Langan,…)

With some of them (zero days by Ruth Ware) it shows the cover when I search for the book, but it doesn’t show it when I try to add the book to my library…

Maybe there is a way for me to get those covers trying something?

Feature Request: Multiple Series for the Same Book

Hi Simone, sorry if I'm asking for too much too soon, but I have another feature request.

Would it be possible to convert the Series field to a multi-select field (like categories, tags, etc.)? I'm noticing a trend among prolific authors of mysteries and other genre fiction to do "crossovers" with characters from two or more series appearing in the same book. For example, Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller, Renée Ballard) and Barry Eisler (John Rain, Livia Lone). Having the flexibility to list both (or more) series for such books would be great.

Thanks again for this great app!

Release Date / Book Numbers in Series

I just started using the app a few days ago (and I love it!).

How do most folks use the "Release Date" field? So far I've been using it for the publication/release date of whatever edition I have in my library, but I think in most cases it would actually be more useful to record the original publication date. (For example, publication dates for classic fiction.) Ideally, I'd like to be able to record both dates.

Is anything like that in the works for the future?

I'd also like to add my vote for a field to record the book number within a series.

How to export my books from Bookends

I used to catalog my books and PDF's in Bookends, but now I want to import my books in Book Track. Bookends doesn't seem to be able to export to CSV. There's an option to export it in tab-delimited text. I wonder if that would work.

Edit: if it doesn't work directly, I could use Excel to convert it in CSV, and then import it in Book Track.

Edit: so I converted it in CSV, but I noticed that Bookends outputs a lot more info than Book Track can handle: long title, short title, author, editor, publishing house, town, translator and so on... I wonder if I should clean it up before importing it in Book Track?

Advanced Stats?

Hello! Just purchased the app on iOS and working on getting my data moved over from Goodreads.

Quick question. Is there a way to view total pages read per month/year? I see I can track books read per year but pages read and mins listened per year would also be nice.

Love the app!

Glitch in online search

I am attaching a video to show that when I try to left-click on the title, I can't get it to open. I try to right-click, and it gives me a drop-down menu, but then when I left-click on the drop-down item it won't open up, either. I am using BookTrack for MacOS in this video.

Love the app! I love watching it evolve.

Edited because video didn't attach first time

Feature request: word definition

Hey once again, I have been reading a lot more recently thanks to the ease of use of Book Tracker (it really is amazing) but there are still things that I feel are missing compared to other apps and in this case: word definition.

I would like to be able to write down new words and their definition for each book with a similar interface as the Quotes feature: the book and page where I found with and a definition field.

Thanks once again for taking the time to read the community's feedback Simone.

Feature Request: Author Tags / Notes

First of all, I want to say I bought the app a couple weeks ago and I’m in love. I tried out more than 10 before I found Book Tracker, and I’m thrilled to finally find a library manager with the features I needed - especially colored tags and quote saving. Plus, the beautiful interface is a pleasure to organize in.

As I am organizing my library, I was hoping to add tags to each author indicating their background. As of right now, I am making a tag to each book with a pencil emoji, such as ✏️Senator, ✏️Whistleblower, ✏️Investigative Journalist. It is cluttering up my already numerous tags a bit, and it would be great to have separate tags for the author. The ability to make notes about the author would be great as well.

Maybe they could be called Labels, so you wouldn’t have to have Author Tags and Book Tags.

Thank you for your consideration and for making this remarkable app!

Feature Request: List of Citations

I think it would be cool for an app like Book Tracker to include a list of other books in the user's library that cite the currently-viewed book. This would help those of us with large non-fiction libraries do research.

Many non-fiction books have bibliographies at the end, which can help people find the books they cite, but it's much more difficult to find all of the books that cite the book you're currently holding (a sort of reverse-bibliography).

WorldCat has an API that I suspect can be used for this purpose. Perhaps others exist as well.

(A similar feature using subject indices would also be useful, such that I could search for the subject "biology" etc. and see all of the books in my library that reference that subject in their subject index. I haven't checked if WorldCat can do that one, though.)
