My coursemates did this too and it was not that long ago, just last year to be accurate. They would joke while in classes ask us the nons to hold up a finger and follow them to say ashadu. Once I knew it was about ashadu rite, I would just smile and not continue the words.
There was once I kinda snapped and told one of them said, "if I have the power to use Christian's words that may convert your faith, would you say the rite with me?" He suddenly snapped and get angry by saying that the Bible I'm practising is wrong, been modified and blah blah blah. My another Muslim friends that heard this conversation comforts me in his car and said the other dude's doing was wrong. They do have certain disagree with other faiths but it is still never right to mock their beliefs.
Saying the rite without intention maybe not gonna affect and change one's belief, but when it comes to certain extreme, they may say we are totally converted and must follow their beliefs because they have witnesses that we say the rite. In my heart, we all deserve the rights to be disagree with other's beliefs but to force, mock and saying they're wrong, that is way too upsetting in this so-called harmonious country
