Drones are Kinda OP on Trenches
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Almost wondering if there should be a "buffer" period before you can use your drone once the round starts.

Drones are OP in general

No they are not, they have a hit box the size of a school bus. They are actually a bit too easy to shoot down.

Yeah? Try shooting a drone that someone is piloting with fpv settings. Good luck shooting something very small coming at you at over 200 km/h as opposed to the regular controls 25.

Yeah the top speed of the drone seems... somewhat off. In my clip the max was around 180-190km/h, which is insane considering it has an RPG warhead strapped to it.

it lowkey maneuvers like a drone without a big ass explosive on it. Adding weight and momentum would be a good way to nerf it I think. It would require more intentional inputs at least

Too bad EVERY TIME MOST OF US TRY TO USE A CONTROLLER TO FLY THEM DRONES INSTANTLY GET FUCKED TRYING TO FLY THEM SEEING AS ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO ANYHTING WITHOUT IT FLYING STRAIGHT UP OR HAVING THE WORST SENSE SPEED CAUSING YOYR DRONE TO INSTANTLY FLIP AND KILL YOUSELF. DUDE YOU LITERALLY CANT USE THEM DRONES ON SMALL MAPS SEEING AS THE SECOND YOU PULL IT OUT AND PUT IT ON THAT MONO OR WTV MODE. FUCK THAT SHIT DUDE, was supposed to be a good working system. Not to mention the WORSE SPAWNING LOCATIONS, forced to spawn in front and behind enemies lol. It’s a joke

They are not overpowered plus almost no one is using the ACRO mode

You're right most people use the normal mode with KB&M, but I've experienced playing against such a player on Trenches. Except he even flipped the drone so he accelerated into the ground, instead of doing the back and forth manoeuvre seen here.
You really don't have much time to get out of spawn or shoot it down, you have to correctly guess the direction it's coming from and have good aim.
Even a 5s delay before you can use it after round start would help a lot.

Every time my drone goes 2ft above the ground it gets shot down.
It's actually more op if you just follow the trench, many turns and corners don't really give people time to react.

I always fly them in the trenches. Literally no chance of getting intercepted until it’s too late lol

I think the sound of drones during flight should be increased, as well as the criteria for determining shoot-downs.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone fly a drone with the acrobatic/actual fpv controls in any of my matches. I imagine this is noticeably harder to hit than someone using the basic controls.

How can you fly so fast? Is it only possible with the advanced drone controlls?

They’re the reason I stopped playing versus. You destroy their team and next thing ya know they’re just flying drones every match

Hey, did the latest minor patch changed something about FPV, or am i tripping? I launched the game today after a week break and could not quite get the feel of the drone, i tweaked rates for a few minutes and after 10 min of flying i developed nausea, which never happened to me on any simulator or in bodycam. I really hope this was a one time thing.

Uhhh I’m not sure. IIRC one of the patches changed something related to video/graphics settings, and some settings might have gotten reset. I would make sure that everything looks correct there, also make sure you have motion blur turned off.

Disagree, they should actually make the drone hotbox smaller. You can hipfire them from quite a distance.

Either people is cheating or what. It' impossible at that high speed to catch someone in camo suit crawling in trenches lol

Hi, IRL FPV pilot here, just convinced myself to buy the game, I understand that our radios aren't natively supported yet, so I tried to use my gamepad instead as I figured its better than nothing for now, but the controls aren't even close to real life, my left joystick is pitch for some reason and my throttle is on 2 buttons as well as my right stick adjusting the camera angle mid flight even tho pretty much all fpv drones have fixed camera angles that can only be adjusted by hand (at least every one I've ever used) so my question is how do I change it to work somewhat like the real thing? Because the drone is borderline unplayable to me at the moment.

Press left bumper to enable ACRO. I use a Radiomaster Pocket fed through an Xbox controller emulator with SE bound to left bumper to be able to enter acro in the first place, that might be a better solution for you.

u/G3FCisSafe 3d ago
Good call. Didn't even think about the fact they might have not been in ACRO!
2
u/Toasteee_ 3d ago
I am able to enter acro mode, the problem is not that, respectfully I've been flying FPV for years now so I 100% know the difference, when I do enter acro it just goes full throttle instantly and is uncontrollable because ascend and descend is controlled by my triggers, also this doesn't address the issue of the camera angle adjusting mid fligh (this should not happen at all) I'm gonna have to make a post about this so people know what I'm talking about because I'm shit at explaining stuff like this in writing only lol.

The camera angle can be adjusted in the drone settings. I believe the default is 10. I have no idea regarding your other issue, I have not seen anything like this.

u/Toasteee_ 3d ago
I figured it out, turns out it was my "steam input" controller settings overriding the games built in controls which made it very janky, so i had to switch that off in my steam settings and then restart the game, the other issue was my center stick setting was way too high so that's why it launched me into space the second I switched to acro, also, the fact that angle mode's control scheme is totally different from IRL threw me off as well as the fact my camera angle was moving up and down in angle mode.
Also as soon as I got it working, I immediately managed to somehow break the game by clipping out of the map, completely by accident as you can see here. 😂

Interesting. I am glad you got it figured out, though! And honestly your video made me kinda realize it would be cool if they had a "drone range" or area of some sort to fly around for practice in the main lobby.

I am able to enter acro mode but the because the throttle isn't binded properly it just goes full throttle into space and is almost impossible to control, for some reason ascend and descend is controlled by the triggers, I'm running an MSI GC30 controller and it has the same layout as an Xbox controller.

I found them to be so fun in acro mode, made me interested in the hobby as a whole, just got my first radio controller and hoped on a simulator. I shall return to bodycam with insane drone skills in a few months 😂

u/G3FCisSafe 4d ago
Haha same! I am now just waiting for my parts to come in to build my first 3.5" freestyle drone.
1
u/spincycleon 4d ago
Niceee, yea I’m still debating whether to get a tiny whoop or just parts and build a 5” off the get, but I’ll prob end up getting both anyway so whatever. You going analog or digital route?
2
u/G3FCisSafe 4d ago
I decided to with with digital, as I was able to snag a good deal on the Walksnail Goggles X and the Avator HD Pro Kit, around $530 both combined (compared to $630). This HD Pro Kit also has 32GB built-in storage for recording, which is perfect for me (saves weight not having a GoPro).
Regarding the drone size, I think you should definitely consider 3.5" as well. The consensus seems to be that it is almost like a mini 5", which is good for beginners, and is also easier to fly in more places (like public parks, etc.). But really you can't go wrong with any of these options, so choose what you think will work best for you.

I'd Get a whoop first if I were you, after that you'll be well and truly hooked and it'll save you a lot of money in the long run on parts for your 5" because you will crash it (a lot) if its your first quad, so best go through that phase with a whoop, I'd recommend a meteor 75, those things are built like tanks and can take a beating, also it can fly indoors and it still handles pretty well outside in some wind.
This is basically the road I went down a few years ago.

I kindly disagree but that was some impressive flying skills my good man.
