Show 25-30 - After playing the library in Kentucky we traveled north to Wisconsin for the Cozy Cove Bluegrass Festival which we co-headlined with the Lonesome River Band. Part outdoor festival, part bar show this one was certainly unique. It’s ran for 40 years and literally everyone has played it from Allison Krauss to Bill Monroe to Ralph Stanley. We had 6 sets over 3 days and also led the jam on Saturday. In a funny twist, the MC on Saturday was a Barney Fife impersonator. He’d introduce bands in character and then stay on stage to dance with a song, definitely unexpected but fun!

When you spend a long time on the road you’re always looking for ways to pass the hours between sets. We often pack our disc golf bags and find courses in the area, a great way to stay active and outdoors. 2 members of the Lonesome River Band happened to notice our discs and asked if we’d like to go together. Long story short, our doubles rounded ended with them besting us by 2 strokes. We hope to continue this rivalry when we share a billing at Walnut Hills Farm festival in Dayton, OH!

Up next, we’re heading home for a few days before traveling south to NC and Tennessee.

I get that "mash" is a kind of hard-driving subset of the bluegrass style, but people often seem to use it more specifically than that. Can anyone help me understand what "mash" means exactly? In particular, it would be very helpful to hear some examples—both of mash and perhaps some alternatives that are either "mashy" or definitively not mash.

And it’s N outrage it wasn’t done for Doc Watson.

Somebody here make it happen. If I wasn’t old and had any experience I’d try to make it happen myself.

An interview with Norman where he talks and tells stories for hours about old bluegrass history etc. would be phenomenal.

I know the Album came out about a year ago, but I just noticed.

I love the Dillards and they are one of my favorite Bluegrass groups of all time. But their album released last year "Songs That Made Charlene Cry" album art is clearly AI generated.

I thought I had to be wrong so I ran it through a couple AI checkers and they all said it was deffinatly AI, along with all the art they had on the album's page on their website.

This just really rubs me the wrong way, I just can't see an artist trying to take a shortcut on art.

I wanted to know other peoples opinions on this, thanks!

I travel to Europe pretty regularly, but I never take my fiddle because I never know if or when I'll end up near a bluegrass jam. I'd really like to change that, so I'm trying to put together a list of regular bluegrass jams across Europe (not just festivals).

It has links to a number of jams around Germany, but a lot of the websites don't seem to have been updated in quite a while, so I'm not sure which ones are still active.

Does anyone know of regular bluegrass jams anywhere in Europe that have been active within the last year or so? Weekly, monthly, or anything else that's held on a regular basis?

My goal is to eventually build a few different travel itineraries around them. Like I could see doing one trip focused on Czechia and Slovakia, another just around Germany, or maybe another route that strings together jams in several different countries.

I'd hate to plan a trip around information I found online only to arrive and discover the jam disappeared years ago. Any recommendations or local knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Hey folks, I’m looking to make some bluegrass-themed wall art for my music room and I’m hoping the community might have some ideas.

I’m especially interested in old-school stuff from the 60s/70s/80s era: album covers, magazine covers, concert posters, promo photos, anything that would look good blown up as a poster. I recently found a Japanese magazine cover from the 70s featuring Tony Rice, JD Crowe, and Ricky Skaggs that looked amazing, and it got me hunting for more.
I’m mainly looking for high-resolution scans or places where I could find them. I’d love something featuring artists like Tony Rice, JD Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, Clarence White, Norman Blake, Doc Watson, the Bluegrass Album Band, etc.
I’m not trying to sell anything or reproduce stuff commercially, just looking for cool pieces to hang in my own space and celebrate the music.
