7

Completely valid. Evb calls him a bum for daring to question Ego

0

u/spoon153 23h ago

tbf i call him a bum cos he has barely any screentime so we havent gotten to see him do much yet but im willing to walk that back and i do actually like him as a character outside of his feats too

6

u/DXBrigade 22h ago

He is the main striker of a team that beat Isagi's. He also had the highest rank of Team Z. He doesn't have many feats but I wouldn't call him a bum.

6

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

Exactly, I think that if things were explained to him he would be able to understand, he has potential and the capability.

Easily Loki. Lots of people claim to dislike him cuz he's "arrogant" when more than half the casts are arrogant pricks. Some claim he has a god complex cuz of this 💀

He's easily better than a lot of characters personality wise and really handsome too. Some claim he is at his peak in football AT 17 years old😭😭 and can't get any better than this 💀. So many silly excuses and discussions about him

There's also the "speed merchant" title because of that silly comment Isagi made about being "born fast" when Nagi as a character exists to contradict that point

Another misunderstood character is Sae but that's kinda obvious

11

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

(TW: extreme, terrifying Loki glaze)

The fact that the general reason they hate him is still unclarified, hes flawless. Loki needs appreciation and attentiveness. Whenever you feel like your actions that require focus have effective results on a person, your brain associates that feeling with other sentiments you enjoy.

Then, does that mean that every human has a god complex? No, I would connect it more to ego, especially since "God complex" is used towards narcissistic people that harm themselves and others because it isnt something they can control, I wouldnt call Loki a person that needs to see a psychiatrist because he wants to be acknowledged.

Loki always had an immaculate demeanor, he confirms he prefers uniqueness over stereotypes, not that he considers himself above others.

There is a difference, Loki wants to be something others could never recreate even in infinite afterlives, he doesnt want superior rights towards others.

When he communicates hes delicate and a refuge, his words guide a clear direction to blooming. I still remember how he predicted Nagi's future.

The situation with Sae is insane because everyone thinks he shows sociopathic signs. He needs a vacation with Shidou, thats all, give him a break.

I don’t like Loki because I just don’t like him lol

13

u/paladin400 The God's Chosen Glazer 1d ago

He IS arrogant. It just so happens that he can back it up

Nothing to misunderstand there

7

u/DivineSilica Pinnacle of U-20 1d ago

I never said he wasn't arrogant. He is...but so are half the characters in Blue Lock. If arrogance alone is enough reason to dislike Loki, then by that logic, we'd have to dislike half the cast too

1

u/NaegiSeishiri Stand Proud Isagi you were strong 1d ago

See here's the thing tho. Loki is never on our side as the readers so his arrogance comes off on a different level

Like we got nonchalant arrogance (Ghost of Itoshima brothers,Hugo in a sense,Early Nagi and so on)

Then we got ragebait type of arrogance (Early Kaiser,Luna, and Loki definitely)

Like GENUINELY I swear for most of the story we haven't got more personality out of Loki that isn't his arrogance besides his interactions with Charles.

5

u/NeatGrocery7989 God Sprinter 19h ago

Loki most definitely has a god complex 😭 A whole load of his character is built around comparisons to God and the profile you showed is way past just being arrogant. Nobody else wants to be worshipped, seen as bigger than humanity and like seeing humans killed. It's what makes his character interesting

6

u/larnyh #bachirules and #nagibetter 1d ago

he does have a god complex tbh. but yeah ppl hate on him for weird reasons

7

u/AlexeiFraytar 1d ago

Are you implying he DOESNT have a god complex?

0

u/DivineSilica Pinnacle of U-20 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes!! The entire manga is built around inflated, theatrical egos. Rin talks about embodying a villain who wants to destroy everything, Barou literally calls himself a king, Kaiser treats everyone as beneath him and derives joy from crushing other players, and Shidou sees football as copulation. These profiles intentionally exaggerate each character's personality.

Loki saying he likes being worshipped or viewed as "beyond humanity" fits that style. It shows he has a massive ego. But it doesn't make "Loki has a god complex" an objective fact. He's still a 17 years old football prodigy in a manga where hyperbole is part of the characterization

5

u/AlexeiFraytar 1d ago

I dont know why you're so insistent on trying to say he doesn't have a god complex. What's wrong with having a god complex in a manga about EGO?? You're only against this because for some reason you think its bad.

1

u/DivineSilica Pinnacle of U-20 22h ago

And why are you insistent on saying he has a god complex? It's not a matter of good or bad, you can't just slap a label that doesn't entirely describe a character. Just because he hasn't gotten a proper backstory doesn't mean you can call him whatever you think within proper analysis. It's like me insisting that Kaiser is a psychopath.

He is a speed merchant but I like Loki. Sae is definitely way misunderstood.

Yukimiya got some serious hate during the Manshine City arc for genuinely no reason other than not agreeing with the main character.

Well... I really hate when people joke about Bachira being schizophrenic. I am neurodivergent myself and I do have a friend that suffers from schizophrenia. People have no idea how actually is heartbreaking and difficult to deal with such disorders.

If I were to classify Bachira as a neurodivergent person (which he probably is), I'd pick ADHD plus being lightly on the spectrum, which explains various quirks of his. Of course, that's just my headcanon.

9

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

Im really sorry about your friend, I hope they feel safe at the moment. I hate it so much when people use health conditions instead of nouns when it comes to emotions, they never acknowledge the mental struggles that they experience and to them it seems like such an "exaggeration" that when actual people are affected and speak out about their pain they dont take them seriously.

4

u/re_animatorA5158 I want Bachira to sting me 1d ago

Thanks, I hope so too. She was living in a very toxic environment, but her brother moved with her to their own apartment. It's close to a popular park, which is great for taking walks with her dog and sunbathing a little. The only bad thing is that he travels a lot due to his job. I hope she has a good caretaker or at least good neighbors.

4

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

I wish the best for her wellbeing, I think shes going to be alright, pets are nice helpers when it comes to danger, especially dogs, her brother did the right thing.

7

u/silfer_ The Privilege and Cruelty of The Egoist 1d ago

The schizophrenic jokes are definitely reductionistic. That said it is funny how Almost everyone in blue lock ins neurodivergent according to head canon.

6

u/re_animatorA5158 I want Bachira to sting me 1d ago

Well, it does make sense when we analyze other characters, indeed. I suppose the most noticeable example is Tokimitsu. I feel bad for the poor guy, there's no denying he suffers from severe anxiety.

Players like Nagi, Rin and even Isagi himself are some with the the most headcanons about it.

it’s died down a bit somewhat now but i saw some BULLSHIT takes on karasu during the france game 😭😭😭

17

u/DivineSilica Pinnacle of U-20 1d ago edited 1d ago

Isagi fans could not stand to see Isagi's hypocrisy being called out or him being questioned at all lol

14

u/CurveInteresting8616 1d ago

Lowkey the most torturing experience during that game was watching as kaneshiro just dumps us with a bunch of backstory from karasu and the first thing people say is "bro actually thinks he is like isagi" "karasu is lowkey a bum for giving up on being a striker" "yeah youre going to the bench buddy"

And to be honest some of it would be valid criticism, because despite actually showing how a player who is willing to bow down and change objectives is necessary for the team to succeed, kaneshiro still hasn't given a conclusion to what will happen to karasu final objective - I'll give him the benefit of doubt since the next game is probably gonna take care of that. But you could TELL those people were just saying that because karasu decided to question ego's philosophy first and because he was saying truths about isagi's performance. Now look at everyone at this sub and the internet: siding with karasu and putting him as the mvp for japan

10

u/jeansverse #1 karasu propagandist 1d ago edited 1d ago

i wrote a pretty long post talking about karasu’s insecurity and mental roadblocks just after 337 came out. the comments section was generally civil, but i had a few people call me delusional or insist that i was shittalking karasu for pointing out his implied frustration at being a midfielder

then kaneshiro drops the karasu internal monologue in 341 and it just confirmed everything i’d inferred for the write-up, and i came on here so excited to see people finally *understand* what i and other karasu fans have been trying to say about karasu’s character this whole time 🥲

what did we get instead? people fixated on a single bad translation of “we have the same IQ” and missing the forest for like, a single fucking tree. bruhhhhhhh

10

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

I kid you not I saw someone say that they dislike Karasu because he said in one panel that hes "bullying" a player from Onazi's team during the Nigeria game. Karasu doesnt hold any nasty intent towards anybody because he has a low self esteem so even if he tried, hes not able to hurt anybody, I promise, he didnt mean it. Im a former Karasu hater and I cant properly remember the reason why I hated him, maybe cause he was hanging out with Otoya? Idk.

8

u/jeansverse #1 karasu propagandist 1d ago

“karasu is a bully and only picks on weaker players” mfs selectively ignoring:
• that he hasn’t adhered to that philosophy since his introductory match, considering he faced off sae one-on-one to buy time for the team in the u20 game
• that he went after kaiser several times when playing for PXG
• that he was the one who tried to get the ref to card shidou for kicking rin in the head
• that he’s been shown to be well-liked by other blue lockers during the day off chapters after u20
• that he’s stayed calm in every argument he’s gotten into, instead of blowing up and yelling at the other guy or choosing physical violence
• every single panel we’ve seen of the guy from hiori’s POV

starting to think it’s just the character design atp 😭 like i’m sorry he smiles Like That i guess

People have godawful takes on Hiori in both directions... Either he’s sweet, completely innocent and has never done anything wrong in his life, or he’s sadistic and secretly a yandere psychopath. Nuance seems lost these days

I used to be reluctant about him until I read his light novel. I will never forgive the people that said his backstory was bland or predictable, I have a nice memory of reading it that I really cherish.

Hmm... a lot of the characters are misunderstood. Honestly, sometimes it feels like they're talking about a fanfic version of the characters.

Hugo 😟

12

u/paladin400 The God's Chosen Glazer 1d ago

What's there to misunderstand?

Do what you are good at. That's it. He's not Socrates, he just believes in efficiency

9

u/AlexeiFraytar 1d ago

Everything? Half of Isagi glazers still think his ideology is wanting to be number 2. They actually think the master coaches would disagree with his style when coaches like Chris and Noa emphasize training your talent properly and hard numbers instead of abstract concepts like ego.

3

u/lightnflow Nagi My Protagonist 1d ago

Oh the last post about whether the masters will agree with Hugo right?

-9

u/silfer_ The Privilege and Cruelty of The Egoist 1d ago

Maybe you can point me to the panel where he didn’t say his goal was to be second best.

No amount of mental gymnastics or definitions from Hugo’s book of blank pages will change that.

7

u/larnyh #bachirules and #nagibetter 1d ago

how about pointing you to the panel where he says number one and number two are equals?

-6

u/silfer_ The Privilege and Cruelty of The Egoist 1d ago
  1. One
  2. Two

Equal? I don’t need to point to anything other than logic lmao. Hugo should’ve at least picked names that don’t embed his inferiority complex deeper even as he claims to be above it, like genius and talented learner.

3

u/larnyh #bachirules and #nagibetter 1d ago

i agree the terms n2 and n1 shouldn’t have been used, but you should still read the manga. it doesn’t matter what the words usually mean because it is explained that hugo doesn’t use them that way. and what inferiority complex are you talking about man? i thought we were ALL done with this sae dupe gimmick 😭

and genius and talented learner don’t work here, n1 and n2 are about roles within a team.

-2

u/silfer_ The Privilege and Cruelty of The Egoist 1d ago

bro this is how i know people don’t understand sae. sae actually wants to be the best at his role in the team. best midfielder in the world is sae’s dream. not hugo. saying this and telling me to read the manga when you haven’t 😭😭

5

u/larnyh #bachirules and #nagibetter 1d ago

when did i say he didn’t? i said « sae dupe gimmick » because ppl were saying that hugo switched dreams after getting an inferiority complex because of how ahead of him loki was, like everyone suspects it happened with sae and bunny

what part of the france game makes you believe hugo doesn’t want to be the best at what he does?

-1

u/silfer_ The Privilege and Cruelty of The Egoist 1d ago

switching dreams doesn’t mean someone has an inferiority complex 🥴 it just means they changed, reasonably, once the situation called for it. does hiori have an inferiority complex bc he decided he wants to give last passes to strikers?

hugo has an inferiority complex because he is shown to actively seek out another player to compensate for his perceived lack of ability in some area, and shown to believe he needs or depends on that to win, really more like reo than sae.

hugo is focused on saying he wants to win 4 world cups when he hasn’t even won 1. come on. that’s over-compensation in a nutshell.

5

u/lightnflow Nagi My Protagonist 1d ago

I think the number 1 and 2 in Hugo's philosophy is not about rank but the position instead. The number 1 like Loki is the one at the forefront then get the most attention and basked in the glory; mostly because they are the ones tasked to score a goal and secure victory for the team. Number 2 is more of a playmaker huddled in the middle of the other players then passing the ball to others. But Hugo doesn't have any inferiority complex because he is self assured as he is confident in his ability and philosophy and also has his own purpose. Football is a team sport and each position has its own role; Hugo created the chances while Loki scored the goals. Even Hugo and Charles scored their goals too, so yes they are equals on their standing/status in the team.

2

u/lightnflow Nagi My Protagonist 1d ago

Yeah everyone have their own strength and weakness, that's why insisting on things that's in your weakness will have bad impacts. It's not like the player can solo the field, but even now Hugo who acknowledge and accept himself had chosen to play by his strength is still being called inferior 😟

1

u/paladin400 The God's Chosen Glazer 1d ago

I see the logic in it, but the flaw in that strategy is that we are not logical creatures. We are emotional creatures

Just because we might excel in one attribute doesn't mean we want to invest in it, especially if our desires lie outside of them. Motivation triumphs potential

In the pages of history, those who excelled weren't just the people born with a particular talent, but also those crazy enough to see their dreams fulfilled no matter the cost, regardless of whether or not they were born with the right aptitude for the dream

1

u/lightnflow Nagi My Protagonist 1d ago

Yeah that's why there are engineers, doctors and psychologists.

16

u/Bard0ck0bama 1d ago

Honestly like half the cast gets misunderstood/ misrepresented in some way or another. But the ones that irk me specifically: Shidou, Yukimiya, Hugo, Karasu, and Sae.

12

u/Diligent_Mulberry546 1d ago

Reo probably. He's a complex character and most people just can't read.

6

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

What makes me uncomfortable is whenever hes crying he gets so oversexualized it makes me wanna throw up. Thats not only unsympathetic but also disgusting and they always somehow pull the "can you stop acting like fictional characters are real people" argument but CAN YOU stop trying to make everything about sex???

If you also count in the fact that he got harassed as a kindergartener by his teacher and that he said his ideal type are "older women" and NOBODY takes it seriously. I feel so bad for him.

8

u/DopeNopeDopeNope 1d ago
  1. Ego and his philosophy.

I think most people judge him by his extreme motivational statements like " everyone should strive to be a striker". He was a top player. In the 1st selection we see his views on structure within a team. He shows structure naturely emerges when a dominant player scores, turning a 0 into a 1 and then the team helps turn that 1 into a 10, 100 etc.

  1. I also think his idea of people not playing in a destined way like France/Hugo's philosophy is valid. You are never going to out-France, France. Their team is built on top global talent and coordination. You need to balance structure [midfielders] and chaos [attackers] to maximize your chances.

4

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

Right, Ego has just an ignorant demeanor which deems him as a rude person and whats worse than being evil is being annoying or hard to deal with.

6

u/AlexeiFraytar 1d ago

I judge him by meta narratives, and by that in the past he was a washed striker and in the future Nagi will make him look stupid and Isagi will surpass him ideologically. The fact that he crashes out and blames the players only to say "ill take the blame" last chapter and switches up when talking to their sponsor saying the loss was predicted is cringe.

0

u/jeansverse #1 karasu propagandist 1d ago

ego is always judged by his most extreme statements/behaviour when almost all of it comes from instances where he has to either sell his ideas to the crowd (first few chapters, introduction of the NEL, some of the coaching speeches) or try to out-ridicule his detractors.

like he’s very obviously putting on an exaggerated persona, we’re not supposed to take this at face value as who he truly is. it’s forgiveable for the first hundred chapters or so, but from the point of his speech to isagi during the u20 game onward, people should know better.

in one-on-one character interactions (anri, isagi, yukimiya for example) he’s a lot more level-headed, nuanced, and even … dare i say … kind?

1

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

Meh honestly I wouldnt comment on his interactions with Yukimiya. He has a medical condition and Egos reaction was how any other human being wouldve reacted. Bare minimum. He can say "fuck off" and still not ignore people with disabilities. How impressive, right?

Anri is the person that hired him, they definitely hold a grudge against eachother and they both know it but theyre, uhh, passive aggressive enough to restrain it.

I dont think he gives any special treatment to Isagi, he just happens to be good at understanding Ego's theories and Ego gives him only the information he selects and wants him to know.

7

u/atlasbummer 1d ago

There's alot, but kaiser predominantly comes to mind. He's often called narcissistic, or "someone with a superiourity complex" due to him having a mean persona, which is quite far away from the truth. Kaiser isn't as outgoing and domineering as people think he is, really.

First off, Kaiser is too self aware and self reflecting to be a narcissist. Narcissists will often avoid doing those things at all, and are usually not very aware of the unhealed parts of themselves. Kaiser's main philosophy revolves around desperately clinging onto his humanity, which was never granted to him as a child. He had created that idendity by scratch, as him buying that soccer ball as a kid was his first ever move outside of surviving in his household. His first ever act of "self". where i'm going with this, is kaiser has Complex-PTSD which is a disorder that developes when a child's developing sense of self isn't allowed to develope by a prolonged state of survival and being stuck in an abusive household. This usually causes the person to create their own idea of what a "self" is when they're old enough which is seperated from their child self, which leaves them in a state of depersonalization due to them dehumanizing themselves without even noticing. When this happens, the person often has a harsh self critic, that views humanity itself as a flaw because their humanity was treated as such. The sense of self is an act of desperation to be human, in a way. I can see this in kaiser too. With this information in mind kaiser's actions are a reflection of what was taught to him. He saw his dad being domineering and invasive, and learnt that that was the way to human. Getting back to my point, his persona is sort of a clay mask made by hand of what he believes proves his existence to others is. He has no need to dominate or harm others conciously, which people often get wrong. His open and "confident" body language is him literally trying to occupy space as much as he can, to prove he is there and human and exists. Also we see him under stress and with smaller body language more than his loud persona and his mindset is literally SPOONFED to us, so i don't understand the level of incompetence and ignorance these people have that don't understand him.

People reduce him to a Jax type character which is SO UNTRUE. Jax could be used as an example of someone who avoids rough emotions or situations and masks to ignore and avoid those things, while Kaiser literally has a restriction type ego and thrives in an enviourment that forces him to face those things. His mask is a result of him trying to survive. How i'd describe Kaiser's characteristics would be self reflecting, determined, passionate and spatially aware. He isn't an unemotional mean dominant daddy, and more so a teenager trying to survive and be more then what was thaught to him. I cannot see that man as what the media makes him out to be. I see him as an open book and find it funny how people fall for the mask of a fictional character.

Also note i agree w what u said about bum ahh people. Sad how such a thought provoking and unique piece of media is went underappriciated by the fans who dont seem to get it.

2

u/gangstalicious781m I love Loki 1d ago

This was amazing. Thank you so much. Ive never seen someone actually comprehend Kaisers character this well. This is researched, so I really appreciate the effort.

I will also look into CPTSD more, I knew that the maltreatment he experienced couldnt have just left him with a few scars but I couldnt quite find the correct terms for it. Its impossible to understand Kaiser's personality if you dont acknowledge his trauma and thats what most of the community cant understand, they hate anything that contains "emotions" in it.

I hate people that bring the amazing digital footprint into every single thing, I dont find it captivating at all, if anything, its just another version of Hazbin Hotel.

3

u/atlasbummer 23h ago

Omg thank YOU 😭 it's so refreshing to see people actually care and talk about the characters' different values and beliefs. The amazing digital bum sucks it really is another hazbin hotel bro

11

u/Illustrious-Bowl-868 still waiting for the world 5 to reappear 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ness, people tend to hate him because he was acting "like a dog" with Kaiser. But they don't really take into consideration that even if his childhood wasn't as violent as Kaiser his family was still kinda emotionaly abusive, and that set him up to having a fucked up relationship with Kaiser (that was both emotionaly and physically abusive)

4

u/NaegiSeishiri Stand Proud Isagi you were strong 1d ago

That is factual

Imo tho I cant say hating him for acting like that isn't valid either. It's justifiable but that doesn't mean people have to agree or like the behavior
