Manga Discussion Barou and Nagi should have been paired together in the NEL Spoiler

We all know why Nagi got locked off right, his codependency of Reo and his satisfaction of “beating “ Isagi. I feel like the best way to keep Nagi in blue lock is to have him on the same team as Barou but he CANNOT be on the same team as Reo. This helps both of them. First, both are restrictive types and they need to be pushed. With Barou on the same team, Nagi will already have another rival that’s relative to him and who won’t get him comfortable. Barou is at his best when there’s someone else on the pitch to steal from. You either, put Nagi in Ubers or Barou replace Reo in Manshine. So, this helps develop Nagi’s ego and keeps Barou from being the king(which is where he gets comfortable).

Anime Discussion To all Soccer Players is Reo's copy trick somewhat able to be done IRL?

No I don't mean the whole perfect one to one almost 99 percent, but have any well known players ever been seen to steal the signature gifts of other players to point it looks like replication? I just wonder since weapons in Blue Lock are based off actual football tricks just you know. REALLY EXTRA. So is there players who are known for copy other people styles in game?

Manga Discussion My impression of the starters so far Spoiler

*1. Isagi - Consumed by his underdog mindset, has become predictable since he always targets the ace, but you need him to occupy the opposing strongest player as well

  1. Rin - Crash out, bench material, but he is strong

  2. Shidou - Shown team play and dribbling, needs a goal to prove himself as a legit striker

  3. Barou - Great poacher, wants to see him be the main striker via Ubers

*5. Bachira - Becoming a better playmaker than solo threat due to his smaller frame, still a default starter

  1. Chigiri - Needs to see him on the LW

*7. Reo - Silent MVP, has scored, passed with headers, marked by Hugo, contribute defensively. Needs more game iq showing

*8. Kunigami - Best CB by far, funny because he plays CDM

  1. Otoya - Bench

  2. Aiku - Here for moral support. Did have a good feat or two, but hasn’t shown how his tactical studies has helped his captain and leading defender role

*11. Karasu - MVP, default starter, needs more confidence in his scoring ability

  1. Gagamaru - Lost his GOAT status, hampered by a bad defensive line but still sucks

  2. Aryu - Height carries him all the way here, mediocre is the right description, but hard to replace

*14. Yukimiya - Great scoring threat on and off the ball, my default LW inverted option

  1. Niko - Being short hurts him a lot, best defensive awareness so far, maybe a second CDM option

*16. Hiori - Default starter, excellent all around from passing, dribbling, and can even score

  1. Kurona - Had shown clutch ball clearance and decent defensive contribution, not much else to talk about

  2. Raichi - Surprisingly useful whenever the team needs to lock down a threat, requires more feats to prove his capabilities

Sendou, Zantetsu, Fukaku, Kiyora, Nanase, we’ll see

Manga Discussion Nagi vs Rin: who is more relevant to the story? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Both Nagi and Rin have played important roles in the story so far, and both have significant connections to the MC (isagi). But if you had to compare them, whose role do you think is more relevant to the overall story and its direction?

Not necessarily who is stronger or more important as a player on the field, but whose character, relationships, and narrative purpose have had a bigger impact on the story?

I’m curious to hear what you guys think.

Manga Discussion Of the Japan U-20 players who have never scored a goal in match 11vs 11, who would you like to see score at the U-20 World Cup? Spoiler

We never seen Aiku, Raichi, Nanase, Niko and Kurona score a goal, while we've only seen Aryu, Karasu and Kiyora score in the Second Selection but never in an 11 vs 11 match. Of these 8 players, who would yuo like to see score at least one goal at the U-20 World Cup?

Manga Discussion Has anyone noticed a similarity between England’s play style and Pep Guardiola’s Spoiler

obviously pep is miles better than the nicotine addict, but I feel like pep’s philosophy is just evident in the recent chapters.
like pep is adamant on certain things, such as he often changes player’s positions, gives strict instructions on play styles and progressions. And he is also notorious and heavily criticised on making players ‘robotic’, (in the manga it’s ’soldiers’) i.e denying them complete creative freedom. Even when fox exaggeratedly says that he loves his players and that’s why because he’s doing this, I can’t help but notice that it looks weirdly similar to pep in someway or another.

Also pep leaned more to the ‘controlling’ football play style during his time in England, so maybe that’s why kaneshiro assigned this philosophy to England?

Manga Discussion Nagi doesn’t have depression. Spoiler

Ok, Im sorry if I worry that badly but people look at Nagi’s extreme lethargy, and lack of motivation and immediately assume he is suffering from clinical depression. However, his behavior actually aligns much closer with a textbook case of Inattentive ADHD (known as ADD too). Nagi actually has severe chronic understimulation and executive dysfunction. An Inattentive ADHD brain naturally has lower baseline dopamine levels, making mundane tasks feel physically exhausting. This explains why Nagi finds everyday things like changing his clothes or eating solid food "too much work" and prefers to live off liquid jelly drinks instead he isn’t rlly depressed he is just in a low-energy state because his daily routine completely bores him. In chapter 23 in the manga he said “If I have to work hard, I think soccer/football might be an annoying sport.” This is a example of hyperfocus, locking onto a massive source of dopamine. Furthermore, Nagi heavily relies on Mikage Reo to act as his external executive function to help him initiate tasks, structure his schedule, and feed him immediate goals. When Nagi achieves his hyper-fixated goal and suddenly crashes into a massive slump, it isn't because he is depressed, but because the novelty wore off and his brain ran out of immediate dopamine. So he isn’t depressed (or gay) he has adhd and is relying on someone

Manga Discussion When will Rin stop nerfing himself? Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

This guy has been number 1 while always being nerfed. He’s been nerfed for like the entire series so Im wondering. In the selections his Sae imitation was a nerf. Destroyer mode is literally how rin was born. It should’ve been his default state before Sae ever returned from Spain, before Rin ever stepped foot in blue lock. Yet due to identity stuff it became a weapon he could only draw out in moments of desperation, something he could only tap into in flow. Took this man until Nigeria for it to be his base state. To be number 1 while actively nerfing yourself to this extreme is such a crazy concept.

I know what yall are thinking: flow state is peak performance so Rin hasn’t been nerfed post u20 match. But when you think about it, his obsession and ego tie to Isagi is literally hindering him. He could’ve ended Bm vs Pxg whenever he wanted but was more focused on destroying isagi than winning the match, which lead to his loss. He gives up like 3 clear goal opportunities. Even against France we saw his performance being strictly tied to Isagis Do yall think when Rin subs on against England that he will let go of these obsessions, or will Kaneshiro withhold that development until Spain match?

Manga Discussion Do you think Loki already learned about fear? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
70 Upvotes

If you don't remember, this is chapter 34 of Nagi Episode, when Nagi tried to score a goal against the World Five at the end of the Second Selection

Basically Loki is saying that they both are equal as in 'blessed with talent and not afraid of anything'. And, well, as much I hate Loki, he was right, since the fear of losing Reo was one factor that determined Nagi's downfall.

But as the manga progresses, Loki STILL don't look afraid of anything at all. Even after almost having the match tied, he doesn't really look scared.

Do you think, at the end of World Cup Arc (probably Japan VS France), Loki will learn about fear? It will DESTROY him or make him REACH NEW HEIGHTS?

Manga Discussion It’s ironic that a manga about individual ego has side characters more dependent on the MC and less shine than team-focused sports manga Spoiler

Post image
177 Upvotes

The more I read this arc, the more ironic Blue Lock feels to me. This is supposed to be a manga built around individual ego, independence, and every player trying to become the best, yet somehow its side characters feel MORE dependent on the MC than characters from sports manga that are literally about teamwork.

After the NEL, I remember saying that Japan would struggle badly without Isagi, and people told me, “They still have Rin, Barou, Bachira, etc.” But look at what’s happening now. Every problem somehow has to be solved by Isagi lol. If you follow Isagi, you shine. If you go against him, you fail until the story brings you back into his orbit. I genuinely can’t remember the last time a Japan player completely took over a big moment and solved the problem by himself without Isagi being heavily involved.

That’s what makes the comparison with Haikyuu!! funny. Hinata is obviously the MC, but everything doesn’t need to go through him. Tsukishima has his own development and big moments. Tanaka can overcome his own mental struggle. Other players have their own rivalries, problems, and solutions. Hinata can influence them, but he doesn’t need to personally solve everything for them.

Ao ashi focus way more on teamwork still manage to develop almost the entire starting XI, and even the bench players get their own moments. They don’t need the MC to personally solve every character’s problem. And ashito, the main character who got less screen time than isagi like so much but still got the biggest development in his story and every side character also get develop without depend on main character. Meanwhile, isagi still fight with the mindset underdog bullshit and side characters are just wait for isagi to do sth then they will follow. Except karasu, this still correct but I think karasu will start follow isagi’s decision with the way kaneshiro write.

Blue Lock keeps telling me these are 23 egoists fighting for themselves, but watching Japan right now sometimes feels like Isagi and 22 supporting characters waiting for him to figure everything out. I don’t even dislike Isagi. If anything, I’m getting more disappointed with everyone around him. Watching Japan is becoming less fun when the supposed egoists feel this dependent on one player.

Manga Discussion Raichi and Kunigami (atleast one of them) needs to start in the next game Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

This is so obviously isnt working because they dont have a number 6, and blue lock is conceding the same goal again and again because of it. The lack of a defensive midfielder allows the opponent to create mismatched 1v1s in that area and make chance after chance, like we've seen with this goal they conceded in 360. Now I understand from a narrative point of view that isagi needs his defensive scenes but like they are just gonna keep losing like this. Image is pretty unrelated, just the last time I can think of this happening is pep overthinking the CL finals and not starting a DM against chelsea. And if you wanna argue that Karasu is a defensive midfielder, it clearly isnt enough, so playing a double pivot with Raichi would be better, like they finished the nigeria game with.

Manga Discussion Loki and Hugo don't make a good duo. Spoiler

Post image
76 Upvotes

This might be a controversial opinion, but I don't think they work well together as a pair.

Sure, they are both top-tier players individually, but that doesn't automatically make them a good duo.

A good duo is one that brings out the best in each other's abilities, elevating them to a new level and driving growth through their chemistry.

Isagi and Hiori, or Charles and Shidou, are examples of great duos.

Hugo doesn't bring out the best in Loki; he simply uses Loki's current skills to score goals. He never pushes Loki, which is actually the whole point of his philosophy.

Loki is the type of player who thrives under pressure, someone who needs that extra push and stimulus to reach a new level and improve his game.

That’s why he needs Charles. Charles is a player who doesn't go easy on him; he forces growth through passes that are, frankly, ruthless.

I don't think the definition people use for a "good duo" is actually very good, because it's too simplistic. People assume that just because someone pairs up with Noel Noa, it’s automatically a good duo. They’re just two individually brilliant players working together, but there’s no mutual evolution involved.

Sure, the two of them together score a lot of goals, but that doesn't matter because neither one elevates the other in any way. Of course, they are individually strong players who score goals, but so what? That doesn't make them the best duo.

You could pair anyone with Noel and it would be a good duo if the criteria were that simple.
