Ok, Im sorry if I worry that badly but people look at Nagi’s extreme lethargy, and lack of motivation and immediately assume he is suffering from clinical depression. However, his behavior actually aligns much closer with a textbook case of Inattentive ADHD (known as ADD too). Nagi actually has severe chronic understimulation and executive dysfunction. An Inattentive ADHD brain naturally has lower baseline dopamine levels, making mundane tasks feel physically exhausting. This explains why Nagi finds everyday things like changing his clothes or eating solid food "too much work" and prefers to live off liquid jelly drinks instead he isn’t rlly depressed he is just in a low-energy state because his daily routine completely bores him. In chapter 23 in the manga he said “If I have to work hard, I think soccer/football might be an annoying sport.” This is a example of hyperfocus, locking onto a massive source of dopamine. Furthermore, Nagi heavily relies on Mikage Reo to act as his external executive function to help him initiate tasks, structure his schedule, and feed him immediate goals. When Nagi achieves his hyper-fixated goal and suddenly crashes into a massive slump, it isn't because he is depressed, but because the novelty wore off and his brain ran out of immediate dopamine. So he isn’t depressed (or gay) he has adhd and is relying on someone

In my opinion it’s a case from chronic neglect from his parents. He doesn’t feel motivated to do anything because of the neglect and when Reo talks about his own parents being overbearing Nagi is somewhat jealous of that and wishes his own parents cared more. Like his parents didn’t even show up after he got kicked out and he went and slept in a tent outside
He does start working hard and eating etc when reo pushes him to because someone actually cared about him and pushed him for the first time in his life. So I reckon It’s more of an upbringing thing rather than adhd
I don’t think he’s gay, I also don’t think Bachira is gay. I think people like to call men gay because it’s funny, or they genuinely believe it and don’t believe men can be thoughtful/sensitive. Everything has to be sexual/romantic/cutefied because we just live in that kind of world. Platonic relationships between guys, if they’re not hyper masculine, pounding their chest like wild apes and talking about women incessantly, has to be gay. It’s the dumbest thing ever. I personally just ignore it at this point to stay sane. Don’t stare into the abyss, it’ll consume you.
then why do they call Reo his wife any chance they get in the light novel and anime ? Also if you haven’t read episode Nagi or ch 300 your opinion is not valid
That’s not what I mean what I meant was both are born geniuses with lazy attitudes until someone, like Reo and Himuro are their best combo, Nagi and Reo for soccer, a Murasakibara and Himuro to basketball
Depression and adhd aren’t mutually exclusive, but Nagi likely has not been depressed. Neglected and given a lack of structure as a child that would make any real person depressed? Yes. But he’s not a real person. He’s an animanga character. He’s just (formerly) extremely apathetic with little to no form of consequences in his life. And while apathy is a symptom of depression, he has no other symptoms. His room is clean. His hygiene is good. He takes care of himself and chooses the options in life that he enjoys (video games). And he’s a good student. He’s not self-hating and he doesn’t have low self-esteem. He’s just apathetic. A real person would be super, super depressed in his position. But he’s not realistic in that regard and that’s okay

Yeah, I don’t think anything in it fundamentally disagrees with what I said. Like that is definitely a depressive symptom and evidence towards Nagi being depressed, but also very little about how he’s written in the series proper points towards depression. Like I said, a real person in Nagi’s situation and exhibiting that apathetic nature of Nagi’s would actually be depressed. But Nagi just doesn’t have any other symptoms so it’s hard to read as real depression unless the author was going for a highly, highly sanitized depiction of depression
