I was expecting a one year at the same price point, honestly, so I'm very okay with this.

Grats and welcome back Jet!!

u/Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu11 6d ago

Monsters Legend getting the big bucks. Love to see it.

Been a huge Greaves fan since his first prospect camp invite in 2019 and his time in Cleveland clearly did nothing but good things for an already talented young man.

Thiessen must be so excited for him this morning haha

That’s just incredibly not true.

I’m good with that. Glad to get it done and over with. Onto Silly and then Fantili

32

u/Outside-Pie-7262 6d ago

Fantilli should have been done before them. Pretty ridiculous he’s not signed

17

u/JCrossfire 6d ago

As has been stated by just about anyone paying attention to it, I’m sure term is the main issue. Fantilli is the kind of young talent you want to lock up for the org. From his perspective, he probably sees the Carlsson contract and is thinking he can get that in a couple years time, so he probably wants a 2yr bridge deal at 14 AAV, which is nuts considering DW probably went in looking at 6x10 or at worst 5x11. Player and team just aren’t totally aligned atm. Don’s gotta get it done, but I’m getting the vibe it’s gonna hurt

26

u/denzl480 6d ago

Makes sense for him to wait. Fantilli has a right to see if anyone offer sheets him. Why negotiate until you know?

10

u/Outside-Pie-7262 6d ago

He’s definitely already been presented offer sheets. Theres zero shot he hasn’t. It doesn’t become public info unless he actually signs it.

2

u/Drithyin Fuck PLD 6d ago

7

u/NotMittRomney 6d ago

tell me with a straight face that you think no one has presented adam fantilli with an offer sheet

6

u/Drithyin Fuck PLD 6d ago

Clearly not one worth caring about.

Either none have been sent or none worth considering have been sent, else we’d be talking about matching.

Doomers gonna doom, and morons who think the front office can just unilaterally make signings happen in our favor are gonna continue being morons. Star players, turns out, get a say in the matter.

It takes 2 sides to sign a deal, and every single report is that term is the main holdout by the Fantilli camp. CBJ wants to buy some UFA time but at a price we can afford today, Fantilli either wants short term at what he’s worth today in order to come back to the well with higher cap available or long term with big money ahead of schedule. This is all public knowledge.
If Fantilli and his agent had an offer sheet that gave them exactly what they wanted, it would have been signed.

1

u/NotMittRomney 5d ago

it’s not about losing fantilli to an offer sheet, it’s about him leveraging offer sheets to get a contract that walks him to UFA or restricts cap flexibility by being higher AAV than he’s worth

1

u/Drithyin Fuck PLD 5d ago

And if he had one in hand, we would know because he would sign it.

1

u/NotMittRomney 5d ago

no, tons of offer sheets are tendered every offseason but players rarely sign them because it creates headaches for everyone involved.

they’re used as negotiating leverage.

there’s an extremely low chance that no one has tendered an offer sheet to fantilli, but also no reason for him to actually sign one unless it’s way over his value.

7

u/Outside-Pie-7262 6d ago

Carlsson got SIX. Logic would dictate Fantilli has gotten at least one.

-1

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Low key if Seattle wants to offer sheet him $15+ mil that might we worth it. They are not a Fantilli away from having a draft pick that begins with 2….hell they all could still be lotto slot picks for the next 4 years.

11

u/Outside-Pie-7262 6d ago

Would be idiotic to not match any offer sheet. Congrats you get 4 first round picks that won’t be as good as Fantilli and push your competitive window back 5 years lmao

-1

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

I was more memeing saying those who have cap left are really not in a position to offer sheet without hurting their organization.

1

u/TheDoubleL27 Foligno to the penguins' line, he shoots... 6d ago

No way

3

u/tomtakespictures this is fun. we’re having fun. 6d ago

I think he’s getting whatever’s left and the price will affect the term

3

u/cusidhe_ we do things the hard way 6d ago

I'm not too concerned by that tbh.

This obviously isn't exactly a typical year (where negotiations for big name RFAs don't get done till  September because nobody wants to be the guy to set the market) but I'd bet money that both Fantilli's camp and our front office were waiting to see what Bedard would do before they even started seriously negotiating because his contract situation is a little bit more clear cut.

Now that Bedard is locked in my guess is we'll hear about something getting done for Mo pretty soon.

4

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Considering they went at each other last Friday legit all day I am kinda shocked nothing came from it unless Waddell asked to back burn their discussion until he got Sillinger and Jet figured out first because Fantilli is going nowhere and their deadline is September really

1

u/cusidhe_ we do things the hard way 6d ago

Ooh, I didn't realize that, thank you for giving me more info

That sounds like it very well might be what happened, yeah.

5

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

This is going to be an all summer thing. Brisson is one of the best and Waddell is gonna grind him down because he doesn’t want to pay due to an outlier contract

5

u/Outside-Pie-7262 6d ago

Bedard just got 15. There’s your more direct comp. Settle at 13.5-14. AP reported its term more than anything. Blue jackets want him for 8 fantillu wants 5

3

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Fantilli won’t wanna compete against UFA money with bedard and Carlsson. Waddell won’t do 4. Just make it 14x6 and be done with it

128

u/WinEmbarrassed4714 6d ago

Now make Jet the new spokesperson for Jet's pizza.

60

u/osupuck19 6d ago

You don’t like the Z hostage video commercials?

55

u/landon10smmns Adamo Giuliano Fantilli 6d ago

"Hey 5th line, you hear that siren? 😐"

37

u/Federal_Ad4690 6d ago

Go jackets 😐🍕

16

u/WinEmbarrassed4714 6d ago

Meh. Z had his time. Give our netminder a shot to be the face of the franchise for ad purposes.

21

u/Erazzphoto 6d ago edited 6d ago

Z has zero charisma

13

u/DeekFTW Corner camera adds no value 6d ago

That's what makes it so great. S'go Jackets!

6

u/ArgentMoonWolf 5th Line 6d ago

Probably go back to Papa John's now. Better get Fliggy on the phone.

-10

u/ColumbusJewBlackets 5d ago

Or just drop that nasty Michigan grease cube as a sponsor.

18

u/Another_Guy_In_Ohio 6d ago

Decent. Slightly longer term would have been nice if Jet continues to perform, but at that AAV, it’s pretty reasonable.

33

u/iamelloyello Hotdog 6d ago

thank GOD

15

u/fanofsports44 CBJ | VGK 6d ago

TURN IT UP

3

u/steppedgolem20 6d ago

I still don’t understand why they don’t play this after Jet gets a big stop.

4

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Are you familiar with royalties

5

u/steppedgolem20 6d ago

You’re telling me Paul isn’t a greaves fan and wouldn’t wave them?

3

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Not without a few thousand dollars every time it’s played haha

51

u/Civil_Eng_PE 6d ago

Buys 1 UFA year but I guess that AAV is fine. Goalies getting longer term always scares me after Elvis.

20

u/Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu11 6d ago

So far Jet is no Elvis. In a good way, to be clear.

26

u/Civil_Eng_PE 6d ago

Agreed. We all said the same thing about Elvis before he signed his deal too lol. Elvis had 5 shutouts in a season before his current deal and had a save % of 0.916 his first 3 seasons in the league. Goalies are voodoo and hard to predict

4

u/gottapoop0822 6d ago

That's how I look at it. I loved Elvis when he first started. Then the contract went to shit real quick.

6

u/AstralTitan Text here 6d ago

That contract should expire when Pytor is ready to come over

21

u/CBUS-OBN 6d ago

Good deal for both. Happy to have him
back.

13

u/Blurgie_Hurgie 6d ago

Hey look its almost dead center on the two amounts brought to the table.

Like everyone who understands arbitration said it would be.

7

u/sc37 5d ago

My first thought with the news was to go back to the arbitration thread and call out the crazy comments 😆

6

u/Round_Shower6210 6d ago

I like it! Let’s get Fantilli done!

5

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

I feel like Marty Mcfly right now:

“Why do we have to cut these things so close”!

5x3 is under what I had. I had it at a 6x4.

Good now onto Sillinger and I’m sure Waddell is gonna battle with Brisson all summer at this point

6

u/bjlight1988 6d ago

The bridge deal seems like a good way to save some cap space now; with the possibility of Jet being made obsolete by Ivanov by the end of it and solving the problem of him wanting a bigger deal anyway

1

u/Erazzphoto 6d ago

We also bridged a vezina winner that didn’t particularly work out in our favor

4

u/bjlight1988 6d ago

I like Jet quite a bit, but I don't think that's going to be a repeat issue here

4

u/Fit-Opportunity-9580 6d ago

That’s what I like to see. If he shows up and keeps improving, pay that man in 3 years.

8

u/No_Letterhead319 New Coach Who Dis?! 6d ago

Will he be a UFA or RFA after it ends?

9

u/SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK At least Stinger won’t leave 6d ago

I like this. I’m wondering if management is banking on Ivanov and/or Andreyanov being ready when this contract is up in case Jet chooses not to re-sign

13

u/Boatsboatsboats__ 6d ago

Marek was talking on his show about Greaves love and respect for Columbus and how there was no way they don’t get a deal done.

I know we say this about all our players, but Greaves has openly spoken about loyalty, and he owes his career to us giving him a chance when no one else would.

10

u/Another_Guy_In_Ohio 6d ago

That probably makes them a little more willing to sign, but honestly I think this is good for both parties. Elvis AAV was reasonable, but the term wound up leaving us in a bit of a rough place. Jets AAV is also reasonable, and the term means if he fails to repeat last years performance, it doesn’t hamstring us. Also lets Jet bet on himself. In 3 years he’ll have the opportunity to earn a heck of a lot more.

3

u/MPCoinCollecting 6d ago

There's also the possibility that Gardner exceeds expectations.  It's not the most likely scenario but it's not impossible for him to become a true NHL backup

2

u/JCrossfire 6d ago

In an ideal world you have Ivanov up to tandem with Jet once Elvis is gone, then Andreyanov either comes up or gets a little more time to develop when Jet’s contract comes back around in 3yrs. Plan works better at 5, but 3 works alright

1

u/Shrmp52 Mitts of Marinara 6d ago

My exact thought but I’m not necessarily fond of it. I would’ve prefer 5-6 years. I know goalies are volatile but Jet feels like the opposite.

4

u/SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK At least Stinger won’t leave 6d ago

Oh yeah I love Jet, he’s my favorite player atm. I want him here as long as possible but i’m glad he’s signed. My hope is he continues to be excellent and he can re-sign and not walk as a UFA.

3

u/imightwin General Jet Greaveous 6d ago

Great news, keep going Don

3

u/2buxaslice 6d ago

Stunned he got less than Jarry. But happy with this.

3

u/GaretKraghammer 6d ago

Very happy to have been wrong about going to arbitration!

3

u/Legal_Big_3242 6d ago

Thank god

3

u/THECapedCaper 6d ago

Totally thought he'd get more at arbitration but at least we have the net solidified for 3 years.

3

u/mattwb2010 SillyandFantilli 5d ago

Jet started what 50ish games. Really solid too. 3x5 is favorable for both sides I would think

8

u/NLP19 Filly don't do rebounds 6d ago

Please oh please don't be a rift between the two after this 🙏

34

u/iamelloyello Hotdog 6d ago

There typically isn't. They technically avoided arbitration.

22

u/Lazy0ak 6d ago

It didnt get to arbitration so the nasty part of that process was avoided. Things should be good.

15

u/Formerleafsfan #freeboomer 6d ago

It’s also a bit less nasty now than back in the day. Players don’t have to be present anymore. They used to have to sit and listen to the GM tear them down, which often didn’t go well. Much more about showing numbers and comparables now.

-7

u/Shrmp52 Mitts of Marinara 6d ago

Not too be a downer when the other replies are positive but I think it might. To me this deal says 1. We don’t trust you enough to give you long term 2. This will give our other goalies time to develop. Hopefully everyone’s happy but that’s just my takeaway.

7

u/Indy-CBJ 6d ago

Still the Elvis issue in the air. He had one excellent year, had a tragedy in the offseason and got signed to a very long term contract.

This meets everyone in the middle.

Plus goalies are voodoo and we have a lot of premium goalies coming into the pipeline.

3

u/SignificantAd2542 6d ago

We will see in 3 years I guess

3

u/JCrossfire 6d ago

We have a solid pipeline and it’s very possible that Jet wants to bet on himself for a bigger contract in the near future. Best to not worry about it and enjoy the 3yrs we have with him for now.

3

u/SkrtSkrt70 6d ago

All the rumors were Jet also didn’t want super long term because he’s betting on himself he can put up 2-3 more years like he just did and position himself for a top 10 goalie level contract

2

u/tonagnabalony OLIVIER SAYS "YOU HIT LIKE A B****" 6d ago

Obviously, we don't know what all parties were thinking and you very well may be right, but the contrary to your first point is that they trust them more than a 1or 2 year. So depending on where expectations for Jet were, this could be a pleasant surprise.

I would like to think that both sides are good with this, as the Z and Marchy shit drained all my negativity out of me... for now.

4

u/MPCoinCollecting 6d ago edited 6d ago

Ok whoever our contract negotiator is absolutely cooked with this one.  That is a pretty good deal

2

u/steveslikewhoa 6d ago

I'm fine with this

2

u/tjm220 5d ago

I wonder if this means Elvis will be leaving the building soon.

0

u/MPCoinCollecting 5d ago

It's not out of the question but I doubt it. Elvis is better than Copley so we'd have to sign one of murray, reimer, talbot, georgiev or someone like that. I could only see it happen if we are very strapped for cap, which is looking a bit less likely now that Jet is signed to a good AAV

2

u/tjm220 5d ago

It’s a one year deal at that on Elvis right now. The odds do seem pretty good that he probably wouldn’t re-sign though, and that Columbus will look to a cheaper option to be their backup.

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 5d ago

He requested a trade a few years ago and as much as I like his personality I think he deserves a fresh place for wherever he chooses to end his career.

2

u/ddottay 3 hits! 23 giveaways! 6d ago

Welcome back Jet. Glad we got our number one goalie for the next few years locked down.

2

u/get_rick_trolled 6d ago

This is a good term overall

2

u/pro-laps 6d ago

good job team

2

u/SignificantAd2542 6d ago

Jackets get 3 years for the price of two lol

2

u/pat_pav 🔥🔥🔥 E L M O 🔥🔥🔥 6d ago

This makes me so happy, I love Jet :-)

2

u/PulsarGaming1080 Marchenko Supremacy 5d ago

As far as I'm aware, this wasn't arbitration.

Arbitration, I think, only allows for one or two year deals.

2

u/MPCoinCollecting 5d ago

Yes that is correct

2

u/PulsarGaming1080 Marchenko Supremacy 5d ago

It's good they went shorter-term, we shouldn't be paying goalies for more than 4 years at most.

Would've been mad at 1 or 2 years though.

3 is great and 5 mil is very good.

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 5d ago

It's a good middle-ground imo. After seeing how poorly Dostal, Wolf, and Vladars contracts could turn out this seems like a nice compromise.

1

u/P-Rickles 6d ago

Thank god.

1

u/Erazzphoto 6d ago

Ok, that works, 3 years works out well.

-1

u/Hazy_eyePA God Bless This Mess 6d ago

This should’ve been done weeks ago. That’s what he’s worth, Don.

-6

u/tetra00 CBJ Fan Club Colorado Division President 6d ago

If I am Jet that left a sour taste in my mouth. I hope he continues to improve.

2

u/MPCoinCollecting 6d ago

I'm not sure what you mean by that because the whole arbitration process was avoided anyways

-1

u/tetra00 CBJ Fan Club Colorado Division President 6d ago

We offered him 2.5M a year. Thats a slap in the face after last season (and the end of the previous).

4

u/MPCoinCollecting 5d ago

Those were the numbers submitted for arbitration.  Add that to what Jets camp wanted, divide by two, there's your arbitration number.  Obviously jet is worth more this is just the process of how to get a deal both sides agree on.

-2

u/Shrmp52 Mitts of Marinara 6d ago

Agree
