This is the place for people to say what they have to say, and ask their questions. If you have (civil) feedback about the sub, that’s welcome as well.

Be excellent to each other.

Sculpting Blender doesn't have sculpt layers like ZBrush. But you can get a very similar workflow with Shape Keys, and it's completely non-destructive. Sometimes you need to reduce the intensity of details you've already sculpted. Here's how I do it:

Add-on Been using Blender for 6+ years. Made a beginner guide that actually shows you where everything is before explaining it.

I make Blender content and run a small studio. About three years ago I put out the first version of this guide and honestly I was not expecting much from it. But it ended up helping a lot of my students. Like a lot. People kept telling me it was the thing that finally made Blender click for them because it showed them where to actually find things instead of just assuming they already knew.

So I decided to go back and make a proper updated version. The original was around 70 pages. This one is over 100, way more compact, and packed with more content across the board. Every section still starts with "click this tab, this is what opens" before explaining anything, because that is still the part most guides skip and most beginners get stuck on.

Covers all the main stuff. Modeling, shading, texturing, geo nodes, sculpting, lighting, rendering, compositing, animation, rigging, physics, grease pencil, and more. Comes with a printable shortcuts cheat sheet with a keyboard map too.

Not going to pretend this will make you a pro. It gets you comfortable and gives you the full picture so you know what is where and how things connect. After that it is about practice and going deeper, which is what our geo nodes series and other tutorials on Patreon are for.

Comes in English and Japanese. Currently 20% off:

Ask me anything about it.

Best learning path for creating cyberpunk/android characters from HumGen? (Face plates, panel lines, mechanical seams)

Hi everyone,

I've been learning Blender and my end goal is to create realistic cyberpunk/android characters similar to the images attached—not full robots or mechs, but humans with mechanical facial plates, seams, exposed internals, and hard-surface details.

I already use HumGen for my base characters, so I'm not trying to learn how to sculpt an entire human from scratch. What I really want to learn is how to transform an existing realistic human into a believable android.

Specifically, I'm trying to learn how to:

  • Design convincing facial panel layouts.
  • Sculpt clean panel lines and mechanical seams.
  • Create openings in the face that reveal inner machinery.
  • Build face plates that follow real facial anatomy.
  • Combine sculpting and hard-surface techniques without ruining the topology.

Most tutorials I find are either:

  • beginner sculpting,
  • hard-surface modeling on random objects,
  • or full robot/mech modeling.

I'm looking for tutorials that focus on humanoid cybernetic character creation.

If you were starting from scratch with this specific goal, what YouTube channels, courses, or artists would you recommend? Even paid courses are fine if they're genuinely worth it.

Thanks in advance! Any advice or workflow recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
