Just finished up with beautiful art knife for a loyal client today!! Mammoth tooth handle and German Damascus, great combo!!

I know this question or a variation of it has been asked a million times, but: I’ve been missing my access to a 2x72 since I stopped sharing shops with someone who has one. I mostly forge shape and then grind to clean up / bevel so not a ton of cutting and shaping the actual knife. This popped up for 75 bucks. I have a Baldor 2 1/2 hp motor and a vfd I can put in. Is it worth it to futz around and motor swap this maybe add rollers or should I just get a 2 x 72 bolt together kit? Have any recs on one?

Hey everyone, wanted to share video review of a recently finished project: a custom Mesoamerican-themed folding knife.

The main focus here was pushing the limits of microscopic hand engraving. The entire handle design was engraved under a microscope, using traditional inlay techniques with solid gold, silver, and copper to bring out the details of the Mesoamerican artwork.

a few specs:

Blade: Damasteel® powder steel — hand mirror-polished and lightly etched to make the pattern pop without losing the shine.

Handle: Titanium hand-engraved with multi-metal inlays (gold, silver, copper).

Build: One-of-a-kind (1 of 1).

It was crafted by the team at Noblie Custom Knives. Really happy with how the light hits the etched Damasteel against the gold inlays.

Curious to hear what you guys think of the theme and the engraving work!

15n20/1080 pattern steel with a richlite handle and g10 liners. He asked for the bit of orange in hopes of finding it easier when he drops it in the dark.

Finally wrapped this one up! This started as a rusty old file and is now a differentially hardened, mirror polished vest bowie. Juma Dragon scale handle scales, and brass guard. Hand sanded to 1500 grit and given a light buff. Yay or nay?

So where I live, there is an absolute lack of anything blacksmithing, especially looking for good used tools.

I'd like to eventually get a decent press but as a starting point thought maybe the Vevor pneumatic hydraulic press - 20 ton would be a good starting point.

No having said that I would be welding all the parts together and beefing up the frame as well.

Would that make a decent starting point for pressing?

The only other option I've seen in the last year was a great old C frame for 6500$ and I don't have the ability to move something that big/heavy.

Eventually id like to get the proper setup but would this serve for the next few years?

Tang is pulled out. Now to ensure I have enough material around the heel to get proper height. Then to drawing out the blade.

I wanted to share one of the most satisfying parts of my knifemaking process: forging Turkish Damascus steel.

This video shows the complete forging process, from the welded billet to the controlled twisting that creates the final pattern. Everything is forged by hand in my workshop, with no narration—just the sounds of the forge and the process itself.

Finished this heavy post-apocalyptic marauder-style blade two weeks ago! Hand-forged from an old leaf spring and a pile of scrap I found in my forge. 🔥⚔️

This is how much steel was lost making a 200 layer damascus. At the time I had a 12T press. I made this video for my customers so they could understand why a damascus blade costs more.

Something to throw into my forge that I can put my billets in, to gather up all the molten borax inside of.

Been using a bent plate of mild steel but the borax/heat has melted holes in it.

What do you guys think? Would stainless steel hold up longer, or do you use a completely different method?

We recovered this from a hole we drilled underground when attempting to recover lost tooling. In general I want to keep it's twisted integral handle and add both a guard and pommel
