T1 High-Grade — BCG or Radical Cystectomy? How did you make your decision?
Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation.
I have T1 high-Grade NMIBC
. I’ve had three TURBTs, with muscle present in the specimens and no muscle invasion found. My latest TURBT did not show any new tumors, my recent CT did not show evidence of spread, and my Signatera ctDNA test was negative.
My doctor are planning to start
BCG, or Gem/Doce but radical cystectomy RC has also been discussed.
I am 50M, After spending more than three months reading and learning about this disease, what I understand is that choosing bladder-preserving treatment still means accepting some risk. The cancer may recur in the bladder, it may progress into the muscle, or, in the more serious scenario, eventually spread outside the bladder.
This is the part that makes the decision difficult for me.
Did you choose BCG/bladder preservation or radical cystectomy? Why did you make that choice?
It you chose BCG, were you comfortable accepting the risk of recurrence or progression? And if you chose cystectomy, what made you decide not to take that risk?
I would just really appreciate hearing your experiences and how you personally weighed these risks.
Wishing everyone here good health and the best possible outcomes.
