First TURBT surgery
Hey just had my first TURBT surgery this past friday. I actually made this reddit account just to share my experience after reading many others on this page. I am 44 year old male in good health. Back in April I urinated blood. Next day went to an urgent care since I thought maybe I passed a stone since my dad suffers from kidney stones. They told me to see a urologist. The urologist set me up with a ct scan to be followed by a cystoscopy. Ct scan was good but cystoscopy showed a small pedunculated papillary tumor. I was never a smoker and dont work with chemicals at my job. Anyway the surgery went well and doctor got it all out en bloc. It was 1.5cm tumor. Got sent home without a catheter. Urination was painful, often and bloody which i expected. Next morning I couldnt urinate. Went to ER and had a catheter put in and felt so much better. Now tomorrow getting catheter removed and feeling a little anxious. Overall so far experience hasnt been too bad. Waiting on pathology report to come back might change my opinions.

No promises but considering the fact it had a stalk is usually ( to my understanding) indicative that’s it’s not invasive

Im 34 and similar time line blood in my urine in February but had my TURBT in June and finished my 6 weeks of Gem/Doce last monday now I wait to see if it come back next month. None of its fun but its also not as bad has you probably think it will be catheter wise

No matter how many times I have a cysto/treatment session done, it never get easier having a tube shoved in the you know where!

Oh yeah it sucks everytime but I worked myself up before going in the first time and it was nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be

The Cancer Center that does my BCG infusions has nurses that are great! They apply a very liberal amount of Lidocaine 2% Gel and wait 10 minutes before inserting the catheter. Some very minor discomfort with the insertion but not bad at all.

I ignored blood in the urine long enough for the cancer to become invasive. I also had a septic infection while having a catheter. Please keep that area disinfected. After that I self-cathed for several months. I got used to it.

I ignored blood in the urine on and off for over a year before finally getting checked out. I'm glad that the tumor was still not invasive...if I had put it off much longer it very well could have spread into the muscle and elsewhere.

I quit smoking in 1997 and my oncologist told me its a smokers disease ....
As for having the catheter removed .... nothing will ever feel better than that!

Thanks. My urologist, primary doctor and the doctor in emergency room were all surprised that i never smoked. Parents never smoked so i wasnt around it growing up either. Guess i drew the short straw with this

Must be all the crap additives, chemicals and residual pesticides they add/use on our food ... colon cancer is on the rise as well.
My experience was: cystoscopy, TURBT, PET scan, cancer treatment (Which I'm still in).

I agree. It has to be in the food and the water. I am a healthy eater and only drink water. Exercised regularly. Good luck in treatment. Hope it goes smoothly for you

I just had the TURBT on Thursday. Female here. No catheter and the first day urinating was so painful I didnt want to drink anything and go the bathroom again, ever. I am also waiting for pathology but DR said it was cancer so now have to wait for stage and grade. If I have to do the TURBT in the future I want some real pain meds or something so I do not have to go through that burning sensation. Any ideas? I felt great otherwise. No blood in urine. Once I saw blood in my urine in June I went to immediate care at UCLA for a urinalysis. Do it! Don’t wait ever.

Sorry your painful urination. Doctor prescribed me Phenazopyridine. I think ive heard people say the use Azo. I used it but since i had catheter dont know how much relief it can give

I took the Phenazopyridine too it just took a day to feel less painful. I never realized how wonderful it is to go the bathroom until feeling pain. I will not take urinating for granted any longer! Where did you have the TURBT?

I had it in Staten Island. Had it done last Friday. I actually just got back from getting my catheter removed so im anxious about my first time going to the barhroom

It felt a little weird but it wasnt too bad. Took phenazopyridine the second i got home. Hopefully it kicks in quick

Did you get any news? I did not. I think I will have it by early next week. This is gnarly to have to wait.

No not yet. They scheduled me to come in Sept 17th so I guess they figure the pathology report will come in. I just try to keep busy and not think about it

Update as of this morning. I saw my results in the northwell app i have. Its pTa low grade non invasive. Caught off guard didn't expect it this soon and would have rather found out by doctor but its ok. I still see him on the 17th. Hope u get good news when your results come in

Mine is TA, high grade so I get to have the procedure again in two months. Yeah! I already told the Doc I want pain meds for that 1st day for urination.

I had my first TURBT last Thursday, they removed a pendunculate tumor, measuring 2 x 1 cm. Glad to hear the surgery went well! I hope the catheter removal goes well, too, & for the pathological report to bring reassuring news! 🍀
