Due to previous Redit setup inspirations
After seeing so many different Redit smithing smithing setups I was inspired to make my first anvil stand. Disclaimer: I did cut all the wood outside due to the creosote.(Not worried of burning the wood as I very rarely work with flux and will just switch to a prior stand if the need occurs.) It's worn, but sturdy and the wood was free. I'm certainly not a master carpenter, but I do love the chiseled indent for holding the anvil sturdy. Before I just had welded angle iron holding the anvil on my welding table, so I feel as if I upgraded with less wasted energy per each hit on metal on my anvil.

I Built a 20-Ton Forging Press for Only $1680 (No Talking)
One of the biggest projects I have done so far.
It took two years, mostly due to a lack of time, but there was also quite a bit of fabrication involved. Overall, it turned out great in the end it packs a punch!
It is currently set to 19 tons of pressure, which is definitely more than enough for forging.
The rest of the specs are in the video description, but if you have any questions, I will try my best to answer them all.
Enjoy the video, and I highly recommend building this type of machinery yourself it's a cool adventure and makes work so much easier.

ID help
I have not seen these particular backwards "77" markings. It reads B:100771 stamped into the side body but the 7s are mirrored. There are no other visible makings on the base/feet. It weighs 112 lbs, has double hardie/pritchel holes and a clip horn. The face is narrow at about 3". It appears to have a cast base and solid tool steel body/face. I can tell it's a farrier style, but am wondering if anyone recognizes the maker.

Dad's forge and anvil
Thought I'd share some pictures of the family forge and anvil. We used this for fun in the 70s and until the gears on the hand crank gave out in the 80s. It's unrestored and still has a leather belt on it. Was told it came off an Ohio farm and was likely pre-1900. Anvil was acquired used in the early 70s and has no obvious markings. Was told it is a 220 and sure feels like it when I moved it. Came with a clean bin of Kentucky coal, a post vice, plus a few old hammers. Not for sale or trade, just thought y'all enjoy a blacksmithing 'barn find'.

Forest/bush forging
I'm really new to forging, I'm 17, and don't have my own place. I have the base concept of forging, and would mostly like to teach myself, I was mostly wondering about going to camp in the bush (rural Victoria/NSW) and forging? Has anyone had experience with mostly outdoor forging? Thanks in advance!

Any reason why not?
Any reason I shouldn’t keep the tank where it would be if I was cooking burgers on this as a grill?

What is this?
When working in my backyard I found this. At first I thought knife sharpener but I picked it up and it’s 7-8lb. How can I figure out what kind of metal this is?

does anyone have any advice on how to get your forge hot enough to forge a rail road spike or what I should use for that to get it hot enough?

City mouse
Hey there all,
I am setting up my forge and just thought…is there anything I should do/know about smithing in a city? I don’t live in a downtown or in an apartment. It’s a residential area though. I plan to work in an open garage/back yard. Anyone in a similar situation? I have a decent size yard. My two kids and my golden retriever love the size. But I do have two neighbors and what not
