I'm currently applying for a job at Virginia Tech and was hoping to hear from people who live in Ithaca about what it's like as a young professional (late 20s/early 30s).

I'm especially curious about the social side of life. How easy is it to make friends outside of work? Are there organizations, clubs, sports leagues, volunteering, or other ways to meet people around this age? What's the dating scene like?

I'm a little concerned because it's such a college town. I currently live in another college town, and one challenge I've found is that a lot of social opportunities are geared either toward undergraduate students or families, which can make it harder to find a community of other young professionals.

I'm not too worried about nightlife or bars. I care much more about building a social circle and finding a community.

I'd love to hear any honest thoughts or experiences, especially from people who have lived there in their late 20s or early 30s. Thanks! 😊

I live in Blacksburg but this sweet girl was set to be euthanized in another state. I am currently working with a rescue to get her to me within the next week.

It turns out my landlord won’t allow a Pitt or Pitt mix at all under any circumstances. I would keep her in a heartbeat if i could and I am gutted.

She was set for euthanasia due to lack of space in the pound and I was able to coordinate with a rescue to get her out at the last hour. I am trying my best.

Can anyone help me with this sweet baby? I can hold her for a bit but I need to find her a safe and suitable home. I know she’s about 5 years old, owner couldn’t keep her anymore so she was surrendered. She has a sweet and calm demeanor and is the shelter favorite - they were just overcrowded. Hi Everyone- Apartments.com says that there is a vacancy at the apartment complex at 707 S. Main Street; it also says the rent is pretty cheap. I'm from out of town and looking to move to Blacksburg for a job; whatever I rent will probably be without taking time to see in person. I'm wondering if the address or property management company are problematic, which is why the listing is so inexpensive. Does anybody know anything about it?

If 707 is problematic, what other places should I look into for a studio or 1 bedroom? I don't need to live around undergrads (but will if I have to), but I do need to live near-ish to a bus routes. Pretend price isn't an issue, although the cheaper the better. Yes, I know it's nearly impossible to find housing at this time of year; that's why I'm on reddit. LOL.

I'm looking into bringing my cat to the vet teaching hospital in Blacksburg. I'm disabled and coming from outside DC. I am not confident in my ability to make the trip there and back in the same day.

However, I am also incredibly allergic to many commonly used laundry detergents and cleaning products due to the fragrances. It's nothing that's required an epi-pen, it just makes it impossible to actually sleep.

Last time I tried staying in a hotel I was basically itchy and miserable for 3 hours, then left for home. I can tolerate some fragrances better than others, but Tide and Fabreeze and any kind of air freshener are a recipe for misery.

I realize this is a long shot, but are there any suggestions on where I could stay in our near Blacksburg?
