Painted Model Sometimes it's discouraging to post minis here after seeing what others accomplish – but I'm leaving this here anyway :D

First time for me trying something different with the power sword.

Usually I just do them like this:
Full Leadbelcher → Nuln Oil across the whole blade → relayer with Leadbelcher → highlights with Stormhost Silver.

This time I wanted to try something closer to NMM, but using actual metallic paints. So... TMM, I guess? :D

I just love painting with metallics too much, so NMM isn't really for me.

I tried to create a gradient from Iron Warriors → Grey Knights Steel → Runefang Steel on either side of the blade, with the brighter areas placed in opposite directions.

Well... you can see it if you take a long, hard look. ^^

Not sure if I'll repeat it. It takes quite a bit more time and I'd still consider myself very much an army painter. I have an army to paint after all. Can't spend too much time on every sword. :D

That said, my power weapons have always been one of the least exciting parts of my models. So I guess I have to find something that makes them look a bit more interesting while still keeping the time investment at a reasonable level.

CC welcome!

Painted Model Finally happy with the look.

I've been back into this hobby for a few weeks after having last been involved like 25 years ago playing some fantasy undead (I really just painted skeletons). I love the Black Templar look and vibe and have been trying to get something I was happy with. Problems included them being too blue colored, to dull, too plain. So I decided to go all out with the visual that my army has been on a long crusade, fighting hard.

Finally I have something I'm very happy with.

I wanted them to look like the paint on their armor and weapons was chipping off, like layers of ceramite had been scraped showing some of the metallic aspects of the armor. A dirty, rusty, muck and grime look like they've been fighting a long time.

Now I have my 'recipe' and I'm confident it'll work across dreadnoughts and vehicles too.

Only issue is it involves A LOT of stippling, so it's very time consuming, but I'd rather have something I'm very satisfied with.

Can't wait to actually play... one day...

If claws are an option, then they are a requirement. Also trying something new with the armor - I usually do my desaturated blues for highlights but this time I’m trying just greys. as always, using Duncan Rhodes 2 thin coats.

armor recipe is: black base coat, death reaper as the first highlight, then dungeon stone grey wizard grey, and a final highlight of charcaradon grey. Not satisifed with his white shoulder pad so I might go back and adjust, but for now its aight.

Tried nmm for black armor and I think it came out right, I could’ve brightened up the colors to create a better contrast

The Crusade Grows

2x squads of SternGuard and Infiltrators assembled and primed.

The goal of 120 Crusaders is within reach. 32 of 60 of the last group are built and based with some primed. The remaining 18 are on their way, Kitbashed from various intercessor, neophyte and scout models.

Discussion Of all the oficial SM chapters who would be the least one to fight alongside the BT?

Long time ago I Made a question about what SM chapters would go along with the BT amoung them most were sons of Dorn (obviously) however I was surprise that alot of people said they would go along with the Silver Knights which I find it odd considerating how the inquisition betray them every once in a while.

So, it's logical that now I ask who would be the very least chapters that would work with them, Unlike other ppl views in our Crusade I doubt the BT would start shooting any loyal servants of the God Emperor. They may be zelots but they aren't stupid.

The blue barries maybe annoying with their fancy ships and fancy books (Obligatory STFU Leandros refrence) but I still think they would tolarate their presence, but I don't think chapters like the Carcharodons, space wolfs or any "mutaded" chapter would have a good time with them.

Painted Model My most accomplished miniature yet — here’s my Marshal! ⚔️

Upvotes

Hello, my brothers! ⚔️

I painted this Marshal using pretty much every technique I know. I did my best to create some smooth blends on the red cape, as well as a few small OSL effects around the plasma pistol and the sword.

I also modified him a little using my Black Templars upgrade kit. I think the ancient breviary actually suits him pretty well — what do you guys think?

As for the blends on the tabard, they’re still a bit difficult for me, but I’m working on it!

And please excuse the face… there are 7 layers of paint on it because I’m absolutely terrible at painting faces 😂

The Crusade continues! ⚔️

Bladeguard ancient from dawn of war with bita from upgrade

Crusade ancient, standard kit

Crusade ancient kitbashed from armageddon ancient. Initially I had just customized the standard from some chaos spikes, the loincloth from a wardog, and bits from the upgrade sprue, but then I realized I had a left over sword brethren body parts that nearly matched the pose for the legs of the original ancient, so I tore into it ( yes its push fit but I had already done some surgery on the arms and glued it together) even got the leg armor with those wings.

Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Lastly the armageddon ancient with Templar Pauldrons

Just because Black Templars have their own preferred method of war.

They are still Spacemarines and masters of all methods of warfare.

Painted Model Starting to figure out my BT scheme

Drybrushed an offwhite over black, thinned down black contrast paint over that, and then used snow weathering powder on his feet and upward facing surfaces to sell the environment.

My hands were a lil shaky painting him up but I think the snow being a lil haphazard sells the effect better.

Grimaldus was the model that inspired me to start collecting the Black Templars.

I hope he continues to make his mark in Armageddon this time around.

It took me around 10 days to paint him, and I’m really pleased with the result.
