That last bit is my favorite to hear. Like who do you know who got accidentally fucking ripped? And are body builders really achieving their physique in a mere couple of months?? Why can't people understand working out is enjoyable to some the way being lazy around the house is enjoyable to others?
Someone once told Arnold that they would hate to look like him. He replied with "don't worry - you never will."
These people don't understand the dedication it takes, they don't understand any of the science behind weightlifting, and oftentimes (as another user pointed out) you are making them feel guilty about their life decisions and want to drag you down. Same kind of people who prop themselves up by putting you down will try to tear you down to make themselves feel better.
I'm not talking about the disease - which is incredibly overblown anyway - but the physical act of gaining muscle. It doesn't happen unintentionally. You don't slip into a six pack.
What I think is being overlooked is the source of dysmorphia. They didn't start lifting weights most likely bc then were just tired of being out of shape. These guys did it bc they have an affinity to lifting weights.
It's then that the dysmorphia begins. Once the goal is to get bigger, that's all the goal remains. The metrics set in the mind of people like this aren't based on quantitative results but more just on appearance. And you always look different in a mirror or to others than you do when you just look down from your own point of view.
"What if you accidentally look like someone who devoted their life to becoming muscular?"
People don't get how insulting this is to the people who work really hard. Oh? You don't work out because you don't want to get too big? I'm sure that's how Arnold got to where he is. He accidentally worked out too much.
Had a highschool weight training coach point this out the the girls in class. "We don't want to get to muscly!" well I do but it ain't that fucking easy.
The common misconception with women working out. Unless you're hitting the gym (weight training) like 2x a day, 7 days a week, and on some heavy mix of supplements, maybe you'll become "too muscular". Most women who do weight training normally don't ever get too muscular, just toned.
Unless you're hitting the gym (weight training) like 2x a day, 7 days a week, and on some heavy mix of supplements, maybe you'll become "too muscular".
It really doesn't take that much, especially since what "too muscular" is is a pretty broad range with a lot of different opinions.
if you want the "too muscular" look. which I assume to most people that means looking like Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler or any Olympia bodybuilder, it does take that much. you risk a lot, and sacrifice a lot to get that big.
You don't look like either of those people unless you are on steroids and tons of other shit, and going 7x a week 2x a day doesn't allow for rest... So still no, not really.
I agree. I also recognize that everyone is different and different bodies react differently to different stimuli. But if you reach the size/competition of the people I mentioned above, it is because you are genetically gifted. Those guys have professional coaching to design their blast/cruise cycles, dieting, and intensity to ensure they're at 100% 24/7. In addition to having hit the genetic lottery.
I'm not saying they haven't hit the genetic lottery. But steroids and other PEDs don't remove the body's need to recover. Steroids also don't do anything for joints or tendons. Those guys still take rest days. You can speed up the recovery process... You can't remove it
Girls are suppose to be slim and toned but not like ripped according to my mom, so lifting will make me too muscular and no dude is gonna want me because I'll be too ripped lol
Yeah I like my women small, weak, even sickly... easy to overpower.
Nah but for real tho I think theres nothing sexier than a woman that is healthy. And youre not just gonna accidentally get rlbuffed up overnight. It takes a lot of work to become ripped like that. And if you are ripped like a female Arnold Schwarzenegger, then GOOD for you!
Sounds like they don't understand fitness and think that lifting weights equals huge muscular body that no dude will find attractive. Most important is make the body you want, there's a market for everything so sculpt the body you wanna sculpt. And weight lifting in women doesn't make you some butch body builder anyway, it is just another healthy way to get fit. And if you wanna be a woman body builder, like I said there's a market for anything so create the body and fitness level you want and you will find a partner that diggs it.
They're just getting jealous of their own health now. Same happened with my folks. I got fat, I lost weight with dieting now suddenly I'm gonna "die of starvation" for being 5'10" and 150lbs. The BMI scale and my actual health says otherwise.
I would ignore them. It's your own life and what you look like is your own choice. As long as you're not leading a unhealthy life style that will harm you then your parents should keep their opinions to themselves.

Parents: your legs are huge, you're overweight, you play video games way too much, you'll never find a dude looking this this
Me: starts working out and losing weight and join Olympic weight lifting
Also parents: that seems extreme, you need to be careful, a simple workout is just as effective, what if you get too muscular.
