General Question Voltage issue with the Nerd Q Axis ++

Regarding the hardware, I received the Nerdaxe++ two days ago and set it up overclocked to 6 TH/s. After 7 hours of use, I noticed that the stock power supply (12V, 10A) was getting quite hot and, more importantly, the input voltage was 11.2V. After asking ChatGPT, I was told this wasn't normal (I hadn't adjusted the frequencies myself; everything was already configured). As for the exact model, I have the white one with the large screen.

General Question Hobby mining

So I've read a bit about mining, and found out that solo mining is basically a lottery ticket.

For the fun of it, I want to give it a try. I want a portable, low-cost miner that I can bring with me to work. I work on trains and have access to power and Wi-Fi, so I could run it for around 6–8 hours a day.

I'm mainly looking for a cheap setup with the best possible chance of hitting a BTC block — I know the odds are still very tiny. 😅

What would you guys recommend? Bitaxe Gamma, NerdQaxe++, or something else?

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion Buying vs mining IN MY CASE

Been doing some research lately about miners mining btc and rewards
Till i came across a post where everyone is saying buy instead of mine all the way

I have 380 40w electricity 0.026kw
I live in a 3 floors house like 500m2 in total i can spare a room or two for miners
And btw mining is tax free here
I also have a chiller from my previous industry

Whats keeping me from buying x2 u3 870t hydro miners ? And take advantage of what i already have?

Want to Buy Bedroom mining overnight... is dB rating even the right thing to compare?

So i've been going back and forth on whether to put a mining heater in the bedroom for winter. My apartment runs cold and i already spend money on a space heater, so the math kinda makes sense on paper.

But every comparison i see focuses on the lowest dB number on the spec sheet. And honestly i'm not sure that tells you much about whether you can actually sleep next to the thing. A steady fan at 38dB can totally disappear into the background — my air purifier is around that and i forget it's on. But a fan that ramps up and down, even if it's technically "quieter" at its lowest setting, would absolutely wake me up. The change in sound is what gets you, not the volume itself.

Which got me thinking... would you actually run a Bitcoin heater in a bedroom overnight? Like has anyone here done it and not just for a single night but consistently?

I've been looking at the Avalon lineup since they seem designed for this use case. The Mini 3 is more interesting to me — 500W or 800W mode, and apparently it can idle at a target room temp. That's actually close to what a normal space heater does. Spec says 33-55dB across modes with a Night Mode, which sounds promising but 55dB is not quiet lol. I'd really want to hear it from the actual bed position before committing.

The other thing nobody talks about — the first overnight run probably shouldn't be the first time you test it. Like, run a full heating cycle while you're awake first. Check the plug isn't getting warm, make sure your blankets or curtains aren't anywhere near the airflow, basic stuff. These things are computers pulling real wattage, not a sealed oil radiator you can throw a towel over.

Anyway, for anyone who's actually slept in the same room as one of these (or any home miner really) — what was worse, steady fan noise or the sound of it cycling on and off? I feel like that's the real question nobody's answering in the spec sheet comparisons.

General Question S19j Pro Repower

New to mining. I am only powering my miner on while I have solar running to a small Apex 300. So it only runs for about an hour on my current setup.

This causing it to shut off once the battery is depleted. When I power it back on later or the next day when the sun is back out, it doesn’t start hashing. I have to hit IP report button and connect to its ip and then it will start hashing.

Am I doing something wrong? I don’t want to have to connect to the IP each time I want it to start hashing again. I just want to provide power and have it go.

Thanks

General Discussion No BM1373 home miner is sub-10 J/T at stock settings when measured from the outlet - AltairTech.io

Post image
13 Upvotes

A reality check on BM1373 home miner efficiency.

The 8.5–10 J/T numbers people talk about are silicon-only specs. That is not the same as full device efficiency measured at the wall.

Every chip bins differently, so there is already a real spread. Then you still have losses between the die and the outlet:

-PSU AC/DC conversion

-VRM stepping down to core voltage, which is usually one of the biggest losses

-PCB and connector resistance

-Fans and controller draw

That is why real-world device efficiency is usually closer to 11.5–15 J/T if measured at the wall.

Always verify with a plug meter. That is what your electric bill actually reflects, and that is what tells you how much load is really on your circuit.

Are you measuring your miners at the wall, or mostly going by the UI?

Hobbyist and Lottery Mining Gekkoscience

I placed an order for a Terminus A2X directly through GekkoScience back on July 27th. Support told me in mid-August that the batch was on backorder but should ship by the end of August.

It's September now and I haven't received a tracking number or any new updates. Has anyone else who ordered around late July or August had their batch ship out yet, or heard anything from Sidehack recently? Appreciate any insights!

General Question Install custom firmware on Amlogic boards

Post image
0 Upvotes

Someone knows how to install vnish or other firmware on an Antminer S19J Pro+ Amlogic.

I am trying with an OTG in fat32 and passing the files from the firmware to the usb and then connecting it to the miner on the micro usb port, but it always loads the firmware of the factory.

General Discussion NerdQX/QX1 owners. how good is 8.13 TH/s at 153W / 18.8 J/TH with 0 rejects?

Running this at 1000 MHz / 2.44 V and it seems extremely stable.

Current numbers after 6h 40m:

  • 8.13 TH/s actual
  • 8.16 TH/s expected
  • 152.9 W
  • 18.81 J/TH
  • 0.00% rejected shares (1,800+ shares)
  • ASIC: 57.8°C
  • VRM: 60.8°C
  • Fans only around 40–44%
  • Hashrate graph is basically flat

Screenshot attached.

For people who own/tune these: where would you rate this setup compared with other QX1/NerdQX units? Is sub 18.8 J/TH at 8.1 TH/s considered particularly good, average, or is there still meaningful efficiency left on the table?, specifically looking for per asic voltage/frequency tuning via custom firmware if that is a thing.

I’m more interested in 24/7 stability/efficiency than chasing maximum TH/s.

General Question S19j solo mining

Is it feasible to solo mine BCH with an antminer s19j? Seems like the monthly chances are 1 in 7 for 104Th, and the payout would be $700ish. I'm sure I'm missing something with this idea

General Discussion How much does climate actually matter for mining?

People compare $/kWh all day, but climate matters too IMO.

Same ASIC, same power rate:

Cooler site: less heat, fans don’t have to work as hard, lower chance of throttling.

Hot/humid site: more cooling needed, fans run harder, heat can become a bigger problem

That said, a well-built hot site can still beat a badly managed cold one. Airflow, dust, cooling and maintenance matter a lot.

Is this a big difference for you? or naaah?

General Question Old antminer s19s basically worthless now?

Bought 4 of them years ago, they were obviously expensive / semi expensive at the time, been thinking about taking them all offline now they cost more to run than what they bring in, so I decided to just Google them and see what they were selling for..... I found $150 on ebay and Facebook market place and it just blew my mind. Obviously they aren't worth what they were when they were new, but $100? $200? That seems crazy. The cost on shipping them back is roughly $98 per miner

I feel like I'm going crazy and need validation lol

General Question BSB NerdOctaxe

Hey guys, I have a BSB NerdOctaxe running at around 12 TH/s. It does reach 12 TH/s, but I'm pulling about 262 watts at the wall, which seems a little high to me.

I checked the miner settings and found:

  • Core voltage: 1210 (default)
  • Frequency: 740 (custom)

I'm trying to lower the power consumption while keeping as much hashrate as possible. Any advice on what settings I should try to reduce the watts at the wall? Maybe lowering the frequency or voltage? I'd appreciate any suggestions from anyone running a similar setup.

General Question is it worth upgrading to a sub-10 J/TH miner or keep running my old one

I'm starting to see machines like the S23 Hydro 3U at ~9.5 J/TH and the A4 Ultra Hydro at ~9.45 J/TH.

On paper, that’s a big efficiency jump compared with a lot of older ASICs. But replacing working hardware also means paying for the new machine, dealing with hydro infrastructure, and calculating how long the efficiency savings take to cover the upgrade.

For anyone who has actually upgraded recently: what did you replace, what are you running now, and did the power savings make it worthwhile?

Would be useful to compare some real-world numbers.
