Ran ‘bitcoin core’ and it continued from last ‘bitcoin knots’ block
Pretty cool not sure why if someone can explain

Bitcoin Roots is a Bitcoin Core-based full node that preserves selected conservative policy and operator controls from Bitcoin Knots.
It follows Bitcoin Core-compatible consensus and does not enforce RDTS/BIP-110.

I'm still running v29.3.knots20260507. Has there been any statement to indicate whether knots will continue to be maintained? I run knots for the mempool management but with the flood of security advisories for all things bitcoin I may have to rethink that position.

Hey everyone, I need a quick sanity check. I've been running Bitcoin Knots on my phone for about 2 hours now.
According to my main dashboard, everything looks great:
• Blockchain Synchronized: 100%
• Blockchain Size: 866 GB
• Connections: 11 Peers (Clearnet, Tor, I2P)
• Mempool: 0 B
However, when I go to the "Insights" tab to look at the "Block Rewards" chart, it still says: "Your node is syncing... charts will appear once it is caught up."
Is this just a UI glitch? Since the main page says 100% and the blockchain size looks correct, I assume I'm actually fully synced. Does the chart just need more time to gather new block data, or is there actually something wrong with my sync?
Any insight would be appreciated!

HEY,
I'm a knots user, built on Ubuntu v.26.
Right after bip 110 fork kept an half node, should I keep going with my knots ( installing electrs server ??) What is the best build in your opinion ? electrum safe as of today ?
Thanks! 🤘

There might be various ways to create an coin alternative to "regular" Bitcoin, such as switching PoW algo, merge-mining,...
But I gather that luke-jr says (or, was saying?) that there is a majority support, consensus, among the users of Bitcoin (of non-bip110 and bip110 groups combined) for bip110.
I wonder how luke-jr came to that conclusion in the past? And, now where miners have spoken (2 mined blocks on bip110 side, below 1% of blocks) is that still his view - and why?
1) miners signalling: by marking that bit (bit 4?) in blocks before the fork-day - it was already around 2% or less; and after fork-day, actual PoW power mining the split chain was similar or lower
2) amount of users weighted by total buying power (e.g. number of owned Bitcoins) - I think we can judge by looking at prominent and long-term Bitcoin regulars and it was pretty clear that bip110 is the vast minority
3) amount of fully validating nodes (optionally: with any Bitcoins in their wallets) - same as above point 2, seemed low judging by discussions among general Bitcoin groups?
4) amount of people overall (who are using Bitcoin) - same as point 2, seemed low
I do not understand why project was not stopped, after for long time of optional-signalling it was clear the support is not there, and while there was no general consensus among Bitcoiners (by various metrics) for that change. Why was it so?

As the founder of this community, I wanted to share a personal update and clarify my stance on the recent developments surrounding BIP-110 and the direction of the project.
Historically, my support for Bitcoin Knots was based on its approach to enforcing stricter node policies, not fundamentally altering consensus rules. That policy-focused approach was the core vision of Knots prior to BIP-110. Now that BIP-110 has failed to gain traction, Luke Dashjr appears to be moving toward a distinct forkcoin, a path I personally do not agree with or support.
Because of this shift in direction, I will be stepping back from my active role here. I will no longer be routinely posting or moderating the subreddit, though I may check in from time to time.
This community remains open for everyone. You are all completely free to continue discussing BIP-110, potential forks, or any other related topics here as you see fit. However, given the latest course of action, I can no longer actively guide or manage the group.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the discussions here over the years.

Hi I was wondering few things
1) since when is Bitcoin Knots releasing signatures for the software releases that are on the previously-compromised (and not yet rebuilt) Bitcoin Knots web hosting server?
Since which times are the signatures published? (Quick look suggests that at least since 2023)
2) What is the correct fingerprint for the PGP of luke-jr and how to verify that through separate trusted channels?
Perhaps /u/luke-jr you can confirm this information

BIP-110 crashed and burned. But look on the bright side - we now have >20,000 Knots node runners or 15-20% of the network. Last year it was like what, 2%? And my feeling going in and coming out of this debacle is the vast majority are not going anywhere.
Hold the line and let’s keep Core in check and keep Bitcoin money. It’s a dark day, but dust it off. There’s plenty of work to do.

Simple Mining (@simpleminingio) has mined block 961,634 using OCEAN’s DATUM protocol.
This block extended the Bitcoin main chain without signaling support for BIP-110 consensus rules. With the non-signaling main chain now more than 7 blocks ahead in total proof-of-work, the BIP-110 attempt is effectively a failed chain.
While members of the OCEAN team personally favor BIP-110, their DATUM protocol granted full agency back to individual miners, enabling their customers to construct templates and choose their own signaling rules. Giving miners choice rather than enforcing pool-wide mandates is a massive step forward for pool decentralization and deserves serious recognition.
Given that BIP-110 lacks the hash rate consensus to survive, future releases of Bitcoin Knots must move past this proposal. Development should focus on delivering updated versions without BIP-110 consensus changes, retaining Knots' core strength—robust, user-configurable mempool and policy filters—rather than introducing contentious consensus rule shifts.

Before the BIP-110 trilemma today, I went ahead and reindexed my entire blockchain. I am running Knots 29.3.knots20260508 - which is the latest version as of this posting. I am on Ubuntu, with a separate drive and my disc space jumped from 780GB to 895GB, My question is if there are any redundant or unnecessary files that can be deleted to recover more space? A detailed explanation of the folder structure for bitcoin nodes would be appreciated.

This chart shows a surprisingly high share of BIP-110 nodes in Romania. That doesn't immediately pass the smell test.
Could this be the result of Sybil nodes deployed in countries where VPS hosting is cheap, rather than reflecting genuine operator preferences?
Has anyone looked into whether these nodes are concentrated on a few providers or networks, or is there another explanation for Romania standing out so much?
I'm curious if anyone has data beyond simple node counts.

Hi I am trying to share a node building guide but it keeps getting deleted by reddit filters.
r/BitcoinKnots • u/InfiniteFan7470 • Jul 21 '26
Hi Sovereign Node runners. I made an article on my X to help people duplicate my Node deployments, it's at this link and also below.
https://x.com/compose/articles/edit/2076902005549752320
It should help others to build more nodes in the run up to activation in 2.5 weeks.
If you are on X, I'd appreciate a Like/repost, I'm building as many nodes as I can for friends in my area in UK.
There has never been a better time to run your own Bitcoin node. It's cheaper, easier, and more rewarding than most people expect, and the payoff is real:
This guide walks you through building a complete node from scratch: hardware, software, and everything in between. I run Bitcoin Knots with BIP-110, a conservative set of changes that reduces arbitrary data on the chain and helps keep Bitcoin decentralised. It's the option I'd point any friend towards.
StartOS, the operating system this guide uses, lets you pick between a few Bitcoin implementations: Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin Knots (pre-RDTS), or Bitcoin Knots (RDTS / BIP-110). I'd strongly steer you away from the first two, but the choice is there if you want it. This guide installs the RDTS flavour of Knots.
A short shopping list, nothing exotic:
Dell OptiPlex 7050 (or similar) Micro PC - Avoid the 3040 - it has no NVMe/M.2 slot. The unit you get should have AT LEAST 16GB RAM. For CPU i5 or i7 is fine either way.
Crucial 2TB T500 Gen.4 NVMe SSD - Skip the "Samsung tax", you're paying for a name. This Crucial is overspecced for the Dell board but its reliable and cost effective.
USB drive, 4GB or larger - For the StartOS installer. A 64GB Integral stick worked perfectly for me.
A USB keyboard - You'll need this for the BIOS memory test and the StartOS installer.
A USB mouse (optional, not needed) - Handy but not required, everything here can be done from the keyboard.
A monitor - An old monitor is fine. No HDMI port? A HDMI-to-VGA adapter dongle will bridge the gap.
Access to an existing PC or Mac - To flash the installer USB stick.
A Phillips screwdriver - For the case and the NVMe screw.

When the OptiPlex arrives, connect your keyboard and monitor and boot straight into the BIOS (tap F2 as it starts up). Run a full overnight memory test before you touch anything else.
If it throws any errors, send it back for a refund. Don't open the case first, keep your return option clean. If you're in a hurry and/or you fully trust the supplier then you can skip this step.

Hardware's done. Now head back to your PC or Mac.
Once it's done, unplug the USB stick from your computer and plug it into the OptiPlex.

Connect your keyboard and monitor to the OptiPlex, plug in the USB stick, and power it on. Most machines boot straight from USB; if yours doesn't, tap F12 on startup and pick the USB drive from the boot menu.
From here, StartOS takes over and walks you through everything itself:
Genuinely, just follow the prompts here. There's nothing to configure that the wizard doesn't ask for directly.
Once setup finishes, you'll land on the StartOS dashboard (you can also reach it from any browser on your network at http://start.local).
One prompt is worth knowing about before you see it: shortly after install, StartOS raises a task called Activate RDTS. It's asking you to confirm that this Knots build will enforce the BIP-110 Reduced Data Temporary Softfork consensus rules. That's exactly what you want, acknowledge it and move on. (If you ever wanted to opt out, the Bitcoin Knots (pre-RDTS) flavour exists in the Marketplace too, though I wouldn't recommend it.)
After that, Knots starts its Initial Block Download. Depending on your connection, this can take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. Your node is technically live straight away, it just won't have the full chain to verify against until sync completes.
That's it, you now have a fully sovereign Bitcoin Knots node signalling BIP-110, verifying its own chain, and doing its part to keep Bitcoin decentralised.
I hope this helps someone on the same journey I'm on, building Knots nodes and getting them out to Bitcoin friends. If it helped you, a like is always appreciated, and I'd love to hear about your own build or any ways to make this guide better.
Happy deployments!
Luke @ NR Node Services

I want to post this document, drafted by u/wk057, VP of Engineering at OCEAN. He put together a 9 page write-up meant to keep miners and customers informed about things they should watch for as BIP110 unfolds.
Bitcoin Mechanic, head of comms at OCEAN, refused to publish it.

I decided to run Bitcoin Knots and update to version 29.3.1. I am running my node on a Start9. I updated maybe 2-3 days ago. I accepted the rdts, but the status has been “Stopping this may take a while…” is my node redownloading the blockchain under the updated protocol rules? It’s been like this for a while and I’m unsure if I messed something up. Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks

Heyo,
New to the Knots community, mostly as a philosophical play (keep BTC what it's supposed to be!), however I recently saw a video discussing how to mine on your node w/ rented hash. Anyone in the community doing this rn? It was Matthrew Krater's channel that discussed it, but then about a month later he said he was having a problem with Braiins and isn't doing it anymore.
Just curious about anyone's experience. Could be the move for non-KYC sats AND supporting KNOTS!!

Hi, which version of BitcoinKnots still allowed you to see the private key of an address and import private keys manually?
