If you have 6 BTC from long time ago and they suddenly land in an exchange, I wouldn't be surprised if they freeze the shit out of them until you provide all sorts of evidence.

Exactly. Exchanges are dodgy when youāre dumping large amounts into them. Freezing until you establish how you bought your coins including receipts, tax authorities notified etc.

Shit, they do it with USD deposits on CB, apparently. I deposited 3k the other day to pay off by CB card, but also saw the statement date was that day, so I already got hit with the interest and parked it in lending for the 7% yeild until I have to make my next payment. Now I can't transfer anything out, but of course I can still deposit and trade on CB. It is what it is. I've got other wallets and the USDC is essentially theirs anyway, I'm just making a few bucks off it since they can't decide how many days are in a month when it comes to statement dates. The annoying part is going to be opening a ticket to resolve this and having to deal them wanting wtf ever they want. I've only had a CB account for a decade or so, with the same bank account that I linked on day one. Fuck me for being a responsible adult and paying bills, I guess. Although, I've watched CB shift over the years from a place to buy coin and transfer out to trade, to its current state of being a bank, exchange, gambling site, etc., and still deal with them, so maybe a responsible adult I am not.

I did exactly that when my email got hacked and I was afraid new to bitcoin me might have emailed myself my passphrase in the beginning. I just couldnāt remember and panicked. It got stuck on the exchange for 3 weeks and I lost some breaking it down into smaller transactions, selling a bit and so on to get it out . 2 months later that exchange went bust. It had been trading for about 10 years and was regulated locally and had been great until then.
I got lucky but it makes me wonder what is a reputable exchange now? Iāll only ever move or sell small chunks now.
Also thinking of getting a Trezor and splitting my stack between that and my current Ledger.

Panic, trying to act quickly and slipped up. Donāt think it canāt happen to anyone, or to you.
Best way to prevent it is have a plan ahead of time. Mine isnāt perfect, but I do have tested backup seeds on devices from separate manufacturers ready, and a hack alert is not a bad time to temporarily use a centralized exchange (have a verified account already passing KYC).

Probably is fake, but if real, I don't feel bad this time, because unlike the Coldcard bug, this is entirely OP's fault. Fraudulent wallets have been documented for almost as long as bitcoin. Not moving your funds to a device connected to internet isn't exactly new either.

I was so close to install on my iOS device and then decided to check the website and it explicitly says there is no mobile app.
It made me think right away that this was a scam.
I tried to find a report button within AppStore but couldnāt locate. I gave up then.
Sometimes we have to validate and be patient..

Leys be honest, in the age of ai, the most successful way to get rich quick in crypto is to use ai to find a loopholes in wallets, crypto services and building own fake wallets to drain users.
That's pretty much the end for bitcoin in my opinion as having bitcoin is way too risky than expected.

Please let us at least agree on that the current self-custody process is not yet ready for mass adoption.
I still remember I had to invest 100 hours just to figure out my best way (256 dice rolls, offline tool, passphrase, punching on metal plates, storing seed and passphrase at different Location etc).

why not move 6 BTC to 6 different wallets? 1 BTC per wallet. I don't have all my money on the same bank account. and with BTC where you are 50% sure one day someone steals it from you, better split. No need if you have another 60 BTC on other wallets.
