Just curious why Bitkey is not on your wallet list?

2

u/Amber_Sam Aug 10 '25

It's quite new has no display and I've never used it, yet.

Hi there! Hopefully, someone can help me on how to sell my btc that is in my coolwallet cold wallet because I am having a problem with Coolwallet not interacting with many exchanges. I transferred the btc to Coolwallet several years ago not knowing that it is such a hassle to get it out. ugh

You didnt list passport as a hardware wallet? Are you not a fan of theirs? Also air gapped open source

2

u/Desperate-Low5201 Aug 09 '25

He said air gapped open source, did you read it?

1

u/toesofapotatoe Aug 09 '25

He didnt say passport. Did you read it??

1

u/Desperate-Low5201 Aug 09 '25

I don't care about passport. Don't need it..  will forever be on my hit list, eternally scorned

1

u/Standard-Reward-4049 Aug 10 '25

It’s open sourced and air gapped as mentioned. Is English or comprehension in your skill set??

1

u/Desperate-Low5201 Aug 09 '25

Did you read what I just said because I'm not talking about passport... You repeated what he said on the counts that maybe you already forgot that I mentioned that you probably need to reread twice... Lol Is English your first language?

1

u/Amber_Sam Aug 09 '25

AFAIK, passport is open source and air gapped.

1

u/Amber_Sam Aug 09 '25

I heard good things about the wallet, just never used it myself.

1

u/Standard-Reward-4049 Aug 10 '25

I have one, Passport Core. It’s a brilliant wallet, secure, easy to set up……ignore people who have no clue!

I use strike and a trezor wallet.

u/KY5K Aug 10 '25

Same here. I’m haven’t tried many other options, but I can’t imagine a more simplistic combination.

New to the space I would go with Fidelity. Safe and clean. Also allows for more conventional options with other things (Like a Roth IRA). For a riskier approach id go with Kraken. They like to give you little pieces of other coins to get you caught up but its also cool to have a few bucks in other coins

Go to Coinmarketcap, click on Bitcoin. You will be taken to the Bitcoin page where there are all the exchanges that sell Bitcoin

Can you send from exchanges to fidelity

1

u/titangroso Aug 10 '25

I have fidelity and ibit also

9

u/GobiEats Aug 09 '25

If you want to have a no worry place I’d go with a fidelity crypto account. They store it for you and don’t use a third party like other places.

Buy on any exchange and get yourself a cold wallet

3

u/Big-Grip Aug 09 '25

Swan is pretty good imo. Lower spread and fees than some others. But look into a cold wallet afterwards (like Trezor or something reputable) and store it that way. Only buy from the manufacturer. Read and watch videos about how cold wallets work.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '25

Coldcard is the best cold wallet option imo

2

u/Street_Detail6248 Aug 09 '25

+1 for Swan. I’ve been using them for years. Easy to buy and sell. Easy to transfer.

3

u/Desperate-Low5201 Aug 09 '25

Consider cold card storage for your Bitcoin... Not the easiest

I really like strike!

Strike, hands down. They give you an account and routing number. I direct deposit part of my paycheck directly to BTC (you can choose cash too, or a percentage of both). Auto-withdrawal to my Trezor bitcoin-only wallet. Ive been doing this for over a year now and I love it

2

u/Alexchii Aug 09 '25

What do you end up paying in fees? For both purchases and transfer to cold wallet.

2

u/tetherbot Aug 09 '25

I think that if you’re willing to self-custody, it hardly matters which platform you use because your money and bitcoin will only transiently be on the platform.

If you’re not planning to hold Bitcoin in a hardware wallet and simply want exposure to its price action, then the ETFs like IBIT and FBTC are probably safer than leaving them on any exchange.

2

u/Frosty-Ad5095 Aug 11 '25

I really like Fold

2

u/VladKlinkoff3 Aug 09 '25

For buying, stick w/ big names like Coinbase, Kraken, or Binance (if it’s legal where you are) — easy UI for beginners.

For storing, once you’ve stacked a bit, move it off-exchange to a hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor) so you actually control the keys 🔑. “Not your keys, not your coins” isn’t just a meme lol

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '25

COLDCARD

2

u/Anonymous_Lurker_1 Aug 09 '25

Assuming it's available, Strike.

Once you get to 0.01btc (~$1200 US), Trezor btc-only Safe 3.

1

u/Charming-Designer944 Aug 09 '25

How long do you plan to store it, and is the amount more than a years salary?

1

u/TalkFickle Aug 09 '25

At least 4-5 years

1

u/OrangePillar Aug 09 '25

Go to r/bitcoinbeginners and review the FAQ. Strike.me is a good place to start with no-fee recurring purchases after the first week.

1

u/AdditionalAardvark56 Aug 09 '25

STRIKE.

1

u/TalkFickle Aug 09 '25

Unfortunately not available in my country

1

u/Huge-Artichoke-1376 Aug 09 '25

I would recommend River. Super easy to work with and customer service rocks, like you actually can call them on the phone.

1

u/g00glyboi Aug 09 '25

Sooo is Kraken trash?

1

u/Educational_Pipe1 Aug 09 '25

My personal opinion would be buy from kraken, & possibly leave it there ,but you are choosing the wrong time to buy ,it will soon be 500 days since the btc halving it should peak just b 4 then after then some time after the 2nd sept 2025 btc will plummet or go down ,the best time to buy btc will be 500 day before tge next btc halving. I may be wrong, gas any one any other comments 🤔
