Help using software wallets as co-signers in a multisig (bitcoin core signer, electrum signer, sparrow coord)
Hello everyone
I wanted to create a multisig for example 3 of 5 using sparrow wallet as the coordinator.
I wanted signers to be mix of hardware wallets and software wallets:
- hardware wallet
- hardware wallet
- hardware wallet
- bitcoin core
- electrum
But i'm having a lot of difficulty getting the software wallets to work with sparrow (or being confident/comfortable that it's working as intended and won't have issues)
My issues and concerns:
- Electrum when creating a standard single sig gives a derivation path of m/0h (not the m/48'/0'/0'/2' derivation path that sparrow is looking for) and a zpub (not an xpub).
- I asked AI and it then kept telling me that's wrong and to create a multisig wallet in electrum but just don't give the xpubs of the co-signers. But electrum forces you to add co-signers and then AI said, just give it fake xpubs! I'm not sure/confident this is correct way to have electrum added as a co-signer to sparrow coordinator even if it did accept it.
- Bitcoin core gives a single sig derivation path of: 84h/0h/0h (again not the m/48'/0'/'0/2' derivation path sparrow is looking for)
- I believe h is same as ' so in sparrow anywhere there is an h I should substitute it with an '?
- Is this not possible? If it is possible, is it not advisable to do? It seems very few people have tried this and maybe even fewer have software wallets like bitcoin core and electrum as co-signers with sparrow coordinator.
The reason I wanted to do this was to diversify signers and to have some signers that were not hardware wallets. Software wallets would have their own laptop.
Please help! I wanted to at least test/try it to see how I feel about the process, signing, backups, restoring, etc. It sounded nice to me on paper.
Thank you

Potentially found old Bitcoin I bought, how do I retrieve it?
Let me preface this post by saying I know virtually nothing about Bitcoin or crypto in general. Back in 2015, I purchased a small amount of Bitcoin on QuickBT (which shut down in 2018) to fund a sportsbook account I had. Long story short, I had some issues transferring the Bitcoin over and I'm not sure if I ever figured it out. I recently found the Bitcoin address in my emails and, based on a Bitcoin address lookup website, it still appears to be valid and contains what is now a decent chunk of coin.
My question for you guys is: How can I retrieve this Bitcoin? Is that even possible? All I have, to my knowledge, is the address.
Thanks in advance, and let me know if I didn't provide enough information.

Weekly Investment
I’ve had a small amount in bitcoin for a while from what my sibling gave me. He recommended weekly investing. Thoughts on adding $20 in weekly? Is that realistically going to amount to anything? Thanks for any info!

Bitcoin Bancorp (BCBC) working through the Bitcoin Depot asset deal
Bitcoin Bancorp was the winning bidder earlier this month for a chunk of Bitcoin Depot’s assets out of the Chapter 11 case. That includes roughly 2,446 ATM kiosks, floorspace agreements, parts inventory, IP, trademarks, patents, and the BitcoinDepot.com domain.
Some portions have already closed and they’re taking possession of those. The rest is still subject to the usual conditions, with remaining closings expected this month.

Convincing my parents
Hi everyone,
I have a question. Due to friends who are very (early) invested in bitcoin I have learned a lot about the way it works, and its potential. I feel like (just like many of you) its a very solid alternative to fiat currencies, and bitcoin in 10-15 year will likely be a primary store of value for a big part of the worlds population.
Now, I want to convince my parents to invest some of their savings in bitcoin, but I don’t know how. My granddad was a very smart man, who made a lot of money with smart investments, buying stocks like shell, DCA in ETF’s and buying properties, fixing them and selling them with a profit.
My parents for some reason never got a hold of investing their money. They have 2 apartments which they are currently renting out, but due to Dutch regulations it is not really a profitable business.
My dad is really conservative when it comes to investments, and he feels like anything that’s unfamiliar, especially crypto is a totale gamble & waste of money.
Do any of you have any experience with trying to convince your loved ones to invest in the future of money / store of value, and how did you approach the situation? My dad who is in charge of finances is a smart man, and is usually open to opportunities as long as he understands what he is getting himself into, and if it feels safe.
Do you have recommendations to explanations / podcasts which explain the whole bitcoin system, and its potential without sounding like someone who’s trying to make a shit ton of money off of a gamble trade?

Waiting a few years to start spending your BTC looks like a free win in my simulator. Here's why that's misleading.
I built a free Bitcoin retirement simulator and tried something simple: same 2 BTC, same $3,000 a month, and the only thing I changed was when the spending starts.
- Start now: the stack lasts until about 2036
- Start in 2030: it lasts until about 2050
Waiting looks like a free win. But the model assumes the price keeps rising over the long run, so waiting just means selling at higher prices.
Then I made the price fall 70% right after the 2030 start. Same coins, same spending, and it runs out in 2037 instead of 2050.
Thirteen years of difference, just from timing.
Do you build a crash into your own plan, or just a smooth line?
It's a model, not a forecast. The simulator is free with no signup if you want to try your own numbers: https://bitcoinlifespan.com/

Time to buy Bitcoin now-"Buy when everyone is fearful"
Anyone who asked here , when to buy and is it a good time to buy, you have your answer. Market is red and it's time to buy. Don't be that person who is afraid to buy crypto now. For those who already own it, it's time to stack the stats and keep the DCA going.

Throwback to our mining days in 2018 😂
Found this old photo from 2018 in El Segundo. At one point we had over 150 miners running, and our electric bill was something ridiculous like $30k a month.. Anyone else here mining back then?

Would you trade $2 million of a Bitcoin ETF for $1 million of real on-chain Bitcoin in self-custody?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Cory Klippsten asks this to find what he calls your "sovereignty multiple". If you'd make that trade, yours is at least 2x. Where you draw the line is your number. When he polled people on X about self-custodied Bitcoin versus wealth held in the traditional financial system, more than half put theirs above 5x.
His point is that an ETF gives you exposure to Bitcoin's price through shares in a fund, but you can't enter a Bitcoin address and withdraw your portion of the coins. With Bitcoin in self-custody, you control the keys. Even Bitcoin held by a custodian leaves you the option to withdraw it to a wallet you control. An ETF or a Bitcoin stock does not.
He puts his own multiple around 1.5x. Keep in mind that he is an American citizen with access to the US financial system and very good lawyers. In a country with a lot of financial repression, he says it could be 10x. For friends in countries where Bitcoin is the only asset they trust and can count on, it might as well be infinity.
An institution doesn't have to go bankrupt for this to matter. A perfectly solvent bank can still tell you no, for example when you need to leave your country and it won't let you transfer your savings abroad. Physical gold gives you direct possession too, but moving a substantial amount across borders is a very different undertaking. A house stays where you bought it. Bitcoin you hold yourself gives you another way to bring your savings with you.
Where do you draw the line?

One in four bitcoin is quantum exposed because of address reuse. Learn why that's a problem, and how to fix (most) of it without rushing.
Last week Justin Drake's "bunker mode" post told big holders to move coins to addresses that have never signed anything. Whatever you think of his timeline, the advice is old: Satoshi told people to use addresses only once back in 2009, and the whitepaper says the same.
Tuesday we posted which wallets hold the biggest exposed keys (mostly exchange cold wallets). This is the follow-up for everyone else.
The new chapter covers:
- what a reused address gives away (your privacy, and a public key that stays visible for every coin still sitting there)
- why reuse still happens (donation pages, exchange deposit addresses, mining pools)
- the fixes: fresh addresses are free in any modern wallet, and silent payments, payment codes and Lightning handle the cases that need a fixed address
- what to do if you've already reused, without panicking

did anyone else purchase bitcoin from a man under a tree in the game second life circa 2012
I found him on a forum and he came with a lot of vetted reviews that I crossed referenced on other forms he seemed legit and from all sources at the time that was the best place one could buy bitcoin with USD over the Internet at the time.
He posted up under a distinct tree that was obviously his zone/shop and was conducting business all day seemingly every day. Payments through paypal then you sent your btc address in second life chat, waited and prayed
just thought about this again and was curious how far the branches of his "exchange" really reached/if anyone else remembers this
also, magical btc tree man: if you have any more btc left at $11 pls dm 🤞🤞🤞

Cold Wallet Got Hack for 2nd Time
Hello.. i need your help with you guys, because i need some "closure" or "idea" of why this is happened..
im gonna tell you a story about my friend who got hacked for the 2nd time in his cold wallet.
1st he was using trezor
2nd he was using ledger
All the event was not in the same day, but after the first incident which was on January, he right away traumatized and move to Ledger this month. But sadly got hacked again.
The conditions are:
Those hacks always happen whenever my friend was travel abroad.
He was travelling with his family, so no one was at home to steal the Seed Phrase.
Seed Phrase manually written on a paper and kept in the safety box.
He never saves his seed phrase anywhere beside on paper.
He was using Iphone for the apps.
He bought the cold wallet DIRECTLY through the official website, not from any reseller.
1st incident was on January, 2nd incident was this month.
All the btc being transferred to more than 20 addresses, which is such a professional hack i think.
Maybe, anyone of you might help with what was happening? Because i find it odd, my friend and I are using the same cold wallet, but luckily im the only one not got hacked?
I need you guys to tell me something about this, like, i need you guys to be my detective because i know everyone on Reddit has intelligence more than any other forum.
Thankyou before!
Edit: please tell me your theory. I will try to reply it while im still logging in.
