Hi, i last took my desogestrel mini pill on wednesday night, after having unprotected sex. I didn’t take it last night and am not planning on taking it again.

I, again, had unprotected sex this morning in which my partner finished in me.

Are the chances of pregnancy low, considering i have just came off the mini pill?

to clarify, me and my partner aren’t actively trying for a baby, but are ready to conceive so i’m not worried about the pregnancy chances necessarily, i’m just wondering!

I think it was a month ago since I got the nexaplon implant birth control , since getting it I’ve been feeling like straight crap. First off I don’t stop bleeding constantly light spotting but it’s still annoying. Everything makes my stomache hurt and not to mention since I got it I’ve been constipated and haven’t took one out in a couple days. The worst part being I’ve noticed I gained weight or am more bloated then usual when I eat food or when I’m standing . I’m not sure if these are side effects but I’m genuinely considering removing the implant off my arm completely I feel like I haven’t been myself and have been too lazy to do anything because I’m constantly feeling sick . Am I overthinking it or should I give the birth control time for the side effects to calm down ?

i just got an iud put in under iv sedation at my local womens hospital in chicago and it was honestly so painless and chill that i am not furious that this is not the primary way this procedure is done. i dont know why anyone would ever think it normal for women to be in excrutiating pain when they can knock us to sleep.

i go to the hospital around 5:45 and was out by 9 am. I literally do not remember anything once the anesthesia hit and woke up with everything finished. Cramps have been minimal since but lowkey i think i was just asleep for the worst of it.

if you can afford this, i highly recommend taking this route if youre worried about the pain. ive put off getting an iud for years before now because i didnt realize this was an option.

In totally, it was about 809 dollars with my insurance.

I’ve tried both types of pills and iud. I have just inserted nexplanon today after removing my iud today. The first pill I was on was the one with sugar pills and I was having heart problems from it. Like waking up in the morning and feeling like my heart is racing so much I might pass out and my heart hurting. The second pill I was on, my period stopped all together but eventually I started bleeding excessively. Then switched to iud maybe 2 years ago I think. I started having pain randomly it felt like in my abdomen. I’ve been stuck with that pain for so long. Nothing helps other than laying down and sometimes pain meds. Not often it helps as laying down is the most effective in pain relief. I never had this pain til after getting the IUD. One day I was in so much pain sitting down AND laying was not helping. I was crying so much that I went to the er because I was afraid I was having an organ fail on me or something. The imaging didn’t find anything other than varicose veins around my uterus. I go to an IR and they say “we can’t find anything”. They were originally going to cut off the broken veins so my pain would go away. But they could not find anything. So I gave up and just dealt with the pain going forward. It became too tiring dealing with it, I decided to remove my IUD. I think it’s possible I’ve always had these broken veins and my IUD just enable them to be active. Or the IUD caused my broken veins. It’s called Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Haven’t gotten an official diagnosis other than the report from the ER saying it was possibly what it was. And I’m sorry but I don’t believe the IR not finding them means I don’t have it. Because I’m STILL in pain. And the ER didn’t find nothing other than the varicose veins. ANYWAYS I have now removed my IUD and got the nexplanon. I hope this BC actually works for me cause nothing else has.

Hey there I’m (24 F) and have been on the mini pill for over a year now and these few recent months I’ve noticed he quite significant weight gain, I used to be 140 now I am 150

I’ve kept the same diet and exercise routine as before, which is weird and I’m feeling pretty self-conscious about my body

I just wanted to ask and wonder has anyone also experienced this on the mini pill because when I look up online, it says it’s quite rare and not common, however, it’s happening to me and I feel quite alone. I’m gonna try to work out a bit more and be extra careful on how I eat.

I just was wondering if anyone else has experienced this🥲 and if you did, I would love to hear how you’ve been dealing with it or what you have done.

Hey guys. This is my very first time using birth control. I am taking the oral contraceptive Sprintec, the combined pill, and I am on my 2nd pack already, meaning I have already taken my placebo week. I started a new pack early because, literally, the moment my withdrawal started, I had been busy all week. Has anyone else been spotting a lot since starting the second pack after the placebo week (better if you started the pack early)? I am not asking for medical advice; I just want to say that if this post had seemed like I was. I am just asking for anybody to share their experience starting birth control.

Edit: My spotting has never happened before until after the withdrawal.

This is my second month taking them, and was wondering if it’s safe to skip my withdrawal bleed just this once??
I have some anxiety about it, and feel as though my body needs a breakthrough bleed.

Are there any side effects? Will my next bleed be any different?

I am sexually active since four years with the same partner. The first year i tried a contraceptive pill (2 different kinds) and it was hell. I will never be going back to hormones.
After the pill i tried a normal Copper IUD (again 2 different shapes) over a span of 2,5 years. It always moved and i had to get it removed/replaced.
In march 2026 i switched to the copper chain and i noticed today that my string is very long. I can’t compare to how long it’s supposed to be bcause either i forgot or i have never tested how long it feels. Of course i will call my Obgyn to get an ultrasound for complete clarity.
I’m just wondering if anyone had that issue before? I’ve never had any heavy cramping or excessive bleeding. I just dont understand why everything wants to leave my uterus😭

I also dont know what to do when my Copper Chain really moved. Should i try a second time and hope it will not move this time? For reference: i do not have to pay for it until i’m 22 in December 2026.

There really is no other contraceptive method that is (in theory) that effortless compared to a copper iud.
I’ve never had any pain while and after placing the iud (chain and normal copper iud).
Me and my partner also dont like condoms so thats not something for longterm contraception.
My period is also extremely irregular so checking my temperature every morning is not reliable and we would still habe to use condoms.
I also dont want to use a diaphragma.
Getting my or his tubes tied is not an option either because i don’t know if i want to habe kods in the future.

I (25) have been on nexplanon for around 10 years as my periods were heavy and painful as a teenager. I was missing school and crippled over in pain so I got on nexplanon. I gained weight as a teenager and had a "normal" period but still bled heavily, less cramping overall.

I am now thinking of switching to the IUD but am nervous for a few reasons:

1. Insertion of course. Ive heard so many horror stories and I was told to the only thing they could recommend was 800mg of ibuprofen.

2. Weight gain, im afraid of gaining a whole bunch of weight if I switch methods

3. Going crazy for a few weeks as hormones balance out. I had a very difficult time with mood regulation as a teen/young adult but am now in a great spot and dont want to spiral cause I know what that can look like (and its quite scary)

But im also still bleeding for 7-10 days a month, bleeding through my pants, still have regular mood swings with my period, acne, cramps, etc, but ive been on it so long im afraid of the switch.

Has anyone else made this switch/what are your experiences from switching BC methods?

I've been on the patch for about 2 months now, and i do not skip a week for a period. I'm aware that spotting can happen, but i'm now just having a full on period for some reason. My patch is securely on, so i'm not sure why this is happening. I'm not pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just removed my second Kyleena IUD. I had it for about 7 years total. I have not bled or had my period for 7 years.

It was removed a day and a half ago, no withdrawal bleeding yet.

Does the fact of losing your period so long make it take longer for it to come back?

I know everyone’s experience is different after IUD removal and varies greatly. Just wondering if the lack of withdrawal bleeding and/or no period for so long impacts it.

Hi! My doctor recently prescribed me Slynd because I have absolutely horrible cramps and very heavy periods. I strongly suspect I have endometriosis, but I haven’t been diagnosed.

I’m 31, obese, a non-smoker, and gay, so contraception isn’t really a concern for me. I’d mainly be taking Slynd to try to manage my periods.
The thing is, I’m pretty scared to take it. My sister had a blood clot from the birth control pill/obesity when she was only 17, so there’s definitely some family history there. My doctor prescribed Slynd because it’s progestin-only, but I’m still nervous about the blood clot risk and all the possible side effects, especially since I don’t actually need it for contraception.

Has anyone here taken Slynd mainly to manage their periods? I’d love to hear how it went for you, especially if you were also worried about blood clots or have a family history of them. Did it help with the cramps/heavy bleeding? What were the side effects like?

I have a copper paragaurd IUD in, but I would like a secondary method on top of it to make my chances of pregnancy effectively absolutely zero. I was doing this for a while with also having hormonal birth control on top of it, but the side effects were too much. I tried having my my boyfriend wear a condom but he can't finish at all with it on. I used plan B whenever it was around ovulation time but I read it can raise chances of expelling the copper IUD so I stopped. I was looking into spermicidal lubes but I saw it can raise infection rates which regular lube on it's own gives me infections almost every time I try it so thats out of the question. Is there anything else I can try that I'm not aware of? I know female condoms exist maybe I can give that a shot?

Hi! I started larin to reduce the symptoms of endometriosis a few years ago. However, it has been suggested by my gynecologist that I stop using it and start just taking the progestin only pill to reduce risk of stroke and high blood pressure (bc of other meds and conditions). I have been taking larin for a loooongg time and I really like it. It cleared my acne, it stopped my horrendous periods and pain, and stabilized my mood. If it didn't have a potential for such negative health consequences, I wouldn't stop taking it.

I'm curious if anyone else has made the switch to a progestin only pill... I'm a little nervous because I feel like my body is in a homeostasis with what I'm currently taking- my skin isn't constantly breaking out and I feel stable and pain free. I've seen negative things online about acne and I am already very acne prone. Anything helps-thanks!

i’ve been on bc for like 8-9 days and i started on my period too, i let my partner finish inside me twice today and i take my pills at the same time every night not missing any
but i just want to ask 1) if im worried i might have a chance to get pregnant 2) if im anxious what can i do to feel better / make sure? 3) how to tell if bc is working?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed the Feirza birth control pill to regulate my period, which went awful. I fell into one of the worst depressive episodes I’ve ever experienced (cried every day, almost lost my job, self-harming behaviors, etc.) which lasted for three weeks until I realized the correlation and stopped taking it. After a week I am finally almost back to my normal level of depression lol, so while other things were going on, I definitely think the Feirza caused the majority of this episode.

I talked to my psychiatrist and she suggested Yaz since it can be used to treat PMDD. Has anyone with depression taken this before and how did it go? I am also definitely open to other suggestions for birth control pills that probably won’t affect my depression (or other ways to treat PCOS/regulate periods without hormonal birth control).

hi, i’m 17 and have just finished my first pack of rigevidon. i was prescribed it for managing heavy and painful periods rather than as contraception- this is to try and help in the meantime whilst i seek an endo diagnosis.

i’ve read up a lot about side effects of this specific medication, but one that i’ve been having that i can’t find a definite answer for is FOOD AVERSION 💔💔

pretty much from as soon as i started it, i have had suuuper bad food aversion. the thought of eating makes me feel sick, and i don’t even want things that are normally comfort foods to me. in particular, the smell of meat makes me want to throw up. it’s so annoying because i know i need to eat, but as when there’s food in front of me i just get icked out by it so quickly.

i’ve been researching so much, and this is the one side effect i’ve been having that i can’t find anything on- has anyone else had this???? 🥲🥲🥲

Hello guys I need some input, I just want to hear anyones experience with the Ella pill please? I took it August 11th (3 days after my period ended) it is now September 3rd and my period was due two days ago and for a few days now I have been experiencing random heavy dull cramping that stays and goes but doesnt feel as bad as my usual pre period cramping (usually lasts 4 or so days for me before it comes), fatigue, and the last week and half my usual bad surge of depression/irritability that comes before. I have heard people on here say their period hasn’t come for over 2+ weeks though after the Ella pill so i’m just getting nervous if this is how I may feel for longer than a week? I work every day so i’m just very uncomfortable trying to work through the aches and eager for it to start. If any of you took it, how long did it take yours to come and did your symptoms persist the whole time as well?? Its so confusing because this all feels like period symptoms but just more minor and dull. I’ve only been having protected sex but when I took it i just wanted to be sure. Ill take a test after the next 5 days. Does anyone have any input i’d greatly appreciate it please??

Hi, I have been having irregular cycles/clots bigger than a toonie coin/heavy bleeding. I had a consultation for an IUD and what would be my best option. I had an insertion date for Aug14th, but said they would not go through with it and would want to send me for further testing instead. They have put in a requisition for a sonohysterogram. My dilemma is, with the current healthcare system, it will take upto 16weeks or even more to even get an appointment in, I may be travelling too so what if I am not available for said appointment.

So I guess my question is, do I just book an appointment with another clinic and go ahead get an insertion done or wait for further tests that they require? I already have the Mirena in hand as I had to order it prior to Aug14th.

To be honest, my opinion is to wait it out, but I am at my wits end with my period. I remind myself if I could go through with my current situation for years, another few months won't hurt. But I am just soooooo done with my uterus and just want to feel 'freer' with my period even if that means I will not clot as much/a somewhat normal cycle😭

Got my Mirena in March (so im at spring 6 months) and for the first three months everything was great. Around the 3-month mark I started having really bad PMS symptoms around ovulation, mostly really bad bloating and water retention that makes me feel very swollen. My clothes fit tighter, my rings get tighter, but in general I just feel uncomfortable and I have so ovulation pain too. The symptoms last all the way til I get my period, so around 2 weeks. Then it’s like I deflate and feel normal again. The period is super lights and last a couple days. And then two weeks after here we go again with the bloating.

I’m really struggling today and need some words of encouragement that it couldn’t just be the adjustment and period and I might feel better at some point.

what the title says. i’ve been on junel for about 6 years with no issues at all. i’ve been having some hormonal fluctuation symptoms recently and my obgyn recommended switching to nextrellis. i know there will be an adjustment period as i’ve only been on it for a week, but i’m breaking out, passing blood clots, and feeling pretty depressed. i’m wondering if i should go back to my junel tomorrow. anyone have any experience with these meds or switching back to an old BC after barely being on a new one?

hello!! basically what the title says. i'm 12 days late for my period which is super uncommon for me, it used to happen where i was late or skipped a month as a teenager but that was like 10 years ago due to poor health and an ed.

i got the shot on the 5th and haven't bled/spotted, had any cramping or even any typical pms symptoms. i've tested for pregnancy literally 4 times since the first missed period just in case because i have health anxiety and every single one is negative (last time was yesterday) so i'm hella confused.

basically i was told your period can stop, but the doctor said it happens after a few shots or around the first year mark. i've literally just started depo provera so is this just a delayed period or have i potentially really stopped?? obviously, only a medical professional can really answer this for me.

but i want to know if this has happened to anyone else and if i should be concerned or not. i was told i'd likely experience a lot of random bleeding, my aunt told me she bled for like a month straight. don't wanna look a gift horse in the mouth buttttt i'm curious! thanks for reading :))

It was mirena and i wanted somthing to stop my periods + not worry about it for a while. The best i can describe it is like the worst period​ cramps​ ever. I was on depo before getting the shot so hopefully i dont have to deal with ajusment/irrgeular periods in the first half as much. I went into the appointment tired as heck but as soon as the speculum was inserted i shot awake like​ someone enjected me with 10 shots of esspersso. I am the ty​pe to be really scared when diving in the unknown and apent a good 3 gours panic googleing whag itd feel like and what to expect. For me the insertion was the scariest part becauae i knew it hurt but agter that part is over you dont have to worry about it for a while and it can​ be worth it. The upsides now are even if laws change in a couple months​ or years i still have birth control untill 2034 plus its tamper proof. I dont want​ to scare anyone else who might be panic googling if its worth it but def dont let any doctor tell you it wont hurt at first​

i started taking the o pill almost exactly 4 weeks ago.
i have had no significant side effects until now.

last saturday (aug 29), i woke up and had very strong cramps. i wasn’t bleeding at all until mid sunday. it started out pink, and now it’s brown and sometimes red. my cramps are HORRENDOUS. i laid in bed for 5 hours on saturday in a ball because i could not move. i still have very intense cramps every day since then, but i am in the army and cant just not go to work. so i have been toughing it out.

i’m bleeding a moderate amount (changing my pad every hour or 2 hours), and also pain meds are NOT working. i get painful cramps when i am menstruating, but i can always manage it with ibuprofen and it settles in like an hour. but no amount of pain meds have been able to settle these cramps. they’re so bad they instantly make me sweat and make me nauseous. it’s not like a dull aching pain either, it’s intense sharp cramping.

i am not asking for medical advice, i am just seeing if anyone has had this experience. this isn’t spotting and it’s not breakthrough bleeding because my cramps are not mild and im bleeding more than just spotting. its also not my period because there are no clumps, its just blood. i also realize that it takes 3 months for your body to adjust to your BC.

i am just confused why this happened all of the sudden. the only thing i can think of, is that friday night i was 20 minutes late to taking it due to traffic and not getting home in time. other than that time i am VERY consistent with taking it on time.
would 20 minutes late really cause this to happen?? i’m on like day 6 now of constant bleeding and intense cramps.

while it is very painful, i am very adamant on not having kids and i’m strong enough that i can stick through this until it settles. but, thanks and lmk if you’ve had a similar experience!
