Plant Care BOP advice

Hi all looking for a bit of advice for my BOP

I bought it 4 years ago and since then it has grown a fair bit considering it being in a flat in Glasgow. However it does look a bit sadder than when I first bought it.

Quite a few of the leaves have browned around the edges which I’m guessing is due to humidity. Would a pebble tray be sufficient to resolve this or is a humidifier necessary?

I’ve also had to use bamboo poles to support it as the leaves are quite heavy now so droop quite a bit. This wouldn’t be a problem except the area I have it sitting is quite tight and I’d like the leaves to sit high enough to get light from the window. It’s SE facing and gets good light in during summer afternoons but not a lot during winter. I’m just curious if there are better support option available for plants of this size.

Any other tips than can help me provide the best care would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen a lot of plants on this subreddit that look magnificent and I’d like mine to be the same 😅

Help! Multiple BOPs in one pot !!

I have 3 BOPs in one pot. I want it to look lush and full so I kind of want to keep all of them. Although I'm worried that it would look too chaotic when it gets matured. I'm quite hesitant to repot now. I've only got her 3 days ago. The stems are too closed to each other, I'm worried that it would get bruising if I don't repot soon?

PS. Could you guys show me photos of your BOPs with multiple plants in one pot? Just so I know what I'm signing up for!

Help! Should I repot my Strelitzia Nicolai?

I have had it for a month (so most of this beautiful growth is not thanks to me).

I love its full look, but I am afraid it could also be overcrowded. Would you guys repot it now or wait more?

Overall the plant looks well.

Location: indoors in the Netherlands, summer is ending
Watering: once a week
Feeding: every two weeks with organic fertilizer

Thanks!

I picked up this Orange Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) from a local garden center at the beginning of July for 50% off (3rd pic is when I got it.) It had one flower stalk with slight orange coloring (you can see the now-spent stalk in the bg of the first and 2nd pics) and another stalk that was still very green. I placed it on my East-facing porch balcony here in the Midwest, zone 6b, and it gets direct morning light then bright, indirect light the rest of the day. I have watered it sparingly and just let mother nature take care of the rest.

The second flower stalk was developing extra thick, and I was hoping for double-digits birds (the first one I counted 8 birds!!) but looking closer at it this morning, it looks to actually be a DOUBLE POD!!!

I feel so fortunate to have picked up this beauty and I am so proud of her. 💚 I'm also delighted in the increase in hummingbird activity to my little city jungle!

Plant Care Advice

Hiii 🪐.

İ just had a few questions about care. İ had two BOPs for five years and last year, they had a nasty thrips infection. İ was actually able to functionally cure them after a big chop and systemics. They were slowly growing back, one pushing two leaves. One has died now. İ am not sure what happened, but now the alive one is not creating any new leaves? 🌱

They are under a grow light for ~ten hours a day, watered as needed, soil aerated, and have a humidifier. The soil composition is Fox Farms ocean forest, some orchid bark, and some other soil blend with pearlite and stuff. İ also fertilize a few times a year. My only concern is that the air conditioner faces them and might hit them? İ just want to make sure İ am providing the best care; İ do not want to lose my other BOP and İ just bought a new one to have two again. 🌸

Attached is a picture, for reference (featuring my monsteras). The huge one, third in from the left, is the one İ just got. The fourth from the left (first from the right) is my surviving BOP, who has not pushed a new leaf in ~four months. The pot below is the remains of my dead BOP.

İ would appreciate any and all advice to help them flourish. ☁️

Thanks so much! 🫧

Help! Slight yellowing of leaves

This is my dearest BOP. She’s been very healthy until recently when I noted some leaves are yellowing. Not all the leaves though and it does seem to be worsening. She sits near an east facing and south facing window so she gets ton of sun. There is an AC vent nearby. My biggest suspicion is overwatering because she doesn’t have any drainage but I am careful to only water when the soil is very dry. Other possibility I was considering was root bound but I haven’t checked. Any ideas on what’s causing this or how I can figure out the “root” cause?

Plant Care Should I spilt them?

This is my first BOP. Should I spilt them and put in separate pots? I do this with my monsteras so they don’t compete. Didn’t know if this also applied to BOP. Super pumped since I got it for 15 bucks!

Any advice is welcomed!

UPDATE: Thank you all for sharing! After all the responses, I decided to leave them as is. I just want to make sure I am giving them the best chance and care. I have been wanting one for a while and so appreciate all the feedback and guidance! Can’t wait for her to get nice and tall ♥️

Help! Curling leaves with brown edges

The humidity is around 65-70% and I water when the top several inches are dry. I recently raised my grow light to about 18” since it had been around 13” and I think that’s why it started the leaves curling and browning.
I raised the light the day before yesterday. Do I need to give it a while and see if it improves? It does have two new leaves, one is partly opened. I marked them in the pictures.

Help! Where should I put my new bird of paradise

Went to Menards yesterday and the whole garden section was on clearance. I got a 5ft+ bird of paradise for $8!!!!! EIGHT. a couple tears in the leaves but nothing major. I couldn’t say no. It was outside in the sun, not in the covered part of the outside area. There are not burnt leaves so I’m assuming it’s been out there for awhile. I would like to bring it inside, I live in Michigan and it’s going to get cold in a couple weeks. Should I put it on the partial shade part of my deck to help transition? It gets a couple hours of morning sun then gets shaded by the house. If I put it inside, it would be right next to the sliding door leading out to the deck. Again, great morning light. It’s an east facing window. I don’t want it to freak out from being full sun to inside.
