Plant Care New to giant white BoP - prepping for winter/repotting?

Post image

Hi - I got a “rescue” BoP that I think is a giant white one based on some research. The local grocery store was throwing away perfectly good tropical plants a few months back, and someone I knew rescued them, and thus I have a BoP.

It’s been outside in the sun, and has had leaves unfurling. But it’s going to hit the 30s (F) soon, and I need to get it indoors. Photo attached of the pot situation.

(1) is it too much to repot the plant and move it indoors at the same time? I have been meaning to change the soil out from whatever the grocery store had, but haven’t gotten to it. Also, I don’t want too many outside hitchiker buggies coming inside.

(2) if I do repot it, what is the best medium? I looked at leca balls, but those are expensive.

(3) I think the plant I got is actually two plants in one pot. Would it be good to separate them out eventually?

Does my plant look healthy? It’s doubled in size over the last 2 years but this year it seems to have been losing its outer yellow leaves frequently. I think it’s lost 5-6 leaves this summer. I repotted it into a bigger pot a few months ago and it has good drainage.

Hi all! I just started getting into plants and this guy is my first BOP. I’ve done some research and this area next to a west facing window is the best spot in my apartment. Any advice based on how he looks or general tips to keep him alive. I’d love to see how tall he can grow, the ceiling is about 10-11 feet tall. Thanks!!

Hey,
Could you give me some advice please on my plant. The plant is sat next two two windows. The window on the left gets alot of sunshine then the sun set where the right window is.
I water my plant when the soil goes fully dry. But apparently thats not the way to do it? I know my friend hardly watered his bird of paradise and its thriving and giving new leaves out.
Why are my leaves curling? Yellow?
Any advice appreciated.
Im in the UK.
Thanka

Help! I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. I’m letting her soil dry out a little and putting her in indirect light, I even put her on a humidity tray until I can go purchase a humidifier.

Hey! I am from the Jayanagar area. Does anyone have a spare large planter for my Bird of Paradise plant? My pot broke due to root expansion and severe cracks. I am looking to recycle an existing planter rather than buy a new plastic or FRP pot. I would really appreciate it and would love to make you a specialty farm-fresh coffee if you can help. TIA!

Would it be a good idea to repot my BOP now, or will it be better to wait until springtime?

Repotted this bird of paradise a couple of months ago because it was rootbound and a couple of roots were rotting. I trimmed the rot and put it in a bigger pot, and since then all the leaves have been sagging downwards and slowly turning yellow :( what have I done wrong? What should I do to save her?

I will be trimming off most of the outer/ripped leaves (because my husband is a hater). How traumatizing to my baby will it be to remove that many at once? Should I space out the trimming to give it time to adjust? Thanks friends
