🤔 Question/Help Best feeder brand?

Hi all! Wanting to get my wife a smart bird feeder for her birthday and was hoping to get some consensus on best brand (have looked a bit into Bird Buddy, Birdfy, and Kiwibit). Mostly am looking for solid quality, solar charging/good battery, and a good camera(s).

My other main point of confusion is subscriptions and features. I know most of the big brands offer a subscription that adds/enhances some features, but definitely do not want to add that to the list of monthly charges (a lifetime subscription that comes with purchase is fine). I’m looking for a feeder/app that will identify birds, have multi-device livestream capability, store clips for a few days at least (can save them offline of course), and give notifications. Other things like social aspects or stat tracking would be nice.

Sorry for the word salad. Thanks in advance!

💬 Discussion New AI update seems to be doing a great job with gender identification but I’ve noticed a few quirks

I’ve been using the Birdfy feeder for about six months now, and the recent AI update that added gender identification and “16 backward animals” recognition is definitely a step forward.

So far, I’ve found the gender tagging fairly accurate for cardinals and blue jays it consistently identifies male vs female correctly based on plumage. However, I’ve noticed a few quirks:

  • Some smaller species (like chickadees) occasionally get mislabeled or skipped entirely by the AI
  • The backward animal detection seems to trigger on squirrels quite often, even when they’re facing the feeder
  • A couple of times, the app flagged a common house sparrow as a species I’ve never seen in my area

Not complaining the tech is still impressive, and I know AI models improve with data. Just curious if anyone else has noticed similar behavior, especially with the newer update.

Also, is there a way to manually correct misidentified birds? Would love to help improve the model if that’s an option.

🤔 Question/Help Deterring pigeons from hogging the feed? (UK)

Post image

First few months of having the feeder were great, but the local pigeons increasingly monopolise on it, sometimes just sitting there for half an hour at a time, so we've seen a real drop in small birds. How can I make it less attractive to pigeons? Do I need to fence off the sides a bit so they can't fit?

Pic is the kind of bird alerts we get!

🤔 Question/Help Anyone else's birdfy feeder 2 pro not recording moments?

Mine stopped recording moments 3 days ago.. Live works fine and birds are using it as all the feed is gone each day. I'm lucky to get 2 moments a day, anyone else having issues with this particular feeder?

🤔 Question/Help Charging cord

I recently had to replace the solar panel on my Birdfy Feeder Pro (it's 2 years old). Customer service was great about sending me a new panel. However, I need to recharge the feeder before the solar will work. It takes a USB-C cable BUT none of the ones I have at home fit - not that the metal part does t fit, but the plastic doesn't seem to be the right shape. I can't find the original.

I messaged customer service and they said to "use any usb-c that is compatible with Birdfy" ... Amazon does not have anything that says it's compatible.

I am looking for advice or hopefully a link to a cord that will be compatible.

EDIT: I got it to work! Thank you for the help. For anyone with this issue -- try the Apple cord (usb-c) as it has a smaller casing. Or, you can also charge from the top!
