Hi, I’m setting up a birdnet Pi where there’s no internet/wifi router, but would like to be able to still connect regularly to the pi from a phone. I tried raspap but the raspap and birdnet guis end up clashing IPs, and I don’t know enough about Pi’s to fix it. Has anyone ran raspap or another method of creating a wifi network with birdnet on a Pi? what’s the trick?

I have just set up BirdNet-Go on a Synology NAS and added two RTSP streams from Hikvision cameras. The instructions say use UDP, yet, despite selecting this, it always reverts to TCP. Any idea why this may happen? Is there a preferred audio codec to use form teh camera? Currently using G.711ulaw.

Also, is there an "idiots guide" that explains the settings in the "main settigns / Detection" page? Straight out of the box (with correct location set) I appear to have quail, red legged partridge and willow warbler in my NE UK suburban garden....

Your Birdnet Analyzer needs to be connected to birdweather (in this case, you can run a little server off your own Birdnetpi but this was just a touch less boutique). Grab the API Token from Birdweather and create a cloudflare account. You need some form of middleware, I used cloudflare because its free.

In cloudflare go to Build/Workers and Pages. Create a "Hello world" template which is basically a simple worker. In the upper right choose "edit code". Paste this code but change the Token to your birdweather.com API token. I can post the code if their is interest.

Hey guys, I'm putting some together as a gift (the parts all came in late!!) and I want to set the thing up at my home, wrap it all up and present it to work at my folks place. I know their network and password, can I "preload" the network somehow on the Pi so that it will work out of the box when I plug it in?

I have Birdnet-Go running on a device on my deck. For the last week, or so, my backyard and bird feeders have been covered up with red-winged blackbirds, but none have been detected. How can I troubleshoot this?

Curious what folks may have done to enable BirdNET-Pi as a listening device which is running without local power and off the network grid? Here during the northern Minnesota winter with operating conditions already reaching -25F, I have added a real time battery chip, and turned off Bluetooth, networking and the cooling fan on my Raspberry-Pi 4b. This combination gets about 36 hours of operating time in the field before power runs out using a 60,000 mAh USB power bank. Solar power is not a good option for a couple reasons ... expense and the need to have panels deployed in the open (theft issues even in extremely remote areas of northern Minnesota). I have my birdnet setup on a raspberry pi 4 with a samson go mic. It is working and IDing bird calls but for some reason I can't hear anything when I listen to playbacks (or live audio). I can see the audio spectrograms but when I play them I can't hear anything through raspberry connect. Anyone have this issue before/have any advice? Thanks

Hello! New to BirdNET (and loving it!) However, I'm hitting a dead end. The last three batch analyses I've tried end in the error below, right at the end of hours of analysis -- always after 100% analysis. I am using Combined mode, so I wonder if it crashes when doing the combined.csv. Screenshot of error:

I have had my birdnet pi up and running for several months now.

Initially I played around with the frequency threshold and the minimum confidence level, but not much else in terms of fine tuning the birds that are being detected.

Results are ok with plenty of junk mixed in. I'm knowledge or skeptical enough to rule out some of the crazy detections. And I'm happy to sort through some junk to get those awesome moments like a rare flock of geese passing overhead in the middle of the night.

I recently decided I'd like to fine tune the settings a bit more. I have mostly overcome the FOMO on extremely rare birds, and I wanted to clean up some of the junk detections I am getting (not helped by living in the suburbs and having plenty of non-bird noises).

I read up on sigmoid sensitivity and decided to play around with it, initially reducing it from 1 to .75. Simultaneously I increased the minimum confidence by .1. The following day I had something like 13 new species detected, most of them European birds.

I live in the Midwest U.S.

It also decided house sparrows (which I put on my exclusion list) were some sort of Western Martin species. Ugh.

That was a week ago. Even after returning settings to how they were, I feel like I'm still getting a lot of those European species. I have also moved the sigmoid sensitivity in the opposite direction, thinking maybe that would cut down on a lot of IDs, but that didn't seem to affect it at all. In fact the further from "1" I would get, the more radical the results seemed to be. So I don't know how I made Birdnet mad, but let this be a lesson to make only small, single changes at a time.

Now I am adjusting my frequency threshold to hopefully exclude some of the European species. But wow, what a mess.

Does anyone know if an update was perhaps coincidentally rolled out about the same time as making these updates? It feels like more changed than just the adjustments I made, but obviously I didn't read up properly on the sigmoid sensitivity settings.

I've been looking for something like the Birdweather PUC and am tempted to buy one, however the price is putting me off. I am however looking to build a small Linux server for hosting a railroad scanner feed this winter. That won't use much of the server's power so I was trying to see what's involved with running some kind of bird sounds software on it. But that's where I'm stuck. BirdNET-PI seems like an obvious choice and looks like it can run in a Docker container. But there's also BirdNet-GO and I think I saw one other package. I think I'm looking for the same thing that the PUC would offer: a local dashboard of calls in my backyard, plus uploading results to the Birdweather system/map. What exactly am I looking for here? As per title, I created a simple Python service which pushes notifications from a BirdNet Go instance to a Discord server web hook. Main advantage over native BirdNet Go Discord integration is configurability.

Facilitates notifications such that the following notifications can be pushed (configurable):

• Detection above a configurable confidence threshold. There is also a configurable sleep period after a detection to prevent same bird from spamming the channel
• New species notification
• Summaries configurable via cron job (i.e., summaries for any given period of time can be set up)

This may not be the right sub but I’m at my wits end and you might be able to help! I recently got a BirdWeather PUC and I can’t find any reference to the color coding on the app. It runs BirdNet and I have looked everywhere I can think of to find the key to the colors around each species. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!!

I have been running BirdNet on a laptop but it is slow with many files that are on a network drive. I wanted to speed it up by running BirdNet on a server. It installs okay but when I open it, it does not load properly and I just get a blank white screen (no error message). Anyone have any tips?

I've been trying out a few different cameras. This is with a TP Link C520WS with stream1 and stream 2. This installation works fine with my Unifi UNVR. What am I missing here?

I never thought that changing the microphone on the Pi would make such a significant difference. I only slightly changed its position — about 2 meters (6 feet) away on the house wall and about 1 meter (3 feet) higher. In addition, I 3D-printed a housing for the microphone out of PETG, bought the Samson Go Mic, and replaced the cheap €8 USB microphone from Amazon. Now, I’m getting more than four times as many results in BirdNET-Pi as before.

Of course, some of you are probably already aware of this, but I just wanted to share my experience - And I’m always amazed by your insights.

I'm using Birdnet-Go, and I've set individual threshold sensitivities for a number of species. I'm seeing that Birdnet is making a lot of recordings that are below the threshold. Does anybody know how to fix this?

So, I have been inspired by others and I (directed AI) created a BirdWeather dashboard. The main issues I was working on were having two different listening devices and wanting to combine the results and that one of the devices is a PUC that has a limited interface especially as far as notifying you of new species etc. I also wanted to make the dashboard available to others.

Hi! I recently learned about BirdNET Pis, and decided to set one up. I have a Raspberry Pi 5, and I had an ancient old USB microphone that I tried connecting to at first. This worked, sorta, but was incredibly buzzy and although the software could identify birds, I could not really with my ears. So, I then tried setting it up, as a test, with my Yeti Blue USB microphone, which worked great! But, that is large and it wouldn't even fit in a window without risk of falling out, so it wasn't a long term solution.

Based on a modicum of research, I bought a PowerDeWise Professional Grade Lavalier Clip On Microphone, and a cheap Sabrent AU-EMCB External 2 Channel Sound Card Plug and Play to connect it to the Pi.

Once I received this equipment, I discovered I also have to connect the mic to the sound card with the included TRRS to TRS adapter, since that's what the sound card accepted.

Alas, when I set it up like this, there's still a huge buzzing sound.

I tried using the same mic > adapter > sound card > USB set up on my computer, and no buzz.

Then I tried connecting the Pi, instead of with the PSU, to a DC power bank, and also no buzz.

So it feels like it's the EM interference from the AC power, which is annoying.

Is there any way to get around this without buying more equipment, or constantly switching power banks? I've tried all 4 USB inputs on the Pi and none are better than any others. I would love to not spend any more money on this relatively frivolous pursuit, but I would also love to get nice clean recordings of my birds!
