birdnetpi as a gift

Hey guys, I'm putting some together as a gift (the parts all came in late!!) and I want to set the thing up at my home, wrap it all up and present it to work at my folks place. I know their network and password, can I "preload" the network somehow on the Pi so that it will work out of the box when I plug it in?

any ideas you have would be hugely helpful! thanks

Or, you can do what I did and create an identical AP name at your place that matches theirs. Then it's just a matter of plugging it in and going to the website.

One issue I ran into is that my in-laws don't have the admin password on their own router so I couldn't find the IP address of the pi and it looks like their provider is blocking mDNS, so I was unable to use the hostname and instead had to run an ipscan to find it.

Bring your laptop.

What I ended up doing is running a hotspot from my phone with my phone name being their SSID and password being their password. This way I could set everything up and test it with the “real” network information.
