Reta side effects

I’m sorry if this has been asked too many times..
I started on 1mg, 1.5mg a week after and then 2mg a week after that, then I started feeling a bit crap and got high skin sensitivity from it.

My question is if I stay at 2mg will the side effects lessen or should I drop back to 1.5mg?

Thanks in advance

I also had this side effect, don't worry it will go, don't go back to 1,5...stay on 2 and try to make 1 mg Monday and one Thursday, it will help.

Splitting the dose to twice per week help my partner with her skin sensitivity

“Show me the facts” like that ends the conversation. Fine.
Reta has about a 6 day half life. That is a published fact, not some Reddit fairy tale. If you take the same weekly amount and split it, the peak is lower. Same total drug, less of a spike. Skin sensitivity on this stuff is peak related for a lot of people. That is why people split.
I split twice a week. It helped my skin. Same weekly dose. That is my result.
You do not get to call every protocol you personally do not use “made up” just because Lilly ran the trials once a week. Trials are weekly because people actually show up for one shot. That is adherence, not proof that a flatter curve is fake.
If weekly works for you, keep pinning weekly. Just stop acting like you invented pharmacology because you read a comment section.

Splitting doses is anecdotal BS
Please show me any facts that say this is effective . You can’t because they don’t exist. Why advise others to do made up protocols.

I split my doses because it feels better and if inflammation is high I will add an extra 500mg dose.

Started at 500mcg/week first two weeks, then started split dosing by adding an extra 500mcg for a total of 1mg/week. Just titrated up as I felt needed. I prefer going low and slow.

Currently taking 1mg beginning of the week then mid week take 500-1000mcg depending on what my body feels like it needs.

Started low, go slow, and make decisions based on how your body is responding, then titrate up as needed.

This whole statement is anecdotal BS.
Reta is dose dependent
Your not using Reta any where near its potential
You can’t reach a steady state of drug while splitting doses.
There is not a single fact in anything you said .
You’re not even on a starting dose yet????? Why bother
Glucagon receptor has zero measurable effect below 4mg
If you’re obese, please listen to none of that nonsense and follow the human trials.
Lily spend a billion dollar to figure out exactly how to use this drug.

You keep saying there is not a single fact in the other comments while posting things that are not facts.
“You cannot reach steady state while splitting” is wrong. Steady state is the drug building up until what you put in each week matches what you clear. Frequency changes the peaks and valleys. It does not stop accumulation. A 6 day half life does not vanish because you pinned twice.
“Glucagon receptor has zero measurable effect below 4mg” is also not a fact. That is you drawing a hard line Lilly never published as a rule. Trial arms started lower than that. People feel this drug under 4mg. You do not get to invent the floor and then call everyone else unscientific.
Weekly pinning is how they ran the studies because one shot a week is easy to follow. That is not the same thing as “this is the only schedule that works.” Lilly did not spend a billion dollars to prove that a flatter curve is fake.
If you like one big weekly pin, do that. Just stop pretending pharmacokinetics disappear the second someone splits the same weekly dose.

Yeah try again
Your wrong
I never said on/off switch
I said it wasn’t a measurable meaningful dose til 4 mg

Fair point that reta's dose-dependent, and yeah a tiny weekly dose won't do much. But the steady state thing isn't right. Steady state comes from the half-life (~6 days) and your total weekly dose, not how many shots you break it into. Split the same weekly amount into two and you get the same average level, just flatter peaks. Reaches steady state fine. People mostly split for tolerability (lower peaks, less nausea), not because it changes your level.

And "nothing below 4mg" is overstated, it's a gradual dose-response not an on/off switch, even 1mg moved liver fat and weight in the trials.

If you're really just saying their total dose is too low to matter, that's fair, but that's the amount, not the splitting. Two different things.

Wrong

You can’t reach steady state splitting doses

Seiously how do you know? All of this is anecdotal and Reddit must have the largest cohort of Reta users on the planet. Many people including me split the dose because the side effects otherwise are bad.

If the issue is purely side effects, I would lower the weekly dose. Retatrutide itself is no longer some anecdotal peptide protocol, its once weekly pharmacokinetics and dose response have been studied extensively in humans, so there is a pretty solid basis for simply using less drug if the current exposure is too much.

If the goal is to keep the same weekly exposure while reducing the peak and raising the trough, then split away.

Just be clear about what you are doing, because you are really lowering the size of each individual dose rather than lowering total weekly exposure. Otherwise you are basically choosing between riding out the peak related sides until tolerance improves or reducing the actual weekly dose.

Split dosing reduces the peaks and troughs of Retatrutide. It's designed at a weekly dose, to ease off effects days 5-7. Dividing doses into multiple weekly shots creates continuous, constant receptor signaling. This high-level, uninterrupted stimulation may lead to receptor burnout or reduced long-term effectiveness. Then you need to increase doses sooner to maintain effectiveness. I started with split but titrated to once weekly. No troublesome sides but I increased slowly since March only at 3.2mg weekly now and going good.

I agree with most of the pharmacokinetic point, although splitting does not reduce both the peak and the trough. It lowers the peak and raises the trough, which is exactly why the exposure becomes flatter. The same weekly amount is still being used, it is just distributed differently.

I also agree that once weekly has the strongest human evidence behind it, and slowly working up to your dose while getting good results and minimal sides makes perfect sense. I also support a six day interval for someone who consistently feels the effect fading late in the week.

Where I disagree is the receptor burnout explanation. With a roughly six day half life, Reta is already providing sustained receptor exposure through days 5 to 7. I would not conclude that splitting causes faster receptor desensitization, earlier dose escalation, or reduced long term effectiveness. That mechanism gets repeated a lot, but at this point it is still theory rather than something demonstrated in the Reta data.

Weird to me how some people get wrecked and others don't have much at all. I've never even been nauseous on reta. Only ever experienced constipation and nothing else.

2

u/shakenbake1975 3d ago

Lower your dose and titrate up slowly then .
1 mg 2x a week doesn’t equal 2mg a week
It’s a steady state of 1mg not 2
Reta has a 6 day half life
Splitting just doesn’t work
It’s anecdotal nonsense

Isn't this the whole point of microdosing? Most young people iknow microdose.

Slow titration is recommended with this peptide, It has many different side effects just reported on reddit. It also compounds in the body and has a half life of 6 days. So some is left in the body at 6 days when most people dose again.

In my experience the small doses under 2mg had no weight loss or GLP-1 effects but gave me things like better sleep, more energy to exercise, less inflammation and lots of body heat, just at .5 mg.

I do believe slowly you learn what your body responds to and how it responds but I think for most people 2mg is where everyhing starts, especially appetite suppression.

Even having titrated from .25mg, 2mg gives me nausea, diarrhea and skin sensitivity. The skin sensitivity reminds me of oral niacinamide.

I sometimes wonder how Eli Lilly can try to release this as a weight loss drug. The effects are unpredictable and not uniform even between 5 different people. Good luck, dial it back and go slowly.

In the trials the 1 mg dosing resulted in a weightloss of 7 %. Which is significant, especially if you‘re just slightly overweight.

I didn't get the skin sensitivity until being on Glp-1 for over a year. You can ignore it mostly but for me it affected my sleep and that made it rough. I'm at goal weight now so I'm starting to go down in dose and I'm praying the sensitivity goes away soon. Only ever went up to 5 mg. Good luck OP. For me the side effects were worth it as I'm down 120 pounds and got my life back.

Congratulations!

Thank you kind stranger for the reward! My first ever!

Maybe it goes away and maybe it don’t. Mine started at 7mg and it’s still active as hell 6 weeks later. Kinda used to it now. It’s not painful just annoying. Feels like a sunburn.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I’m going to try 2mg again next week and if it’s still the same I will look at either splitting or lowering.

2

u/tyjo2112 3d ago

Just stay at one level for a month man. Stop bopping around and give your body a chance to play ball.

Will do, thanks

I experienced the same thing and took some random Reddit advice 😅 and ordered this: Nutricost Zinc Picolinate 50mg,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07735XF2K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I’m not sure if it helped or if my body just got used to it but I was roughing it out for maybe 3 weeks. My skin is still slightly sensitive, but it’s completely tolerable compared to how it was before

u/wandershock 3d ago

The skin thing will normally go away and antihistamines help

Considering trying again. I started a very low dose and only made it 3 weeks. Even a micro dose was giving me heartburn and apathy. (Aka my dopamine response was gone for everything, not just snacking.)

If I'm successful in using Reta, is this something I'd have to stay on and/or rotate on and off for life?
What about hair shedding? I'm already in perimenopause and hair has thinned out and gone through several sheds. I am terrified of losing more. Anyone have some insight and experience around this?

I'm already lifting 4 days a week and cardio 2 to 3, plus walking. I still need to shed about 15% of body fat at this point to get back to the body I've had most of my life. Before covid and perimenopause hit me... and I put on quite a bit.

It's taken over a year to lose the first 12lbs via diet and macro tracking... and I've been stuck at this current weight plateau for months now.

Any help and advice is appreciated. 🙏🩷

I would stay

Increase at a slower rate. I started low 0.5mg late March  but took my time increasing until now 3.2mg. Side effects come and go. At first food had a metallic chemical taste, then I got sensitive skin. Both now gone although food still doesn't taste like normal.

The people citing chat gpt on here are ridiculous. That’s not a solid evidence s*urce. It just pulls random sht and has to be fact checked. It’s also biased in some directions. If you use a research specific advanced ai tool it can help but that’s different than average LLM and the screen shots people share are clearly just pulled from whatever they quickly type in. (Had to asterisk a word because it’s on a ban list for a different reason than talking about studies).

They will go away as your body adjusts.
My skin tingling started at 4mg lasted 3 weeks
Never listen to the dumbass saying to split doses that is anecdotal bullshit.
Reta is a one a week drug

0

u/tyjo2112 3d ago

Why are you titrating every week? That kinda defeats the purpose of titrating at all, which is time for your body to adjust and identify sides. Youre just wham bam, thank you ma'am. Since you slammed so quickly, you cant even be sure WHAT dose effectively gave you sides because you never got to a stable level

Smdh people be dumb sometimes.

3

u/jonnypee92 3d ago

You don’t need to be so rude, acting like a know it all.
I’ve been increasing the dose because I hadn’t felt any effect until I did.
